About the property

Luxury retreat cottages at Cliff House Farm (no longer a working farm) with secure private car park, situated in fantastic location 0.5 miles from Sleights in the little hamlet of Iburndale within The North York Moors National Park. Consisting of 3 luxury stone cottages and owners farmhouse set around a sunny courtyard . Children aged 13 and over are welcome. Sleights is ideal for both a coastal and country holiday, situated just four miles from the picturesque Yorkshire coastline. It is also on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors with its rugged landscape. Though quiet, Sleights boasts a fish and chip shop, Radfords renowned local butchers/deli selling quality meats and Bothams Bakers. There is also a Spar grocery shop with a comprehensive off-licence open from 7.00am to 10.00pm daily. A Post Office is located within the Spar shop. There is public transport to the picturesque town of Whitby with cobbled streets and many eateries including The Magpie which was featured by Rick Stein. There are also a number of trendy bars/bistros for your culinary delight. The Abbey is quite theatrical overlooking the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps. We offer luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. The cottages offered are quaint but not twee and are appointed to a very high standard, two with bespoke cabinet made kitchens in Farrow and Ball colours. The setting is ideal for a relaxing holiday but is very close to local beaches and visitor attractions. We are happy to advise on walks or restaurants. Each cottage has a beautiful fireplace with a log burning stove for those romantic nights. They are very well equipped with quality crockery and glassware. I am happy to provide things like a slow cooker for anyone who would like to use one. There is a Webber BBQ available for your use. There are also deckchairs available and loungers and parasols for the summertime. There are candle lanterns and outdoor oil torches should you need them. This area is looking over the national park, where there is a gate to a beautiful circular walk taking around 2 hours. Various lawn games - Jenga, connect 4 and lawn boules. It is our aim to make sure you will have a holiday making great memories .All cottages are renovated to a very high standard, even the external doors are insulated. They are very warm and cosy in winter, unlike some old cottages. They each have high spec bathrooms with good size shower cubicles and large raindrop shower heads and the towels and bed linen are of high quality, along with the beds to guarantee a good nights sleep. The larger cottage has two large soaking tubs where you can relax with a glass of wine and a candle lit lantern to ease those tired muscles after a hard days walking. The gardens are south facing with views of the national park hills with grazing cows. There is quality outdoor rattan garden furniture at each cottage for comfortably dining al fresco or partaking of breakfast, or just enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine after a busy day. Mr Ralphs Cottage and Drake Cottage have their own doggy safe garden which will keep in even the smallest of dogs. A waist high doggy washing bath with a warm shower is available for all doggies. The Coach House has comfy rattan seating in the sunny courtyard garden. We have known people to go home with a tan in March!. As we only take children of 13 years and over the environment is very calming and two people have told us that they have not had to take sleeping tablets during their stay with us. People have commented that when you are in our little haven it feels like it is giving you a big comforting hug, but you can judge that for yourself! That is one of the things that we noticed when we bought the property but it is nice that other people have felt it too. We opened in 2014 and have already had guests returning again and again. A complimentary bottle of wine is left for each stay. From January 2017 we are able to take card payments over the telephone. Please phone or text your initial enquiry if you are not booking via the owners direct website. See More Details below

Many thanks

"Luxury high quality accommodation, the best bathroom we have ever had, including hotels. Bothams the bakers shop in Sleights is the best. Wonderful to get up each morning and see the horses in the field. Thank you Rob and Julie"

"Throughly enjoyed our stay yet again.... we love coming over to stay, this is our third time and we will be back again. We always go home refreshed and relaxed and it's just the perfect tonic for my recovery from my illness, see you soon".

