About the Owner

Sasha Wardell and her husband Peter Scott have lived and worked in France periodically since 1989.Both are bi-lingual.

They originally ran residential ceramic courses in a nearby property for number of years. In 2001 they bought the current property which Peter has extensively renovated and made into a comfortable family holiday home.

They were initially attracted to the region as Sasha studied in Limoges at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in the 1970's and from 2015 they will be re-establishing the specialist ceramic courses in a custom-built studio.

Beautiful, spacious, comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

From the village square this looks like a tiny cottage with a wee witches hat roof but in reality it's huge!

Lovely big modern kitchen/diner leading back through a large hall to a back bedroom which had a bigger footprint than our last rental house!

Upstairs is a beautiful lounge/dining area and the second bedroom with a gorgeous fireplace and wonderful views over the village and the large peaceful garden.

This house has been beautifully and carefully renovated, the woodwork is stunning. It's also really well provided for, just about everything you might need is here, apart from television.

The bed is really comfy, the shower is excellent and the house has a lovely ambience. Sorry for going on but I loved it and can't think of any downsides at all!

The village is nice as well. It was our first taste of village life and although my French is O level from 50 years ago everyone was very patient and friendly and we managed to get along.

A delightful house in a perfect location to explore the best of France.

Set in a small village with all that you would expect, boulangerie, bar, post office, delicatessen, chemist and a fairly good supermarket/petrol station. The house is within a few miles of two lively towns with tourist attractions, shops, restaurants, bars, markets, chateau etc. There are so many memorable historic sites within an hours drive.

The house has plenty of living space spread over two floors, all modern facilities and decorated very much in keeping with the character of the house. Very comfortable bed and the house was equipped with everything you could need - even down to spices and herbs!

Very easy living

Julliac a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a really good break in Julliac. The property was comfortable well equipped and full of character. It has been renovated sensitively and retained the french traditional feel whilst providing up to date amenities. The bedroom is beautiful, the bed comfortable, and the roof top views across the town make an ideal spot to watch the swifts and swallows in the early evening. The property has a cosy wood burning stove for cooler evenings, and it is easy to light. The garden is a fabulous oasis, large and peaceful, we were able to relax and refresh.

Julliac is off the beaten track and still very french, which was a pleasure having been to the Dordogne which now seems to have a strong british component. This whole area is a real find, we would strongly recommend both Julliac and in particular this properly. Thank you for a great stay, we do want to come back next year!

The Perfect Spring Break

  • 5 of 5

Such a beautiful house in a lovely location. The sun shone every day, so the big garden was well used. We even had a BBQ - in April! - I was even tempted to get the table tennis table out!

The house is well equipped and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to eat at the house. Comfy beds, Wi Fi and loads of room - such an interesting house.

The pool was closed at this time of year, so we went swimming at the nearby lake. Rouffiac is 20 mins away, and has all the facilities, so we were there quite a lot lazing around on the beach - we were so lucky with the weather.

Our favourite restaurant was in Genis - 5 courses at 12 euros per person, and all the wine you need? Fantastic value, and good quality.

We heard that it's possible to have a look round the chateau in Juillac (you can see it from the lounge, just over the road from the house) if the owner is in, but we didn't see him to organise a tour. Next time perhaps.

The local shops include a huite a 8 and one of the best boulangerie/patisseries in the area. The bar in the village has a nice atmosphere and a helpful owner, Gaston. We plan to come back in the summer for the Fete when the trestle tables come out, and it seems like the whole village enjoys an al fresco meal.

We only managed one short walk through the surrounding woods, down to the river, and we should have taken a picnic. Next time!

Objat is 20 mins away, with all the shops and supermarkets you need for the weekly shop. The Sunday market there was incredible. Food stalls, clothes stalls (if you enjoy the 50's look) and bars with the tables spilling over onto the roads for just sitting and looking. Great.

Brive is just 20 mins away, but we didn't manage to visit it. The centre is worth seeing, but we were enjoying being a bit rustic? Pompadour is 15 mins away, and looked lovely, with the horse jumping and lots of equine things going on, plus the famous chateau, which we didn't have time to visit. A week is just not enough time, but it will be there when we come next time!

We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys an authentic French experience.
