About the Owner

Hi, my name's Alison and my partner is Rob. I have 3 grown up children and now they have fled the nest we have decided to give up the "rat race" and live our dream! We met in 2010 having both pursued very different careers. For the last 3 years I've been an Inclusion Manager and school counsellor in a Catholic High School working with 11 to 16 year old. Prior to this I have worked for social care and I was a Registered General Nurse. Rob has worked as a Forest and Woodland manager and served for 9 years as an Army officer before more recently, working as Head of learning and Development for a children's charity. Our interests include motorcycle touring, keeping fit and outdoor pursuit, and now of course, "living the dream!"

Very Relaxing

The four of us (all adults) recently spent a lovely week here, staying in 'Wisteria'. We thoroughly recommend this Gite and its ideal location, not to mention our lovely hosts, Alison and Rob. We enjoyed the facilities of a heated swimming pool to 'cool off' at the end of a day, having explored the surrounding area by car and on foot, taking in the lovely scenery, in particular, the stunning sunflower fields. The Gite's open plan living space downstairs with kitchenette had everything you would need for a self-catering holiday with barbecue facilities too, in a lovely outdoor setting. Upstairs the bedrooms were very spacious, airy and comfortable with a lovely hot shower. There is lots to do in the area and we would certainly like to revisit in the future to explore further. An added bonus for us was taking part in a afternoon's Mosaic class which Alison was kind enough to take us along to. With the help of our teacher Angie's creative "eye", we managed to complete our pot stands in one afternoon, with some yummy home-made cake to keep us focused! A relaxed holiday was had by all.

We stayed for a week in Wisteria gite and a week in Forsythia gite over the summer holidays. The accommodation in both gites is stylish, comfortable and exceptionally clean.

Wisteria gite:

There is a fixed stair gate in Wisteria gite - and a comfortable twin bedded room - and there is a travel cot available too. Alison and Rob (the wonderful owners) can provide lots of good toys, books and games to suit young children and older ones too. The master bedroom is really special - a very idyllic room. The shower room is small but perfectly formed with a good powerful hot shower. The kitchen is well equipped including a couple of good sharp knives which I rate highly in a let!

Forsythia Gite:

This is a slightly bigger gite with 2 separate rooms upstairs with doors opening onto a small landing. There is no fixed stairgate here but the corridor from the bedrooms to the bathroom does not go near the stairs, so this didn't cause us a problem. Very young children might struggle with the open tread of the staircase though - we were fine with ours (aged 6 and 3). Shower hot, kitchen we'll equipped.

The pool is brilliant - we weren't blessed with the hottest weather but even so we used the pool every day and it remained a steady 22/24degC in the water. (Typically the weather for August is more like late 20s/early 30s btw). There are plenty of swimming aids for kids and pool toys which was brilliant.

The grounds are lovely - a beautiful garden with lots of flowers and wildlife interest - plus a hammock in the orchard for lazing around.

Fire pit is fantastic for star gazing.

Loads to do in the area - friendly locals too.

Rob and Alison - thank you for being fantastic, helpful hosts x

After 18 months of searching in France, we finally decided that the Charente area was for us. We love the rolling countryside the peace and quiet, the incredibly welcoming French people, the sunflowers and amazing variety of wildlife. We wanted an up and running business and when this one came on the market we both fell in love with it. We decided the place we bought would have to be our dream holiday location and accommodation. This met all of our criteria and more! A lovely pool, amazing gardens and holiday gites that we would happily live in!!

From the Owner

Our home and holiday gites lie in the small hamlet of Le Pouyaud. The hamlet has a quiet rustic charm that is sleepy but not isolated. Our home is a 17th century farm house with outbuildings that have been lovingly converted to the attractive holiday destination it is today. Le Pouyaud is only 10 Km from the lively market town of Ruffec and a 30 minute walk from the quaint village of Villefagnan. A special feature worthy of mention is the lovely swimming pool and sun terrace, surrounded by landscaped gardens and several secluded and sheltered sun traps. There is also a fire pit, ideal for relaxing in the evening by an open log fire while enjoying a glass of wine… or two!
