About Elsa Mckenzie

This house belonged to Winnie, my mother in law, she had wonderful holidays here, visiting relatives, swimming from local beaches and she always welcomed family and friends. We have been holidaying in Mevagissey for a long time, we live in Suffolk at the most easterly point in the UK and we have travelled west to Mevagissey at least 3 times a year. Alastair is a civil engineer who visited the area often as a child, Elsa teaches part time. Our 4 grown up children continue to visit the house with their children and partners. Since the early days we have continued to update and improve Winnie's View into a lovely comfortable home from home for our visitors. Our latest project has been to refit and open up the kitchen area.

Elsa Mckenzie purchased this house in 1980

Why Elsa Mckenzie chose Mevagissey

Our children at all ages have always been very fond of Mevagissey and have many happy memories of their holidays there. Now they are nearly all grown up and some have children of their own and they still love to visit with us or with their friends.

The south Cornish coast is just stunning, we are now endeavouring to walk the coast path (in chunks). The beaches are beautiful surrounded by amazing landscapes. Winnie's View can be used as a base for exploration, visits to many attractions, or as a comfortable place to return to after a long day at the beach. The house is comfortable, well equipped and practical with space for people, their kit and parking for 2 cars. We have laid out the bedrooms so that extended family can come too. It's a short walk down to the village for pubs, shops and a walk round the harbour. Fishing is still taking place in Mevagissey as you will see by the number of fishing boats in the harbour. Local fish is very fresh and can be bought from the kiosk on the inner harbour. The views from the house never cease to amaze, winter or summer.

What makes this house unique

The amazing view and the changing light on the sea is a tonic for our stress levels!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a quick note to say we had a lovely time at Winnie's View. It's a fantastic house in a perfect location and we really didn't want to come home!

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent the most amazing week at Winnie's View and we can't say enough about the property. It is so well-placed on the top of the hill with sea views from many rooms and an easy walk down into the village where we spent quite a bit of time eating and strolling around. Winnie's View is a cute place, very updated and nicely decorated with more space than we anticipated. We used the fireplace every single night which on these cold January nights was wonderful, and the convenience of the garden was a life-saver for our little puppy. We were also very pleased to have parking for our car, as we heard (and could see when we got to Mevagissey) that parking is at a premium in many places. Worth mentioning, my husband and I used the property as a ''working vacation'' which was great because the wifi connection is excellent - we didn't have a single outage and the speed was better than at our own home! - We are thrilled with our experience- the rental logistics were all managed well- and we hope to make this an annual trip! Thank you to Winnie and the team.

Lived up to all expectations

  • 5 of 5

Winnie's View is exactly as shown in the photos - a warm, comfortable home from home. It was a perfect base for our week in Cornwall - allowing us to strike out to all our preferred sites. The house is perfectly equipped for self catering and spotlessly clean. Although situated quite high above the harbour the walk down and back was easy enough - we're fit seniors - and the view was lovely. Everything worked well and Elsa has provided excellent information - both about the house and also the local area. Even though she lives far away, Elsa was always super quick to respond to any emailed enquiry. We would highly recommend Winnie's View to friends and family. Access was by key safe and completely straightforward. Our security deposit was returned very promptly.

A lovely, comfortable house with great views. We found the property very clean and supplied with everything we required. The harbour is only a 5 min walk with great pubs and places to eat. We hope to return asap!

Great Place for dog owners

  • 5 of 5

Views over the harbour and out to see are excellent from sitting room, dining room and bedroom. Very light and airy feel. Access to large open grass area a short walk down a footpath opposite the house where dogs can run free and where there is a dog bin at the north east corner where the coastal footpath runs north. Very convenient and takes the pressure off the garden. Only a three night stay but was a great base to walk from and we managed Heligan and Goran so the car stayed unused while we there.