" Thank you Julie and Robert for fantastic cottage. Everything we hoped for and more. Really lovely place, thoroughly enjoyed the area and hope to make a return visit sometime. Neo our dog loved the walks but wasn't too keen on the dog bath outside ( which we thought was brilliant)"

"We have had a lovely stay in your most beautiful cottage. It's definitely the best place we have stayed with our dogs. Your attention to detail is fabulous. We have explored the countryside and coast and have worn the dogs out on a daily basis ( particularly loved Sandsend beach (as you can park for one hour for 20p) Homeward bound now to start the diet! Wishing you much success and we will certainly recommend Cliff Farm. Hope to be back one day soon"

"Totally agree with all the great comments about Mr Ralph's cottage: brilliant, very relaxing and a great location. Sandsend excellent. We've had a lovely time, looking forward to booking again"

"A lovely week at Mr Ralphs cottage, perfect location and as echoed by other guests, the best we have ever stayed in, home and abroad. It has been great to re-visit N Yorkshire after at least 20 years plus, and get to see all the lovely sights and beaches again. Many thanks to Robert and Julie and hope that they continue to build on the success of the cottages. The wine on arrival most welcome"

" A lovely cottage, filled with quality furnishings and fittings, it was a pleasure coming back each evening after an exhausting but highly enjoyable trip out. Location is stunning with so many interesting beautiful places to visit nearby. We made good use of the guide book provided. We shall be back next year without a doubt"

" Thank you so much for a fantastic stay in The Coach House Cottage. Your cottage is so warm, welcoming and delightful. We have loved every minute of our visit. Thank you Julie and Rob for being so friendly and helpful. You are very lucky people to live in such a beautiful setting. We would not hesitate to recommend to our family and friends"

"We have stayed in so many luxury cottages and yours is up there with the best. Robert and Julie are fantastic hosts, their taste is impeccable and we are so impressed by their attention to detail. the level of comfort and luxury which they provide is amazing. We've had a great time choosing from their extensive range of CD's, so many we could not get through them all. Oh well, as if we needed an excuse , we'll just have to come back to listen to some more!! Thank you so much"

" The Coach House, what a beautiful place, 3 nights were just not long enough, everything finished to such a high standard by Robert and Julie. Must return and maybe try out Mr Ralphs cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay to celebrate Kennys 60th Birthday, then on to another barn conversion to meet up with family, hope it's half as good as this one and we'll be satisfied. Thank you both"

We are so very proud of our reviews. This is but just a very small example of our amazing reviews left for us by our amazing guests.

Thanks to all who have stayed it has been an absolute pleasure.

About Julie Milnes

My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.

Julie Milnes purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Julie Milnes chose Sleights

Please note, the service charge is not a fee that we have created it is in effect a booking fee to the advertising company.

Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are newly converted with full commercial hot water and gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm.

A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016.

PERFECTION- Cant recommend highly enough

Arrived after a long drive to a lovely welcome and a stunning cottage. Furnished to a very high standard, the best we have stayed in. Beds were the best, so comfy with quality sheets. En-suite was a delight and it was a tough choice between the enormous shower or the luxurious bath. The kitchen again was high spec and had everything needed. It was great to have our own small garden with furniture but also another set of furniture in the lovely courtyard so we could catch the evening sun. Perfect location for visiting the lovely coast and moors, we had a fantastic week and had lovely hosts , we will be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for your wonderful comments Sue. This type of publicity is invaluable for our business. "Mum and Dad" really enjoyed having you around and referred to you as the "fit family" which is a true compliment to you all. Thank you again, I am only sorry that we did not see much of you with being away.

Immaculate well appointed and in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We can't praise this property enough. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, with high quality linen and plenty of towels. The property backs onto the national park and there are a couple of walks we did locally. the location suited us perfectly, just far enough away from Whitby but easy access to all the amenities.

The property is dog friendly and also has a self dog wash if pooch gets muddy, great idea!

I would highly recommend this to anyone...one thing to note is that there is an excellent bakery and fish and chip shop in the village but they don't open on Mondays ! The pub was worth a visit and there is an excellent butchers and a spar shop.

Beautiful, luxury cottage, a real treat.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful, well equipped and luxurious. The kitchen had a double oven, washer, dishwasher and all mod cons, it was fully equipped. The lounge was comfortable and elegant The master bedroom and bathroom was a treat and there was lovely double bath in the second bedroom.

Robert and Julie, the owners of the cottage were lovely. There was a welcome bottle of wine waiting on our arrival. There was everything there that we could need.

The location was ideal, it was quiet and secluded but only 10 minutes from Whitby. A perfect get away for anyone looking for luxury, comfort and value.
