Cottage in Parkham, Nr. Bideford, North Devon, England - Peaceful, Private North Devon Country Estate, Dogs Welcome, Easy Walk To Thatched Village Pub

Hidden away in a tranquil valley on a small private Estate in beautiful North Devon, Hope Cottage is a cosy, thatched one bedroom cottage created from what was formerly the servants quarters when Little Bocombe House had the luxury of live-in staff. Totally self-contained, enjoy a peaceful holiday with your own log fire to relax next to after a walk through the woods and field. You also have your own secure private garden with a swing seat. This is a great place to stay for walks, dog friendly beaches, moors, bird and nature watching. Alternately you may wish to just rest, relax and unwind in this unspoiled countryside cottage. Dogs are very welcome and you also have the use of the wood and meadow for walking. There's also a private fenced garden for sole use, which has a table and dining chairs plus 2 recliners and is large enough to keep most dogs happy. Freshly renovated, Hope Cottage has all the facilities needed for a relaxing holiday and is furnished and decorated in true cottage style to achieve a relaxing ambience for your stay. Hope Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just had the pleasure of a last minute mid week break to Hope Cottage. The cottage is perfect country living with everything you could need, with a new baby I was slightly dubious about getting away but Hope Cottage could not have suited us better and the owner/housekeeper were both fantastic in keeping in touch and making sure we had everything we could need. We were sad to leave and would love to visit again. Perfectly place to discover North Devon and further afield into Cornwall and with a cream tea waiting on arrival how can I not give this cottage 10/10!! :-) thank you Hope Cottage!

Owner's Response: We're very glad you had a good rest, sometimes we forget how tiring a new baby can be so a break with no-one to disturb you while you enjoy your new arrival is just what's needed. We do try hard to get the balance right of being available and supportive without being intrusive. We hope you enjoy the rest of the year and have a great first Christmas with your baby. We do enjoy seeing new mums and dads with babies and of course we can't miss out families with new dogs.

Coast/Beach:

Area of amazing beauty and variety, if you wish to leave the peace and tranquillity of Hope Cottage you are spoilt for choice with many areas to explore.UKs largest sand dunes at Braunton Burrows have been designated an AONB awarded UNESCO biosphere status.

The SW coast path crosses beaches, heath and moorland delighting, walkers, bird watchers dog walkers alike. INSTOW – 6 miles. Dog walking all year round. Lovely sandy beach with small sand dunes at North end. Esplanade walk with shops

Distances:

Thatched village pub with home cooked food less than 1 mile, Atlantic Village Retail park is 7 miles away off the A39. GREAT TORRINGTON friendly village is an ancient settlement with possibly Saxon origins. The site of an important 1664 Civil War battle, it’s built on top of an inland hill the area remains unspoiled and offers great views across Devon and the Torridge valley. Many shops, pubs, cafes and a pannier market to explore. Combine with a visit to RHS Rosemoor.

Further Details:

We fully recommend a visit to Marwood Hill Gardens. This is a 20 acre private garden run by volunteers only 4 miles from Barnstaple. The lush streamside planting, 4 lakes and mature trees have beautiful vistas, especially from the tea rooms. Allow several hours to enjoy this special place and time to visit the plant nursery.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a beautifully renovated old cottage suitable for 2 people maximum looking for a quiet, relaxing break. The decor is typical of a traditional Devon cottage. The stairs are off the main room leading from a small door and are the small steps for the period of this nearly 300 year old house. Please note we do not think this is suitable for anyone taller than 6 feet (1.85M) Old quaint cottages tend to have low ceilings and doorways & Hope Cottage certainly is old, has charm and charecter. Outside: Fully fenced, private garden area with table and 2 chairs, designed for peaceful outside dining next to the cottage but still handy for the kitchen. Private gravelled parking is shared with the adjacent Gardeners Cottage, with an allocated space. Utility Room: Tiled hallway has area for coats, shoes, wet / muddy gear, dogs leads etc Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, towels, dog bed and blankets are all included and changed weekly or after each short break. A basket of dry, seasoned logs is also provided from our own wood. A £20 fee is for any dogs to cover additional cleaning.
