House in Mortehoe, Nr. Woolacombe, North Devon - Centrally Located In The Picturesque Village Of Mortehoe

Barricane House, formerly Barricane Inn, was built by my great, great grandfather Samuel Conibear in 1860. It has remained in the family ever since and is now a much loved and revisited holiday home comprising 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sitting room, dining room, kitchen, boot room and two attic 'play' rooms. It is also used by us for more than 10 weeks a year and so it has many home comforts not usually found in a rental property.

What makes this house unique

Family home in the very centre of this beautiful village, with two play rooms for kids to play in and provide some 'peace' for parents & grandparents.

The house was built by my great great grandfather and we have sympathetically modernised it whilst retaining its original character.

Over 50% of our guests stay again and we think that says a lot about our house.

Bedroom 4 has a single 3ft bed, with the option to pull out another single 3ft bed if required - this leaves about a 3 ft gap between the beds.

Outside: As well as very pretty and much admired front garden where you can sit and watch the world go by, there is also a secluded rear garden with a garden table and 8 chairs where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine or have breakfast, lunch or dinner alfresco. Utility Room: At the rear of the house there is a boot/store room with toilet. This is accessed via the utility room which contains a washing machine, iron, ironing board and sink. Outside in the rear garden there is a washing line and a rail to hose down wet suits. Cleaning/Linen service: The property is cleaned before our guests arrive and we provide bed linen, bathroom floor mats and tea towels. You need to bring your own bath and beach towels.

Excellent family home

A lovely family home in the centre of the village. Very comfortable and maintained and equipped to a high standard. Very clean . We love the character of an older property. Ideally placed for village amenities and for walking and the beach. Cream teas, pub, village store, fish and chips all within a few yards.

Lovely spacious cottage in an excellent location

A perfect family holiday with four good sized bedroom and three shower/bathrooms. Would comfortably accommodate 8 people. High standard of cleanliness throughout. Beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding. We had everything we needed...and more, including lots of 'mod cons!' Situated in centre of Mortehoe with fish & chip shop, newspaper shop, pub and take away all within walking distance. Could not fault anything!

Wonderful comfortable stay

Many thanks for a wonderful stay in Barricane House. The house was extremely comfortable and welcoming, and was equipped with everything we could want, and lots of useful things we hadn’t even thought of, but was brilliant to have. We enjoyed our family get-together in Barricane House enormously, cooking and eating good food and going for windy winter walks along the spectacular coastline.

Special interest holidays:

Great as a base for walking and surfing.

Coast/Beach:

The famous 3 mile long sandy beach at Woolacombe, with life guard patrols, is just over 1 mile away and a 15-20 minute walk if you are keen. Coombsgate or Barricane beach, a shell beach which is very popular with the locals, is about 0.8 of a mile away and a 10-15 minute walk there. Barricane beach has a very popular café serving mugs of tea, Paninis and several evenings a week - Sri Lankan curries! Take your own beach chairs and watch the sun set as you enjoy your dinner.

Travel:

Arriving by car is the easiest. However the nearest train station is Barnstaple about 30 minutes away. Train travellers tend to use Tiverton Parkway, which is on the main London-Bristol-Exeter route, and is about 1 hour away.

Distances:

Woolacoombe just over a mile away. Ilfracombe about 5 miles. Ilfracombe Tesco 6 miles. Barnstaple about 12 miles.

Further Details:

Lots of opportunities for walking, swimming, surfing, horse riding nearby.

Please initially contact the owner and we will explain the procedure. We do request a 20% deposit to confirm a booking, the balance being due 8 weeks before your holiday.

Changeover Day:
During high season the changeover day is Saturday. During the rest of the year we can be flexible on changeover days.

Notes on prices:
Prices are per week. Outside the high and mid season we accept 3 day and 4 day breaks at a reduced rate.

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
