Charming Apartment With Garden & Private Parking - just for couples

Updated: 23-Oct-2016
Garden Apartment in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England - Excellent Location, Furnished As A 'Home From Home'

We have a little house in France* and over the years have been collecting furniture and other items we've found in Brocante shops and markets and bringing them back to England. Our décor includes some of these pieces and mixes vintage French country with fabrics and colours from familiar names such as Laura Ashley and Annie Sloan. It's very much a 'home from home' with a lived in feel - if you're looking for bland, soul-less or flat-pack uniformity, then you'll be disappointed!

The house itself was built around 1870 and features in some of the original Victorian paintings of Ventnor. It stands at the foot of St Boniface Down and overlooks the rooftops of the town down towards the sea. We've lovingly converted the ground floor into a romantic, private and thoughtfully equipped space, just for couples. You have your own front entrance, private parking plus full use of the garden (which you can access via the side gate or through your own back door).

The focus really is on comfort so the apartment is spotlessly clean and offers special touches such as a choice of slipper bath or walk-in shower, bathrobes, high quality linens and toiletries and a well equipped kitchen to help you feel 'at home' straight away. We've thought of the practical things too with complimentary WiFi and central heating throughout - a perfect place to cosy-up for a winter break.

After a day of exploring, you'll have the perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea. The Downs are literally at the end of the garden path and if you're a nature lover, you'll enjoy seeing our regular wildlife visitors throughout the seasons including butterflies, birds and bees and our newest addition - a very cute little red squirrel who raids the hazelnuts from our feeder most mornings.

Ventnor really is the perfect location for a romantic break. The town has individuality, character and everything within walking distance; perfect for strolling on the beach or the beautiful downland, wildlife spotting, seeking out rare flora and fauna at the Ventnor Botanic Garden, water sports, sea safaris, tennis, golf and of course challenging cycling routes. Ventnor hosts its own carnival and several festivals throughout the year; the Isle of Arts in May and the Ventnor Fringe Festival in August. And with it's famously temperate climate, Ventnor is also ideal for an off season visit - don't miss the Boxing Day swim when islanders brave the icy cold water for charity. If you take the coastal path from Ventnor or walk down through the Ventnor Botanic Garden, you'll discover Steephill Cove, a hidden gem inaccessible by car.

Bonchurch is also just a short stroll away and offers a wealth of pretty walks. You can relax in the Pond Café, visit the pottery studios, explore secluded coves along the coastal path, tackle the more challenging footpaths weaving their way up the undercliff or take the gentle stroll along the waters edge stopping at the SeaPot for fresh crab pasties at Wheeler's Bay.

While there's a lot to keep you in Ventnor and Bonchurch, you'll also be conveniently located for visiting other favourites such as Steephill Cove, Shanklin Chine, Godshill, The Needles, Bestival, Isle of Wight Festival, Cowes Week, walking and cycling festivals - even a Garlic Festival! Nothing is too far away on the island and we'll even share a few lesser known gems that visitors don't always find.

So whether you're looking for a few days of quality time together, celebrating a special occasion, or have weeks of water-sports and hiking planned, rest assured that we'll do everything we can to make your stay memorable - for all the right reasons!

We're welcoming guests now for short off-season breaks and longer summer stays.

The garden apartment is wonderfully furnished and made for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in the Isle of Wight and we were warmly welcomed by Shelley who showed us around the Garden Apartment. The furnishings are of a very high quality and we very quickly settled in and started to relax. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows and duvet. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The lounge has 2 very comfortable sofas and there There is a huge flat screen TV which was a real treat as so often in holiday lets you get a small 20" tv.

It is a short walk to the town which has a number of lovely restaurants and cafés and there are some lovely coastal and inland walks from the doorstep.

We hope to visit the island again and would definitely stay in the Garden Apartment. Thank you Simon and Shelley for a great holiday.

Excellent Apartment in good location

  • 5 of 5

This was a clean stylish apartment ideal for just two people, In a good quiet location in Ventnor. Parking right out side the door and all the apartment is on one level, so ideal for people with limited mobility. ( although the garden is accessed up step stone steps which would be a problem for some people) Shelley was there at the time of handover and was very discrete the rest of the week, in fact I dont think we heard or saw here at all. All-in all a pleasant experience and would consider returning in the future.

Pleasant Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Shelley welcomed me and my wife and showed us around, explained how to work all the appliances and such - and then left us to it. She was a text message away if we needed anything, and warned us when she was coming down to prune the flowers.

The apartment was clean, and finished to a high standard. A small entrance lead into a neat kitchen, off of that a living room and dining area. The bedroom was further in, and an en-suite bath/shower/toilet room. Downsides, and a very petty one but I'll put it in - smoke alarm was a little sensitive. Even making toast set it off.

Situated in Ventnor, it was a 5-10 minute walk into town, downhill. The walk back being much harder work up the hill but it was no real issue. Located close to bus stops so we got around the island easy enough.

Would very happily return.

We stayed in this appartment for nine days in June2016 and found it absolutely superb & comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I booked this holiday apartment on line as we wanted a base to explore the south of the Isle of Wight and chose Ventnor for this reason.

We were met by the owner Shelley who showed round all the apartment features and where immediately with the quality,, cleanliness and facilities too numerous to list. I would like to think that if the chance to return to the island arises we would not hesitate to return to this apartment. .

