Perfect for four guests in two twin or two super king bedrooms.

Ederline Estate has dog friendly, self catering holiday cottages. Immersed in 13,000 acres of glorious West Highland scenery, tucked away in the Argyll hills a short distance from the coast. The Self Catering Holiday Cottages are owned and run by Angus, Willa and family. For guests staying on the estate we have kayaks, bikes, rowing boats to hire, with fishing, walking and much, much more, you would be hard pressed to fit everything into a week in this stunning part of Argyll.

We have five self-catering traditional holiday cottages. The cottages sleep 2-10 guests the properties are all over 200 years old and have been carefully and fully modernised to offer a real home from home.

Finchairn Farmhouse - Sleeps 10

The farm house is situated in a stunning, private, elevated position looking over Loch Awe, completely on its own. It has a square enclosed court yard to the back of the property and a large garden to the front which is bordered by a dry stone wall with far reaching views across the loch. There are five large double bedrooms and four bathrooms, two en-suite. All have Aqualisa walk in showers and two also have baths. Two sitting rooms. Well equipped kitchen, seperate dining room. A downstairs WC. A utility room with large upright freezer, washing machine and separate tumble drier. A perfect spacious family home.

Finchairn Cottage - Sleeps 6

A stunning remote location looking down on Loch Awe. The cottage has two twin rooms and one double bedroom.

Bathroom with walk in shower, basin, washing machine/tumble dryer and WC.

Large sitting room/dining room is complete with flat screen TV/DVD and docking station. A large original fireplace with a supply of free logs which need to be split with axe provided.

The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and all the equipment you would need.

Garden furniture and mobile barbecue.

Vodaphone mobiles work in the cottage. But no wifi.

Red deer can be seen grazing from the cottage in the evenings.

South Lodge - Sleeps 2

South Lodge is a self-catering holiday cottage situated on its own, nestled into the side of the wood. The cottage is in an elevated position looking over to the main estate house and the loch and hills beyond.This charming cottage has its own garden laid mostly to lawn, an open shed which is ideal for storing the bikes or roof box. A large log shed and room for off road parking.

You enter the cottage up three steps to the porch and then onto the landing. On the left the door leads into the large bedroom and the right into the sitting room which leads onto the bathroom and kitchen.

South lodge has everything you will need and is 'Home from Home'.

The School House - Sleeps 4

This was the dwelling for the school mistressl for the village of Ford to the mid 70s. It has a perfect layout for four guests with two large super-king or twin rooms. It has a large bathroom with walk in shower and bath. The kitchen has all you will need to cater for your holiday with dining area. Off the kitchen is a small utility with down stairs loo and washing machine. The sitting room has a TV, docking station, DVD, wifi and large open fire. Each room has hand made curtains and elegantly decorated. All you will need to created 'Home from Home'.

Clachandubh Cottage - Sleeps 6

Although Clachandubh started life in the 1800's as three shepherds dwellings, it is now our second largest cottage sleeping 6 guests. This traditional stone cottage is situated by an old stone bridge over the Clachandubh Burn and it has its own enclosed garden, open shed, ample parking spaces and well stocked log shed.

It has two twin bedrooms and one twin/super-king bedroom. Sleeping six.

Large family bathroom with walk in shower, basin and WC. Also an en-suite to the large twin/super-king room with walk in shower, bath, basin and WC.

Large sitting room/dining area with flat screen TV/DVD, WiFi, docking station and large open fireplace.

All logs are provided free of charge but need to be split with the axe provided.

Fully equipped new fitted kitchen with fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and all equipment you would need.

New outside boiler room/drying room with washing maching/tumble dryer and sink.

This self-catering holiday cottage is fantastically remote set completely on its own in an elevated position. The access to the cottage is up a mile farm track and you enter the property through a gate. The garden is fenced with a log shed to the back of the property and a parking area beside the cottage for two cars. You enter into a large conservatory to the front with wonderful views of the open hill and Loch Awe. The double glass doors lead into the original cottage with a large twin off to the left and the sitting room off to the right, all the walls on the ground floor have the original wooden slats. Off the sitting room is a corridor leading to the bathroom with walk in Mira shower, wash hand basin, washing machine/tumble dryer and loo. Off the corridor is also the well equipped kitchen with all you need. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a twin and a double.

