Dogs are welcome at Winnie's View. The house has spectacular views of the sea and harbour. It's a short walk down to Mevagissey where there is a good range of pubs, eateries and shops. A walk or short drive to Heligan Gardens and at St Austell, The Eden Project. We love the glorious beaches at Caerhays and Gorran Haven or Carne Beach to name but a few. Winnie's View is spacious, light and airy. It has off road parking for 2 cars and a pretty enclosed south facing garden and patio. The house has comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen and plenty of storage for all your kit, There is an open fire for cosy evenings in the cooler seasons. Oil fired central heating. Free wifi. Linen and towels are included for 2017.

About the Owner

This house belonged to Winnie, my mother in law, she had wonderful holidays here and always welcomed family and friends. We have journeyed to this house from the furthest point east in the UK to the west since 1985 when our first child was born. Since those days we have updated Winnie's View into a lovely comfortable home from home for our visitors. We hope you enjoy the views and locality as much as we have done over the years.

Wonderful relaxing time

Fantastic views, wonderful scenery and great place to stay. The ideal holiday home for a break in the mevagissy area. Everything was clean and well maintained and great that our dog was also welcome. Great selection of dog and child friendly pubs in the village with excellent food. I would recommend staying here, especially if you enjoy walking as it is very close to the beautiful coastal path walks.

Generally good, but with caveats

The house is lovely: clean, spacious, lovely views, well-equipped, and location ideal. However, on our stay the garden was nothing like the photo - it was overgrown with a large drainage repair hole in the middle and we could not use it. We were not informed about this. Also, although there is a bath, the electric shower is all but unusable. This would have been a 5 star review but for the above. If you do stay, the Portuguese restaurant in the harbour is superb and the free museum is excellent. The model railway is not worth visiting unless you are a serious model railway nerd. Porthpean and Gorran Haven both have beaches ideal for kids. In good weather, the ferry to Fowey makes a great day out.

Owner's Response: We take complaints very seriously. We promise in our literature to respond to problems and take action as soon as we are able. You promptly emailed us about the difficulties you faced on Sunday with regard to the garden and the shower after your return from Winnie's View. It is unfortunate that essential repairs to the pipework by South West Water (SWW) have been carried out during the holiday season and I think we all agree they have had a bad impact on the garden and furthermore have overrun the original timescale by 2 weeks. South West Water have agreed to reimburse us for the loss of amenity of the garden and reinstatement of the garden. This compensation will be passed onto yourself and all our customers that are affected. I confirmed this arrangement in my reply to your email on Sunday. Our gardener can now start the work of restoring the garden this week as SWW have vacated the site. I appreciate that this situation has been far from ideal, at this stage the only action I am able to take to ameliorate the situation is to pass on the compensation offered by SWW. We check and maintain our property at the beginning of the season. Any problems are addressed then in readiness for the season but sometimes appliances will develop faults. I am always indebted to our visitors when they inform us of faults and I have now been able to act on the information regarding the shower. A repair is in process and the shower will be back in working order by the end of the week. We will always try to ensure that our visitors have a pleasant stay in Winnie's View. With regards Elsa Mckenzie John sent me a further review: If you are able to post the following, please do. "The house is lovely: clean, spacious, well-equipped, excellent views, location ideal, and quiet friendly neighbours. The owners are very helpful. The Portuguese restaurant in the harbour is superb and the free museum excellent. The model railway is not worth visiting unless you are a serious model railway nerd (kids go free, but adults pay). Porthpean and Gorran Haven both have beaches ideal for kids, but every beach we found was at very least good. In fine weather, the ferry to Fowey makes a great day out (you'll need 20 pence pieces for the public toilets)."

Stunning view

The house is overlooking Megavissey and very bright thanks to the big windows. It was clean and well-maintained. You feel so relaxed in the house that you don't want to go outside!

There's a path that lead to the village in 5-10 min. We had dinner at the restaurant Number five which is very good.

We've been to Eden project which is very well-known and not too far but apparently the Lost Gardens of Heligan which are near the house is a must-do.

I'd definitively recommend this property.

WOW

Yes wow,first impression when we looked out from the harbour facing windows .

The house was immaculate when we arrived,everything was just so comfortable it felt like home.

OK downside,easy walk down to the harbour but oxygen needed for the walk back,only kidding ,I was trying to keep up with the grand kids .

Very good communication with the very caring owner.

All in all ,five stars I would recommend this property to family and friends

Perfect Rest

Can't recommend this property highly enough. The decor was good and the furniture lovely. It was also a change to have such comfortable beds in a holiday home. The house provided everything we required and more. It was a very good size for 5 adults. On arrival it was spotless which was a relief after a long drive. Mevagissey is a wonderful part of the Country and the beaches around it were excellent. So many places were dog friendly which made it possible to so much more. We discovered the Sharks Fin which is a great restaurant on the harbour. We will definitely go to this house again particularly as the owners were so helpful and friendly.

Location

From the Owner

Our children at all ages have always been very fond of Mevagissey and have many happy memories of their holidays there. Now they are nearly all grown up and some have children of their own and they still love to visit with us or with their friends. The south Cornish coast is just stunning, we are now endeavouring to walk the coast path (in chunks). The beaches are beautiful surrounded by amazing landscapes. Winnie's View can be used as a base for exploration, visits to many attractions, or as a comfortable place to return to after a long day at the beach. We have car parking for 2 cars so no car parking charges to worry about.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Train : St Austell at 6 Miles Nearest Beach : Polstreath at 1 Kilometres Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Walk across the green and down steps to Polstreath Beach. Or hop in the car (15 - 20 mins) to Caerhays (Porthluney) or Gorran Haven, these have cafe/s and loos. Both accept dogs in high season. Gorran Haven is an attractive village with a store/bakery/post office and a beach cafe. Porthluney beach is opposite Caerhays Castle which has an amazing rhododendron and camilia collection ( open early on in the year). There are beautiful coastal areas to explore further afield.

Travel:

A car is recommended. Main line train links at St Austell.

Distances:

Heligan Gardens 3 miles

The Eden Project 8 miles

Mevagissey 5 min walk downhill.

Truro 12 miles - 30 mins

Fowey 35 mins by ferry or 25 mins by car

Further Details:

Mevagissey has many shops and eateries, including restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, 2 fish and chip shops, art galleries, a museum, aquarium, fishing supplies, model railway museum, part time banking at Lloyds, Post Office.
