About this property

La Grange Dordogne - Traditional Barn, PRIVATE HEATED POOL in a Peaceful Hamlet

'La Grange Dordogne' is an old stone barn situated in a small, quiet hamlet and offers a private heated pool, comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests in 2 double bedrooms and a twin.

The house is a 5 minute drive from the pretty bastide town of Beaumont and 25 minutes from Bergerac airport. Beaumont is one of many beautiful local towns with its restaurants and markets, and is in easy reach of the heart of the Dordogne river and chateaux.

There are plenty of night markets, music evenings, and fantastic restaurants all within a few minutes drive. The popular Dordogne river towns such a Beynac and Roque de Gageac are about 40 minutes drive away with its wonderful chateaux such as Le Milande and Castlenaud. After exploring you can come back to the peace and tranquillity of the house and what it has to offer.

A comprehensive (but tidy!) information pack about the house and the area is available in the house to help you decide what you want to do with your time there.

The large, comfortable sitting room has a log burner, Wi-Fi, Samsung Smart TV with Sky Freeview and French Orange TV, DVD player, DVDs, board games and a dining area.

The smart new kitchen is very well equipped and has all the necessary requirements including a new cooker, dishwasher and microwave. Items like washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, cling film, foil and dishwasher tablets are all provided. The farmhouse-style table provides seating for 6 next to the double doors leading out onto the garden, veranda and heated pool.
There is also a separate utility room with an extra fridge freezer and washing machine.

The main bedroom is situated on the ground floor with a beautiful French style double bed with access to the front of the house through multi-opening doors.
This bedroom has its own ensuite - there is a separate toilet along the corridor.
A hairdryer is provided.

Please note, we only supply bath/guest towels but NOT pool towels.

The double bedroom upstairs has a comfortable brass bed with skylights and black out blinds. The twin bedroom also upstairs (also with blackout blinds) shares a shower room with toilet. These rooms have fans and a hairdryer.

Outside space includes a medium size garden with a large covered veranda, perfect for lunches or evening barbecues (charcoal BBQ and utensils provided). There are far reaching, beautiful views of the countryside from the garden and pool area.

Access to the private heated pool is gained through the garden and four wide steps. There is a fence surrounding the pool area, a child proof locking gate and pool alarm. The newly lined pool has steps at the shallow end and has been recently fitted with a heating system (2021) to provide the perfect temperature. The pool is open from Mid-May to Mid-October. It measures 10m x 5m so plenty of room to do lengths. It has its own comfortable seating area with sofas and plenty of umbrellas for shade and is a perfect spot for sundowners.

The Barn - located between the house and garage - please mind your head going through the low doorway. There is a table tennis/ping-pong table and a range of bikes (and helmets) you can use along with a few bike tools and puimp if needed. Please look after the table and bikes so the next guests can enjoy them.

Fantastic house
We’ve just returned from a great holiday at La Grange. The house is full of character and was a brilliant base for us to explore the region. It has everything you need, and the pool is beautiful. The bedrooms were lovely (as is the rest of the house) - the stairs to the first floor are quirky, but we didn’t have any problems with them. Sarah was absolutely brilliant throughout the process, plenty of comms to advise on things to do and she was very accommodating. We used some local walking trails for mountain biking which was great, and Monpazier is worth a visit. The Monday night at the market place in Beaumont was very nice, and we also took a trip to do some kayaking on the Dordogne. Local supermarket is 6 mins away in the car. We had a fantastic holiday and loved the property and the local area. Highly recommended.

Disappointing!
Positives…kitchen well equipped and functional, covered porch area outside for dining. Sitting room comfortable but very dark. Negatives…pool had not been cleaned full of debris, outside full of weeds, outside furniture tatty and dirty, just very unkempt. Main bedroom was large but bed was a small French double not large as stated, my husband is 6ft3 and couldn’t stretch his legs out. The upstairs can not be called further bedrooms and bathroom as only access was ladder type steps and not suitable for adults, especially with poor mobility conditions, The property was very damp and the smell was over whelming, infact there was a thunderstorm one night and the rain flooded the kitchen and hallway through the French doors even though a neighbour brought around old sheets/ towels for us to put by the door it still flooded through. Outside area accessibility was a nightmare with the steps, this obviously can not be helped but should be mentioned in the advertisement so for anyone with mobility conditions can avoid, if we had known this in advance we wouldn’t have booked this property, I fell down the steps going into the kitchen and cut my elbow. We did contact the owner within a few days and she did address some of the issues, arranged the pool to be cleaned after 6 days of being there and her neighbour weeded the outside area, but this should have been done before we arrived.. we had booked the house for 14 days but left after 6 days.no compensation was offered.

Sarah's Pretty House
The house had everything we could possibly need for a week's holiday. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. Outside was a dream! The pool was an amazing bonus, as the heat wave had really set in when we were there. We ate every meal on the pretty, shady terrace and spent many nice evenings by the pool. It was ideally situated to explore the region's bastide towns and markets, but it was a pleasure to come home to the peaceful hamlet and a lovely swim at the end of a hot day.

We bought ’La Grange’ in March 2013 after spending several holidays with our 2 young daughters in the Dordogne area. It’s a cliché but we totally fell in love with the beauty of the region, its amazing food and wine, the river, the chateaux with their stunning views, night markets and generally the slower pace of life.
The house for us is a gem – we hope it has a homely feel for those who visit and anyone who goes there wants for nothing and enjoys its tranquil and relaxing ambience.

Why they chose this property

Great location for exploring the local area, is about 40 minutes drive to the more popular Dordogne river towns such as Beynac and Roque de Gageac, then you can return to the peaceful environment at the house.
There are many night markets, music nights and local restaurants all within easy reach.
So much to do for all ages.
The house has a friendly feel with love and attention paid to its different areas and decor.

What makes this property unique

Large decking area with outdoor furniture at the side of the heated pool and plenty of large umbrellas for shade in the day and a wonderful space for sundowners!
Newly installed pool heating system (2021) to keep the pool at just the right temperature for you whatever the time of year.
