About the property

Cottage in Mells, Nr. Frome, Somerset, England - On The Edge Of A Beautiful Village With Many Listed Buildings, Amazing Walks And Great Cycle Routes

This cottage in the heart of the English countryside has heaps of character - oak and flagstone floors, oak beams, inglenook stone fireplace, an Aga, and stone mullion windows with oak window seats. Owned by designers and recently restored to a very high standard. Sleeps 6 (two double bedrooms and one twin). Two bathrooms, one with roll topped bath and one with shower. Pretty garden. The award winning friendly village shop and cafe is very near, where you can buy a large range of locally sourced and organic food. There is also a stunning walled garden with lovely café and the excellent Talbot Inn pub (recently named by The Times as the best pub in Britain). Half hour from Bath, Stonehenge and Glastonbury. One hour to the coast; 2-3 hours from London.

About Nicole Townsin

Nicole and her husband, Paul are both designers. They bought this house two years ago and have had it restored and redecorated to create a beautiful country retreat.

Why Nicole Townsin chose Mendip (Glastonbury)

Mells is the perfect english village, with a friendly well stocked village shop and a great pub. The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful and there are so many things to see and do.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is on the edge of the village, so is very peaceful with lovely country walks on the doorstep, but also benefits from being a very short walk to the shop and pub. The pub has recently been refurbished and is very popular with locals as well as visitors to the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A truly wonderful property in a gorgeous location. We booked this due to its location, pretty much in the middle of Stone Henge, Bath & Glastonbury. The house is beautifully refurbished including an aga for cooking on.

The decor & furnishing is simplistic whilst maintaining a sense of luxury. Wifi was good and there was sky tv if you wished. We lit the wood burning fire one evening which was a treat .

The village shop and cafe is opposite, serving lovely food and FANTASTIC coffee.

If you are looking for a beautiful getaway you absolutely won't be disappointed. This really is a rare find and at a price per night that a room in a b&b would cost for 2 people in Bath city!

Don't hesitate, book! ?We've had a really great time at this cottage! It is beautiful from the outside, stunningly well decorated on the inside, its located in the centre of an old English village and there is a fantastic pub+restaurant down the road. What more do you want?

Beautiful home in Mells

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Mells, really lovely home to stay in. Nicole was a great host, very responsive. If you visit during a wet period, there is a lovely paved walk along Collier route (great flat cycling for children). We enjoyed the Talbot Inn, would highly recommend eating in the Coach House (book early) & the village shop (which is well stocked with local goods) does excellent Gluten Free bread & Chocolate brownies.Thank you for lovely stay

comfortable and characterful

  • 4 of 5

A delightful property which has been beautifully restored. Right in the middle of Mells, close to the village shop, café, pub and other attractions and yet very private and quiet. The lounge with woodburner made for very cosy evenings in. The kitchen lacked a few useful items (toaster, microwave) but the Aga was quite simple to use if you took the time to read the instructions. Bedrooms were very comfortable, but perhaps could have done with a bit more furniture (a chair or two would have helped). The bathroom and shower room were well fitted out. The garden was absolutely delightful but rather small, but there were so many walks on our doorstep and so many things to see just in Mells that we didn't really mind.

A highly recommended property in a charming Somerset village.

Perfect house in a gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

We had a marvellous time in this cottage in Mells. It is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable with everything you could need in the kitchen and living areas.

Nicole was a great host - very responsive and helpful and we loved the walks around the area and especially the food and ambience at the local Talbot Inn. We would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to other people and hope to return there again! Sally and Jeremy

Lovely house in a beautiful village

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Holycroft. The house has been furnished very well and was very comfortable for the six of us. Although well off the road with ample parking, there is a village store and P.O. close by which is very handy. We visited the Secret Garden in the village and the children loved the hand made pizzas. Close by for Wells and Bath, we would definitely stay at Holycroft again in fact it's one of the nicest houses we have ever stayed in, apart from our own!

Perfect weekend in the country

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely lovely weekend in this gorgeous cottage, I would highly recommend it. After doing quite a lot of research into places to stay in the area, this was by far the best, most chic looking place, and it didn't disappoint. Beautifully renovated and decorated, modern, but sympathetic to the old style of the cottage. A gorgeous homely kitchen complete with modern Aga, a cosy sitting room, 2 lovely double rooms, and then a twin room up in the attic. Also beautiful high ceilings, unusual in a cottage. Immaculately clean, and lovely touches like bread and milk left for us.

Perfect location in the village of Mells, just outside Frome and about 30 minutes from Bath. Lots to do in the area, or you can just enjoy the village. Excellent local pub, the Talbot. We ate there on saturday night and the food & atmosphere is great. Gorgeous walled garden. Lovely walks. Lots to do in Frome, the market on the first sunday of every month is definitely worth a visit.

Easy to book, very lovely and friendly owner.

All in all a fantastic stay.