Superb apartment, lovely hosts...

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful few days in this fabulous apartment in Ventnor. Not having been to the IoW before choosing a base was quite tricky but the previous reviews were so good we had to give it a try ….we are so glad we did. The apartment is beautifully decorated and very well equipped, Shelley even contacted us prior to our arrival to ask what milk we preferred and whether we would like synthetic or feather bedding. Simon & Shelley have done a really great job in creating this comfortable home-from-home for their guests. The little touches just made it oven more perfect. We would certainly recommend it and would definitely book again if we return to IoW in future.

From the Owner

We'd talked about moving out of London and wanted to relocate somewhere beautiful by the sea, with lots of period properties and still be near to friends and family. It had to be Ventnor on the Isle of Wight... We loved the house straight away and knew it had potential. And once we saw the garden, there was no turning back - imagine having St Boniface Down at the end of your garden path! As well as moving in ourselves, we've also been encouraging the wildlife to feel at home. We've seen many types of birds and butterflies in the garden, but best of all are our two regular red squirrels who we've named 'Fred and Ginger'. They are hazelnut addicts! We're also enjoying exploring the coastline with Ventnor, Bonchurch and Steephill Cove beaches all within walking distance from the hous

Activity and Interests

Nearest Beach : Ventnor at 0.4 Miles Car: recommended

We're a ten minute walk downhill to the beautiful beach at Ventnor where you can hire deckchairs, sample Minghella's ice cream (delicious!), take a stroll around the charming shops or just relax. In October 2015, a pod of 30 dolphins was spotted here just offshore, there's a great video-clip if you search on You-Tube! Or you could choose to walk down through the very pretty lanes and footpaths of Bonchurch to the beach there - about a 15 minute walk from the house. But our favourite has to be Steephill Cove which you can walk to either from Ventnor beach or via a footpath from the Ventnor Botanic Garden.

Please allow about 30 minutes to drive across the island to Ventnor from the ferry terminals. If you're travelling without a car then the Island offers a good bus service, challenging cycling terrain and many, many miles of footpaths for all abilities.

Foot passengers arriving at Ryde can catch a train to Shanklin where we're happy to collect you by arrangement. We're also able to collect you from other points on the Island and to store bicycles or other equipment (again, by arrangement).

Ventnor Esplanade - 0.4 miles

Bonchurch - 0.4 miles

Ventnor Botanic Garden - 1.3

Shanklin - 3.5 miles

Godshill - 5.5 miles

Further Details:

We're lucky to have the convenience of banks, chain stores and supermarkets alongside the small independent shops that help to make Ventnor so interesting and unique. These include antique furniture, pottery, jewellery, interiors, and of course food shops. And if you like to buy local produce then you're in for a treat with speciality breads, cakes, fresh fruit and vegetables, island meat, wine, fruit juice, honey and ice cream all on sale nearby. There's even fresh fish caught and sold daily down at the Ventnor fishery. Great for those who would want to eat at home or perhaps prepare a picnic to take on a day out.

If cooking while on holiday isn't for you then you'll be pleased to hear that Ventnor is fast becoming known as the food capital of the island. We'll provide you with comprehensive information about eating out both in town and across the island to help you get the most from your stay.

From the Owner

The garden apartment is the first part of our Isle of Wight home to be completed and we're now welcoming guests. We've designed the space to offer couples a comfortable, cosy and private place in which to unwind after a day exploring the island (or even just relaxing in the garden!) Being strictly 'adults only', we've chosen good quality fittings, luxury mattress, linens, towels and even bathrobes to provide that 'home from home' experience. Relax in the slipper bath or have a refreshing shower; we've fitted both so you have the choice. Ventnor is one of the sunniest places in the UK but to ensure our winter guests are also snug, you'll find central heating throughout. We also offer many personal touches to help make your stay memorable.

  • Notes on accommodation: We welcome 7+ night bookings between June and September 2016 with arrival / departure on a Saturday. Short breaks available all other times of the year and sometimes during gaps between summer bookings - please do enquire just in case. For safety reasons we do not permit smoking anywhere in the property and as the garden apartment is just for couples or a single traveller; we're sorry that children and pets are also not permitted. Outside: The apartment has its own private front entrance. It also has its own garden access at the back of the house and a secure storage area for bikes. Use of the garden is officially 'shared' with the owners although in practice every effort is made to respect guests' privacy. While the garden will be an ongoing project this year, its informal nature increases wild visitors and we've already seen a red squirrel and a badger, in addition to many species of birds, bees and butterflies. Cows and goats sometimes graze on the downs - they are very friendly and love to pop their heads over the fence! One section of the garden will be left wild to encourage further visitors and guests are very welcome to relax and treat the garden as their own during their stay. The garden apartment also comes with its own parking space at the front of the property - a definite bonus in Ventnor! Utility Room: Iron, ironing board, hairdryer, picnic hamper and lots more provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Quality bed linen, towels, face cloths, bathrobes, tea towels etc all provided. Cleaning (at the end of each stay) and laundry is included in the rental price. Additional cleaning during your stay can be arranged upon request (please ask for a quotation). Other: WiFi internet access throughout. Own front entrance and rear access to the garden.
