Amazing little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Sweet Rose cottage and we couldn't of been happier with our stay. We were attracted by sweet rose as it was dog friendly.

The cottage is lovely and there was plenty of space for the two of us and room for a crate for our puppy in the living room space. The bath is amazing and nice for a long soak after long costal walks.

When we arrived we had wine, milk and cake waiting for us, which was lovely after a long journey. In the cottage there were lots of information to provide us where to go out for the day.

The cottage was lovely and clean and the kitchen had a good cooker and microwave if you want to stay in and cook.

Near to the cottage are lovely walks and pubs.

We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be booking to come again soon.

Owner's Response: We always aim to make a holiday special for our guests, appreciating they choose us against others. Ingredients make any meal gorgeous and we figure its the same for a holiday; hence the extras on arrival, the luxury bath, fully fitted kitchen and amenities even for a one bedroom cottage as well as our own in depth information that help guide guests to the various gems we know in the area, whatever their desire. Whilst guests gain, we do also as we meet lovely people and sometimes their pooches in tow - 'Stanley' was a star. Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to write a review - it means a lot to see we are providing what we strive to do - happy guests, whom would recommend and come again. See you again soon. Kind regards, Martin and Kim

Owner's Response: So glad you both enjoyed your time away with us in Sweet Rose and that Blossom loved her tasty doggy treats; she was so sweet. I know the area is a real hit for our four-legged friends, never mind the two-legged ones, and always, after a long day of walks and sight seeing, relaxing and coming back to a cosy home. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Looking forward to welcoming you back with the extended family. Kind regards, Martin and Kim

Sweet Rose

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a short break in Torbay and Sweet Rose delivered. A very cute quirky cottage for two people. We were greated wth some goodies, wine and chocolate cake and a pint of milk in the fridge! Very thoughtful and appreciated. The cottage had everything we needed and we were made very welcome. Somewhere we would go again and recommend to others.

Owner's Response: Dear Mike and Chris, So glad Sweet Rose delivered for you both. The goodies are a little thank you for choosing us but also an acknowledgement that, after a reasonable drive, no one wants to go out straight away shopping and, even in a one bedroom, one should have some luxuries and all that is needed - I know the slipper bath was a hit. Living here 20 years we know the area very well and the gems around to enjoy, so pleased you found the information folders as you put it 'the most comprehensive we have seen' - nothing worse coming away and then not knowing what to do or see. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and see you again soon. Kind regards, Martin & Kim

Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

The property was very disappointing from beginning not as we expected at all. Our stay was for 7 nights but we left after 3 due to lack of space and general condition of property it was more than season weary. We did enjoy going to local beaches and sightseeing very good weather. Would not recommend this particular property but others seemed happy with thiers in the other barn conversions.

Owner's Response: Dear Keith As I said in my email I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Sweet Rose, being a property for a couple and/or with infant, is not as big as our other properties. It is however as shown on the website and has been very successful in its 8 years as 5* reviews show on this website and others. I did speak to Debra on the Monday when checking how things were going and she realised that she needed a 2-bedroom property in the future, being used to her large shed at the bottom of the garden and having a bouncy 9 month old boxer in tow. She did say, if the weather turned for the worse, you would look at leaving, so I was surprised when you simply texted me, having left, stating that you had left due to the cleanliness of the cottage, with no mention of Debra’s comments. We checked the cottage, as we consistently get top grades for cleanliness and would have been horrified if anything was wrong. We couldn’t find anything apart from a cobweb behind the settee, which had been moved from its walled position. We did apologise for that in the email and said we had put in place a plan to have that area checked on top of the normal spring and autumn maintenance times. In our welcome letter with the cake and wine, we do say, under housekeeping, ‘whilst we aim that all is fine, if a bulb goes or an issue arises, please speak to one of us’ – we would have cleared the cobweb behind the settee immediately. I did feel sorry for Debra and would have moved you into one of our 2-bedroom cottages as we strive to give our guests a great stay and help in any way, but as you say, they were full of other guests enjoying their stays. Ironically Honeysuckle, our 2-bedroom had a couple in it, wanting the extra space they are used to at home, and paying for it. One of the reasons for our success over the years has been the ability to offer different choices for different needs – some love the cuteness and comfort of Sweet Rose and the attractive price, whilst others want the same comfort but more space than a one bedroom can offer. But I am afraid that we felt that we couldn’t give any refund that you were looking for since Sweet Rose is as advertised and we trust our guests to check its suitableness for their situation. Kind regards, Martin and Kim
