Townhouse in Praia da Luz, Western Algarve, Portugal - Peaceful Location But Close To All Amenities

This charming Portuguese town house is situated just a few metres away from the sea shore. It offers lovely sea views and is in the most peaceful part of Luz where the sound of the breaking waves will lull you to sleep! It is only a 5 minute stroll to shops, restaurants and bars. The property has been extensively renovated over the last 3 years to offer: a fully fitted and equipped kitchen with marble worktops; an extended first floor balcony to maximise the sea views and the bathroom has been completely refurbished to include a walk in shower. The ground floor open plan kitchen/lounge has patio windows which open on to the lower terrace. A retractable awning provides welcome shade to escape the midday sun in the height of the summer and it is an ideal place for outdoor dining/barbecuing. There are two bedrooms: one is air-conditioned with a single bed and a single ‘mezzanine’ bed. The master bedroom has a new king size bed (april 2015) and opens on to the large balcony overlooking the sea.

The lounge has satellite television and Wi-Fi access to the internet.

Perfect seaside retreat

Writing a review later than I anticipated but since staying at the property in July 2016 it's never been far from our thoughts. During our trip to Portugal we visited quite a few places but none felt so instantly like home than the house by the sea.

Despite being only a few minutes walk from town it's position, and view, makes it feel very private and 'away from it all'.

Stuart and Sue made us feel extremely welcome, helping to arrange rental cars and extending our check-out time to accommodate family who visited during our stay.

While at the property, if I ever had a question i could be sure i'd find the answer in their booklet.

We live in Asia so it's a long journey to the Algarve, but i'd return time and again if we were any closer.

Return visit to delightful house beside the sea

This was our second visit to Casa do Monte and we fully enjoyed our stay as much as the first time last year. The property was originally a fishermans cottage and is situated at the top of the slipway and so convenient for the beach and early morning swims. A short walk over the rocks will take you to bars , restaurants and all other amenities although the lane way behind the house will also lead you there. The property is exactly as described in the listing, clean and very well maintained with everything needed. There is an excellent book of information provided for guests which is very helpful for finding your way round more distant attractions and beaches. If you do encounter problems, which we did not, there are full details of who to contact. There are beautiful cliff walks starting outside the door, quiet sandy beaches and numerous bars and restaurants on the doorstep. We have recommended this property to friends and relatives for its character, simple relaxation and most of all its close proximity to the sea with the constant sound of the waves. Hope to be there again soon!

Owner's Response: Welcome back Janet! Yes the house is in a fabulous location with so much on the doorstep that you really do not need a car. If you want to venture further afield the local bus service and trains are all easily accessible. So many of our guests have commented on the high standard of cleanliness and for that we must thank our manager who employs a regular team of maids. They do a brilliant job and let us know if anything needs replacing or requires maintenance. In the short time we have been renting out our house we have had several returning guests. We must be doing something right!

Very tired internally

Interior of property did not live up to the photos on the website. We found it very tired and scruffy inside. The access was through a rather smelly alley. Would not recommend.

Owner's Response: It is difficult to respond to this brief and generalised negative comment which is in stark contrast to all other feedback we have received (including the guests who stayed either side of this one). All of the photographs on the website have been taken in the last two years and represent the interior exactly as it is. We regularly visit our home and have never experienced a "smelly alley" nor has any other guest ever reported such. Prior to departure we provide a list of phone numbers and email addresses to contact if there are any concerns, problems or queries. We have a manager based in Luz who can, and does, respond immediately. Unfortunately these guests chose to remain silent until their return to the UK, leaving us somewhat surprised and saddened by their comments.

Just returned from 12 nights staying in this fine accommodation. Spotlessly clean, home from home, so comfortable. Beautiful beach, restaurants & pubs all close by. Loved listening to the waves from our bedroom. Highly recommend this beautiful home. Would definitely stay here again! Kevin & Kate.

Lovely property, home from home with sun

We have just got back from this lovely property and missing it already. Good location, everything you need very short walk. The house itself had everything you need for your stay. Must mention the very comfy bed and great shower. The sound of the waves just set you off for a good nights sleep. Had a nice bottle of fizz which was a lovely touch, just what you need after travelling all day when you arrive. The restaurants we tried were very good especially look for an amazing tasting steak. I would definitely overall give a 10 plus for this holiday.

Great little place to stay.

Really enjoyed our stay at "Casa do Monte", the house is very comfortable and well located for the beach and village. Everything you need is provided and the house was really clean and well presented. The only negative point was the lack of air conditioning, the only unit in the property didn't work.

We have made every effort to ensure that our guests have every thing they should need for a pleasant stay and that cleanliness is maintained for each and every guest. As you know we provided you with contact details for ourselves and our local manager who is based in Luz and is contactable 24 hours/7 days a week. She is there to deal with any issues or queries during your stay and once contacted will deal with the issue immediately. Within the house there is also a welcome pack with manuals and instructions for all of the appliances including the air conditioning. We do not expect our guests to suffer in silence which is why we provide the mobile number for the manager. If the instruction manual doesn't make sense then a call to the manager would have resulted in a visit to show you how to operate the system. We are pleased to report that the air conditioning is fully functioning

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach (Praia Prainha) is 2 minutes walk. The main Praia da Luz beach is less than a 10 minute walk. It is in a sheltered cove and is ideal for families as the surf is gentle. There are a number of water sports available here. There are numerous beautiful beaches within a short drive, some are excellent for surfing and windsurfing

Travel:

Faro Airport is less than an hour's drive. The manager will be happy to arrange car hire/transfer (summer months can be busy so early car hire booking is advisable) There is a bus service and taxi rank within 5 minutes of the property. There is a railway station in Lagos

Distances:

Praia da Luz centre is a 5 minute walk. Lagos is the nearest town and is a 10 minute drive.

Further Details:

There are numerous restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. There are two main supermarkets: Spar and Baptista both within a 5 minute walk. A bank with ATM is 5 minutes away opposite the pharmacy.

Outside: There are 2 large terraces both with patio furniture. BBQ on lower terrace and lockable gate. There are also 2 sun loungers Utility Room: Cleaning equipment, iron, ironing board Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen & Towels included (excluding beach towels). These are changed weekly and the property is cleaned on a weekly basis. If you require an additional clean we will be happy to provide a quotation.
