About this property

Converted Chapel With A Private Heated Pool

*** Please note that the pool will not be available for bookings at Xmas & New Year ***
A recently converted chapel set in the heart of a rural French village, but with easy access to main travel routes, including Bergerac (25 mins) and Bordeaux (1hr 15 mins) airports. The property features three bedrooms, an open-plan living space and a private heated pool. The original chapel provides the main, double-height lounge area, opening into the new kitchen/dining space. The dining area features 5m bi-fold doors which open onto a terrace and 9x4m private, heated swimming pool. For ease of access, one double bedroom (with en-suite shower room) is situated on the ground floor, making it ideal for people that find it difficult to negotiate steps. A cast iron, spiral staircase leads from the lounge to the first floor onto a large landing area, leading to a double bedroom, twin bedroom (en-suite bathroom) and shower room. A balcony which overlooks the pool is accessible from the upstairs bedrooms. The village has a shop which is ideal for food and essential items, plus fresh daily bread and croissants! The village also has a restaurant which is open weekday lunchtimes and Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Lovely villa
We had a wonderful stay at La Chapelle. The Villa was very clean with everything we needed. Our host had bought us some essentials & given us excellent recommendations of markets & towns to visit, so was very welcoming & a pleasure to get to know. We really did have a lovely stay x

Lovely house and welcome
The property is very special. We have never rented a property that was so well equipped. Even a welcome bottle of wine, cheese in the fridge and fresh baguette. James was great - helped us with local suggestions and dealt with questions patiently. Pool was lovely and we had a great time...

Total tranquility
Coming from rural Wiltshire we are used to quiet, but this holiday situation was perfect for its peaceful outlook on the edge of a small village but with the advantage of a small and handy shop and sweet restaurant. In the middle weekend of our stay the village fete took place which allowed for great fun and much people watching, it included a gargantuan French traditional meal with wine in the village square for about 300 people and some fairly interesting lawn mower racing the following day. The house is beautiful with Matisse inspired stain glass windows coupled with fresh and modern accommodation, a lovely kitchen to cook in and a perfect eating space inside and outside. The pool was lovely as was the comfortable seating around and we were able to read and relax and sightsee and shop in this gorgeous part of France. I would wholeheartedly recommend La Chapelle, all details for a perfect stay had been covered and it was blissful. Thanks James

Brilliant Holiday Destination
Beautifully converted building with all modern conveniences and a great atmosphere. Local area very attractive and peaceful, small shop close by for essential supplies with large supermarket at Ste Foy le Grande. All in all a great holiday so we have booked again for next year!

Fantastic stay!
Our stay at La Chapelle was fabulous, we had the most restful and relaxing break with our 2 children! The renovation has been completed to the very highest standard and it was a very comfortable place to stay with everything catered for. The location was good with the most glorious countryside and vineyards. Communications with the owner were very efficient. Highly recommended.

About the host

Hosted by James Linton

Host profile image
Having studied at Sheffield University and had engineering and I.T. companies in the UK, a gradual transition into property development led to the purchase of the ruined chapel in Loubes Bernac in 2011. With only one wall and a swimming pool to start with, the renovation took three years to complete and now provides an ideal holiday location.

Why they chose this property

Set in the north of the Lot-et-Garonne, I'd previously had properties in the Dordogne area, but wanted to venture further south for a mildly better climate and different surroundings. I found the ruined chapel on an internet site and decided it was the perfect project. Three years later it has been transformed into a lovely property in the heart of a quiet French village and makes a convenient and unique holiday location.

What makes this property unique

A converted chapel with hand made stain glass windows based on Matisse drawings. A unique open plan space downstairs with 5.2 meter patio doors opening out onto a patio area with a heated pool. Set in a quiet French village with a shop which is open seven days a week and an excellent restaurant. Conveniently located near to Bergerac Airport and one hour from Bordeaux.