I was born in Lochgilphead and have spent a large part of my childhood in Argyll. I am married to Angus and have three children. We took over the estate from my father in 2003. It is a fantastic way of life which we love to share with our guests and help them to see the best of the area. There is too much to do and see in a week but once you have been you will want to return!

We have spent two wonderful vacations at Ederline Estate where Finchairn (pronounced "finni-hearn") is located--one at Christmas and one in July/August. This is an exceptional cabin located hillside overlooking Loch Awe. The colour of the landscape and loch change with the daylight and weather. It is like living in a painting. This is for you if you want peaceful solitude and to get away from it all.

We had a wonderful time in the cottage. It was extremely peaceful and secluded. The cottage itself was fine, especially the conservatory. We had everything we needed and the fireplace was great! The area was also amazing, we saw some ancient castles and prehistoric sites. The information provided on the area was also very complete. All in all a wonderful week.

Best Possible Place for Escape!

This trip was our third stay at Ederline Estate, and all three have included time at Finchairn. When extended family have come with us, we've also stayed at The South Lodge and at Clachandubh Cottage. While all of the guest houses have been excellent (well maintained, nicely stocked kitchens, good shower facilities), Finchairn is our very favorite. Nothing can beat the view of Loch Awe from the sun porch, the quiet of the hillside, and the incredible nature walks you can take from here. The light changes the way the loch looks all day long--truly a magical spot for relaxing and disconnecting from the stresses of life. Finchairn's three bedrooms provide plenty of room for 6 people, and the recently remodeled bathroom is very good. The kitchen is well designed, and the fireplace (including generous wood supply!) makes for a perfect spot in the evenings. We can count on everything being clean and in nice shape when we arrive. On the estate, you have miles of nature walking. Make sure to go up into the hills to see all the lochs! Plenty of activities are within easy reach from Ederline, including groceries, restaurants, and shops in Lochgilphead just a short drive away, and don't miss the wonderful history in and surrounding Kilmartin. For a day trip, Oban is within easy reach and is reached by a beautiful winding drive. Willa and Angus are exceptional hosts and have made us feel so welcome and at-home each time we've stayed. We would highly recommend Ederline in general and Finchairn in particular to friends and relatives.

Lovely Finchairn

We have stayed on the Ederline Estate 3 times now, twice in finchairn cottage. This is a lovely remote cottage with a wonderfully equipped kitchen and cosy open fire. The views are stunning what ever the weather, and. Much time is spent in the conservatory staring out the window.

The kids love the wide open spaces, the near by beaches and scrambling up hills.

In fact they would spend a whole day at carsaig bay, crabbing , in the dinghy and jumping off the jetty when the tide comes in.

Then back to the cosy cottage where they can get comfy and warm and fed.

The cairnbaan hotel has a lovely restaurant also Kilmartin Hotel,

Great fish and chips in Oban or Lochgilphead .

This is a wonderful place to holiday and an amazing place to explore. The coast line on this west side is stunning and there's easy access to the Isles via Oban ferries.

We will return to finchairn as often as possible.

Idyllic place to stay in every respect

This was the 4th year returning for a holiday at Finchairn and this year for 3 weeks! Bliss!

This is a very cosy cottage which has been well adapted and equipped. The conservatory has a wonderful view of Loch Awe with the ever changing colours and shadows. On cooler evenings there is a hearth and fire with logs provided. There are many walks on the Estate and surrounding countryside much appreciated by us and our dog!

Anyone interested in history, there is much to see; from castles to the wonderful Kilmartin museum just up the road who also do great food. The local food is delicious to either cook at the cottage or there is a good choice of local eating places not far away.

The owners are so pleasant and helpful with any queries you may have. There is also a good visitor's book in the cottage with good tips and it is clear people return, like us, frequently! I've already booked for 2016.

Just go, you'll love it!

A delightful cottage in a outstanding location.

A delightful cottage with everything you need, and more ,for a very comfortable stay in an exceptional location. The cottage was clean, the beds extremely comfortable and the views all around were spectacular. The owners were very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.Our days were filled with outdoor adventures; rock jumping, canoeing,fishing and walking. Our nights were by the open fire followed by some of the best night's sleep I have ever had!

Idyllic setting

The cottage is lovely and the location is amazing. We were given some brilliant info on where to take our boat and allowed to launch from the field onto the loch, thank you.

