Bungalow in Swanage, Dorset, England - Very Peaceful, 15 Minutes Walk Into Town

This is a Friday to Friday letting - the pricing shows some Saturdays due to a systems glitch , apologies for any confusion.

This is a very peaceful location, lots of wildlife and a wide variety of birds. Its a 15 minutes walk into town down quite a steep hill, but most of our guests have found it okay getting back from the beach.

Ideal for walkers and nature lovers. One recent guest identified 23 different butterflies during her stay, we encourage everyone to list the wildlife they see.

The large garden is left partly wild to encourage deer and badgers who are regular visitors to the garden, so sorry but no pets.

There's a large grassed play area near the bungalow for children, ideal for ball games. There are a number of games and toys for the garden including goal posts and swingball.

Parking for 4 cars on site.

You get the best of both worlds on holiday here, close enough to enjoy the sea and town life but you're then able to return to The Hus and enjoy the quiet, views and countryside. There's a bar b q and garden furniture, and a conservatory overlooking the garden.

It's well equipped and very comfortable, with comfortable beds and furnishings. We've spent many holidays self catering and have aimed to provide everything you could need to really enjoy your stay, including :

ample loo paper,

dishwasher tablets,

tea towels,

washing liquid and fabric conditioner,

washing up liquid, and

an extensively equipped kitchen including coffee maker, mixer and slow cooker.

There are a large number of DVDs and books for you to use during your stay, and jigsaw puzzles and board games too.

It is equipped as a home-from home and not as a holiday home.

About Sarah Winters

I spent many family holidays in Swanage throughout my childhood, and we all fell in love with the beauty of the area. The bungalow was owned by my parents who had it built 35 years ago and retired there. The land had originally been a quarry and they spent many years trying to get a garden established. We now own the Hus, and are thrilled that we have a chance to continue their dream of living there one day.

We both work in London, but hope to spend as much time as possible at the house. We love the peace and quiet and the wildlife and never tire of the views.

Why Sarah Winters chose Purbeck

The Hus is very light with one full side of windows overlooking the garden and beyond. It has a very modern feel to it, is comfortable, bright and very well equipped.

What makes this bungalow unique

The Hus provides a wonderful balance between countryside and town. It overlooks the Durlston Country Park, with the lighthouse and coastal path on your doorstep. It is a short walk or drive into town, with the beach and facilities.

There is a wide variety of wildlife which can a be seen from inside the house, its a truly beautiful spot in Swanage.

Coast/Beach:

The Hus is about a 15 minute walk into town with the main Swanage Beach. It's next to the public footpath heading to Durlston Country Park, leading to walks to the Lighthouse and the second bay. Superb views and walks, but still near enough to the town centre to be able to enjoy both. There are a number of good restaurants, pubs and shops in the town and in 2013 the beach was once again given the Blue Flag Award for cleanliness of water and beach.

Travel:

The nearest main line station is 10 miles away at Wareham.

This is in a secluded location and although only 15 minutes from town on foot it is only accessed by unmade roads.

There are two supermarkets in town, banks and a variety of shops. There is a small shop five minutes walk away which is open late in the evening.

There are many pubs which serve good food, and a number of restaurants to suit most pockets and tastes.

  • There are two toilets, one in the bathroom and one separate. There are two showers, one electric in the bathroom over the bath and one cubicle in the king-size bedroom. Both the bathroom and toilet have recently been renewed.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: There are four very comfortable beds in the Hus, plus a pump up king size mattress when needed. The pump up is also very comfortable - its 14 inches high and some visitors weren't aware it was a pump up it's so comfy. The Hus is bright and airy and overlooks the garden and country park. The public footpath to the lighthouse and coastal path runs past the entrance gate, nice and easy to locate. Outside: There is a large private garden which has never been fully tamed overlooking countryside and fields. There are steps to sit on, with cushions provided, and eight garden chairs. There is a charcoal bar b q. Utility Room: The utility room has a fridge/freezer which is solely for use by the owners, washing machine and tumble drier, and a microwave and second sink. There is a door leading out to the front of the house. The iron and ironing board are kept here. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels for each person are provided on your arrival, along with full bedding. There is no maid service, and it is cleaned only between lets. There are also old towels which can be used after muddy /wet days out available for use. Other: The dining room sits 8 people comfortably round the table, and is between the kitchen and the living room. A good quality electric pump up king size bed and base in the living room. Have tested many bed settees - this is the most comfortable we found.

Lovely bungalow in beautiful surroundings

The Hus is a lovely bungalow with loads of room. The beds are very comfortable and it is very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped with all you could need. The garden is great and the wildlife love to come and pay a visit (we never did get to see the badger, but it ate all the food). There are some terrific walks in the surrounding area and the pub is a 10 minute walk away, always a bonus, although coming home took a bit longer as it is uphill. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go back one day

Wonderful place.

This is our second time staying at the Hus and we love it. The bungalow has everything you could wish for and the visiting wildlife is an absolute treat. There is always lots to do in Swanage itself and a growing number of lovely restaurants in the vicinity to try.

Beautiful bungalow, well maintained and clean. Garden is enormous and partially wild with lots of wildlife activity. Location is above Swanage town centre.

A comfortable well equipped home from home. Idyllicly situated for exploring everything Dorset has to offer. The Jurrasic coast is beautiful. There is lots to do for all ages: walking, beaches, museums, monkeyworld, National Trust and lots more.

this is a top holiday home

THE BUNGALOW is so well equipped and there is nothing extra that you will need in the kitchen. The bedrooms are great, linen and towels of good quality are available and more than enough. The rooms are spacious, plenty of seating to relax on,and with a separate dining area that looks on to the garden. The wildlife are frequent visitors to the garden, foxes,badgers, deer,bats,along with a variety of birds. This was a return visit and it did not disappoint. Fantastic!

Booking Notes:
Please check dates and price for your chosen week and contact to confirm a booking by telephone or email. We will then send you a booking form to fill in and return with a 25% deposit to secure booking. The balance is required 8 weeks before your holiday starts. If you need to cancel we will try to re-let your week. If we can your money will be refunded. If we are unable to re-let your week, we are unable to offer a refund. Cancellation insurance recommended. £200 damage deposit. No smoking.

Our prices for have not increased since we started in 2013.
All linen and towels are included in the rental price.

Absolutely no smoking.
No pets are allowed due to the wide range of wildlife local to the house.

Changeover Day:
Change over days are on Fridays, with departure time at 10am to allow cleaning and preparation for arrival time at 4pm.

Notes on prices:
Please contact me to discuss out of season prices and for short breaks.

Damages deposit is added to full payment due, with 25% of the full payment due on booking, and the remaining 75% is due 8 weeks prior to the holiday dates.
