About the Owner

La Grange is our family's second home. We bought it (unseen) as an 'agricultural barn' from a Sunday Times advertisement in 1998. We designed, planned and transformed the rustic barn and bare scrub into the beautiful home and garden you see now. It was a real labour of love, with many journeys from the UK with the car filled with trees, plants, furniture, light fittings and even the stone fountain!

The amazing views, tranquil surroundings and fabulous family space make it all worth while.

One of the best

We have been holidaying in French gites for twenty years, and this is one of the very best in which we have stayed. Fabulous outside areas; the gardens, and for sunbathing and eating and the views are spectacular. The pool is very clean and really is as big as it looks in the photographs. The only traffic is the occasional farm vehicle, so it is very private and tranquil. Inside, the house is extremely comfortable and benefits from UK television to keep the kids entertained when the sun is high. Nearby, within biking range, in Tournon, there is a fantastic butcher (to make use of the BBQ), a good boulangerie and a basic, but handy, grocery store as well as several good restaurants. We found lots of quiet biking routes along the valley, as well as up the sides! An hour away by car takes you to the beautiful Cahors or the bustling Agen. The house is in a wonderful position and the best recommendation I can give, is that we have already booked for next year!

Fantastic holiday

We had a fantastic fortnight at La Grange - would have been happy with longer. The barn is beautifully converted, and the accommodation of the highest quality. A true home from home. We love this area, having stayed further North in the past. Tournon is a quaint little town, we also enjoyed Lauzerte, and a day in Cahors. Best of all was returning to spend the afternoon and evening by the pool. Thoroughly recommended.

La Grange Bladanel

We had a really wonderful week at La Grange with our 2 young girls and my parents.We didn't want for anything, brilliantly equipped kitchen, lovely rooms and bathrooms. The garden (with lovely pool) is beautiful (so many different areas to explore and sit in) and such breathtaking views. The surrounding area is peaceful with plenty of nearby towns and markets to explore. We can't wait to visit again!

Idyllic!

The barn is stunning! The family living space is huge, clean and comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with literally everything one could need.

The view from the garden and pool is amazing and we could happily have spent the week without even leaving the property. (There is a huge hypermarket nearby and an excellent local bakery for breakfast pastries and fresh bread a few minutes drive away.)

When we did manage to drag the children away from the pool, we visited a number of beautiful little bastide villages, all within a 30 minute drive and with lovely restaurants. Bergerac is well worth a visit and the drive from the barn to Bergerac is littered with wineries!

Communication with the owners has been prompt and helpful.

In short, a really fantastic place to stay, so relaxing and with something for the whole family.....we would definitely return!

We suggest a car is essential during your stay. Car hire is available at all airports.

Distances:

Tournon d'Agenais is less than 5 mins away, and has a small convenience store, a bakery, a pharmacy, a bank, a creperie, a cafe and restaurants. There are many picturesque Bastide villages and towns nearby, all set on hill-tops, including Penne D'Agenais, 15 mins away, with a spectacular domed church.

Further Details:

Larger supermarkets can be found in Fumel, 15 mins away which has a huge L'Eclerc, with a reasonably priced petrol station. Montaigu de Quercy is 10 mins away, and has a medium-sized supermarket, plus a great market on Saturday mornings.

Larger towns, both pretty and good for shopping, are Villeneuve sur Lot (20-30 mins) and Agen (40 mins).

  • Notes on accommodation: The pool is cleaned twice a week, and the grassed areas are mown weekly. This is carried by our property agents, who live a locally, and can be contacted during your stay. La Grange has WiFi and a telephone set up to accept all incoming calls and to make local calls. Outside: Private 5 x 10m private swimming pool, surrounded by decking and lavender bed. Tiled terrace, with vine-covered pergola offering respite from the sun. Two patio tables, a picnic bench and two sun parasols. Charcoal barbecue. French windows along two sides of the barn, making for easy access -- perfect for parents keeping a close eye from the inside-out or visa versa! Landscaped gardens, including a seat under a rose-covered pergola, taking in the stunning views. Moorish courtyard garden with fountain, viewing platform and seating, which is bathed in evening sunshine and perfect for enjoying a G&T! Laundry: Large fridge/freezer, washing machine, sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and bath towels included. No maid service. Cleaning takes place between guests visits. We simply ask you to leave La Grange as you find it. Additional cleaning can be provided on request, at additional cost. Other: Dining area forms part of kitchen with table seating 8. French windows lead to pool side and another set to a side terrace. Huge remote-controlled roof-lights (with auto-closing feature if it rains) flood the area with light. (High-chair included)
