Guestbook comments from the manager

Villa Gardenia is a lovely holiday home-from-home. Such a lovely base close to lots of lovely places. Our favourite beach was Agios Stephanos with a wide, gently shelving beach. We also enjoyed Agios Georgios which gets very deep very quickly! Arillas is a lovely, quiet, untouristy resort with a nice beach and lots of tavernas. Our favourite tavernas were Waves in Agios Stephanos and Gratzella in Arillas with lovely sunset views. Thank you for letting us use your lovely home and thank you to Wendy & Neill who have been so helpful throughout. Barbara & Nigel, Surrey, August 2015

Sheer perfection, highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Swifts and swallows flying over the pool, absolute peace and quiet, perfect escape from real life and within easy reach of beautiful areas of Corfu. Highly recommended. And the homemade orange and kumquat marmalade was the nicest I've ever had!

Relaxation, peace and seclusion - a perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

Villa Gardenia was the perfect place for us to relax in a peaceful location, yet within easy reach of Arillas with its excellent tavernas and super beach. The villa was well equipped with reverse level living which meant the downstairs bedrooms were cool in the evenings. The living area was comfortable with everything we needed for our holiday, including wifi and phone for relatives to call us if need be - this was important to us as my mother in law has vascular dementia, is deteriorating and medical staff may have needed to contact us urgently - there is not always a signal for mobile phones in the area. The villa was very clean and comfortable - had a really good night's sleep for the 12 days we were there. The young lady who came to clean during the week was lovely, and very efficient. The pool was wonderful, accessed from the bedrooms (we were a couple so only used one room) with some shade somewhere around the pool at all times of the day. We spent two days not moving from the pool - swimming, reading, watching the swallows, house martins and swifts swoop down and drink on the wing during the day, and the bats at night. Lots of butterflies about. Temperature over 30C. The only sounds were from nature, the occasional dog, and on a couple of evenings we strained to hear some Greek music drifting across the valley. We prepared a couple of Greek salads with feta on the days we had at the villa, and ate out in the evenings. Perfect!

The nearest taverna, Mon Amour, at Kavvadades, just 5 minutes drive or a slightly longer walk (uphill going there, but downhill all the way back) and the food here was very good served by friendly, cheerful people. It is a family concern, and they care that you have a good experience. There is a bakery where we purchased our bread daily, a post office and a kafenion also in this village.

We have been to Greece over the last 40 years and seen many changes, but Arillas and the environment are not spoiled - let's hope it stays that way. We were fortunate to be there when the Sound and Silence Festival was being held at Gayatri Mandir music Temple in Arillas and enjoyed the music of Estas Tonne - beautiful guitar music which feeds the soul, in a stunning setting. We also did a very brief tour of the Corfu Brewery in Arillas as my husband has been a craft brewer of beer for 35 years.

Green Corfu (Christina, Alex and Christos) were extremely helpful & friendly. I would highly recommend Villa Gardenia.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The villa was lovely. Two bedrooms with doors to the garden and pool area and the open plan living/kitchen area up stairs with a huge sunny terrace. Everything clean and working and well equipped, including wi-fi. The directions to the villa were easy to follow and Christina even met us along the way to lead us through the final few turnings which might have been tricky to find in the dark(we arrived on a Sunday evening). We stayed during the week before the season really starts in Corfu so many places were closed but we were given lots of tips for places that were open and for local supermarkets, bakeries, and walks in the area. All in all, a peaceful and relaxing place to stay with a choice of different beaches a short drive away.

Wonderful, peaceful. Perfect place to escape to

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place to escape from the pressures of life. The sound of housemartins, watching them drink from the pool, the amazing view, the sight of fireflies at night all added up to a fantastic week. The fully equipped kitchen made preparing meals enjoyable and the accommodation was beautifully clean and comfortable. The housekeepers Wendy and Neil couldn't have been more helpful. We have every intention of returning and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

A great base to explore from

  • 4 of 5

This was a wonderfully relaxing break for us. We love the Greek islands but like to explore at our own pace away from all the crowds.

It was lovely to be able to choose to stay in the villa and laze around the pool or go out in the car and be at the beach in 15 minutes.

There are some really pretty traditional Greed villages nearby and a couple of small unspoilt beach resorts as well as Sidari (which is more touristy but has lots of facilities, bars and shops). There are a few well stocked small supermarkets a short drive away and loads of traditional Greek tavernas to choose from as well as a variety of international food in Sidari if you want it. The meals were cheaper (and the menus more varied) than in other parts of the island.

The villa is modern and well equipped and is in a very quiet and peaceful location. There were mosquitos about, but we didn’t get bitten too much and used the fly nets on the window and doors so that we could keep them open.

We saw several wild tortoises and lots of different birds around the villa. There were some beautiful sunsets to watch from bars or hilltop restaurants. Our 10 year old son's favourite parts of the holiday were playing in the pool and going out on a boat trip.