The only criticism I had about the cottage, which I felt let it down quite badly was that the mattresses on the beds were old and thin and lumpy. And the sofas and chairs in the sitting room are old, the springs in them were saggy and they are not at all comfortable.

Fantastic morning clay pigeon shooting lesson and a fab meal out at the Crinnan Hotel, both recommended by you, thank you.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review. I am sorry you found the beds lumpy and the sofa uncomfortable? The double bed is from John Lewis and was put in last year. The two twin rooms I have re looked at and cannot see the problem but will be asking all our guests this week and if they feel there is a problem I will have to replace them. Many apologies for this. The sofa and chairs we have all sat on and I cannot see where it is uncomfortable. But again we will be asking this weeks guests and next if they find it a problem and if so they will have to be replaced. Thanks again for your comments, as we do not sleep or live there you need to be aware of any problems.

I took over the estate from my father seven years ago and count myself so lucky to have the opportunity to care for the cottages and farming business in the most stunning part of the world. A perfect retreat to get away from the busy life that most of us lead. Ederline is a tonic to be consumed regardless of season.

Special interest holidays:

We hire out bikes, kayaks and rowing boats. There is fishing available on loch Ederline and 22 hill lochs for wild brown trout. As guests on the estate you have the freedom to explore this 13,000 acre estate far and wide.



Argyll has a stunning coast line, longer than the coast of France! The coast is only a short drive away. Crinan Ferry is about 20 minute drive. We are ideally placed for the ferries to the Islands as we are half way between Oban, which has day trips to Mull,Iona,Staffa and Kennacraig which has day trips to Islay and Jura. Both ports are about a 45 minute drive. There are also day trips to Arran and Gigha, these ports are about an hour away.


Glasgow Airport is about 2 hour drive. 110 miles away.

Hire car would be essential to get to the farm house.

Buses go regularly from Glasgow to Lochgilphead, which is 20 minutes away.

Oban is our nearest railway station which is 45 minute drive, 27 miles.


Kilmartin -5 miles. Museum dedicated to the pre-history of Argyll, village and coffee shop and good pub.

Lochgilphead -12 miles with golf course, squash and tennis courts, all you need for food shopping and tackle shop for fishing.

Ardfern -10 miles. Galley of Lorne, Crafty Kitchens with good food, village shop and chandlery at the marina. Also excellent riding school.

Craobh-Haven 13 miles Excellent sailing school, hires out boats and kayaks.

Inveraray-37 miles. Castle and Jail to explore

Further Details:

Argyll has a stunning coastline to explore which is only fifteen minutes away and stretches over 2800 miles.

The Hebridean Islands are easy to reach by regular ferries, from Oban, Kennacraig, Tayinloon and Claonaig, which are all under an hours drive.

The mainland and the Islands have some fantastic beaches, which will keep the children happy for hours. Private boat trips can be arranged locally to include mackeral fishing or going to visit the third largest whirlpool in the world, the Correvreckyn!!

Inveraray Castle and Jail are open to the public. They used the castle for the BBC series Downton Abbey for their holiday in Scotland!

Sunday papers are sold in Kilmartin village shop. Lochgilphead which is 20 minutes drive has a large super market, petrol station and good local shops, fishmonger,butcher,deli, coffee shops and restaurants. We also have a excellent smoker y in the village of Ford producing delicious smoked fish.

There are an abundance of good restaurants in easy motoring distance at Crinan, Cairnbaan and Ardfern which cater for all tastes with some excellent sea food.

The local area is steeped in history with many archaeological sites with the greatest concentration found in the Kilmartin area. There is an excellent museum in the village of Kilmartin dedicated to the pre- history of Argyll.

We can offer fishing on the estate for wild brown trout in over 22 hill lochs and course fishing on Loch Ederline. We have boats for hire on some of the lochs. We also have kayaks and bikes to hire.

Ederline has an abundance of wildlife with ospreys nesting on Loch Ederline every spring, Golden Eagles up on the hills. The Ospreys were filmed last year for Ray Mears 'Wild Britain' series and the wild beavers which are only a short drive away at Knapdale.

Ederline and the surrounding area has alot to offer and you will be hard pushed to see it all in a week!

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottage has electric 'Total Control' heating. This boosts the water and the heating three times a day at off peak rates. The logs are included in the rent but have to be split with the axe provided. There is a mobile barbecue with garden furniture and also a washing line to the rear of the property. The only neighbours are the animals and the red deer which graze regularly close to the property.
