About the property

Luxury retreat cottages at Cliff House Farm (no longer a working farm) with secure private car park, situated in fantastic location 0.5 miles from Sleights in the little hamlet of Iburndale within The North York Moors National Park. Consisting of 3 luxury stone cottages and owners farmhouse set around a sunny courtyard . Children aged 13 and over are welcome. Sleights is ideal for both a coastal and country holiday, situated just four miles from the picturesque Yorkshire coastline. It is also on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors with its rugged landscape. Though quiet, Sleights boasts a fish and chip shop, Radfords renowned local butchers/deli selling quality meats and Bothams Bakers. There is also a Spar grocery shop with a comprehensive off-licence open from 7.00am to 10.00pm daily. A Post Office is located within the Spar shop. There is public transport to the picturesque town of Whitby with cobbled streets and many eateries including The Magpie which was featured by Rick Stein. There are also a number of trendy bars/bistros for your culinary delight. The Abbey is quite theatrical overlooking the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps. We offer luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. The cottages offered are quaint but not twee and are appointed to a very high standard, 2 with bespoke cabinet made kitchens in Farrow and Ball colours. The setting is ideal for a relaxing holiday but is very close to local beaches and visitor attractions. We are happy to advise on walks or restaurants. Each cottage has a beautiful fireplace with a log burning stove for those romantic nights. They are very well equipped with quality crockery and glassware. I am happy to provide things like a slow cooker for anyone who would like to use one. There is a Webber BBQ available for your use. There are also deckchairs available and loungers and parasols for the summertime. There are candle lanterns and outdoor oil torches should you need them. This area is looking over the national park, where there is a gate to a beautiful circular walk taking around 2 hours. Various lawn games - Jenga, connect 4 and lawn boules. It is our aim to make sure you will have a holiday making great memories .All cottages are renovated to a very high standard, even the external doors are insulated. They are very warm and cosy in winter, unlike some old cottages. They each have high spec bathrooms with good size shower cubicles and large raindrop shower heads and the towels and bed linen are of high quality, along with the beds to guarantee a good nights sleep. The larger cottage has two large soaking tubs where you can relax with a glass of wine and a candle lit lantern to ease those tired muscles after a hard days walking. The gardens are south facing with views of the national park hills with grazing cows. There is quality outdoor rattan garden furniture at each cottage for comfortably dining al fresco or partaking of breakfast, or just enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine after a busy day. Mr Ralphs Cottage and Drake Cottage have their own doggy safe garden which will keep in even the smallest of dogs. A waist high doggy washing bath with a warm shower is available for all doggies. The Coach House has comfy rattan seating in the sunny courtyard. We have known people to go home with a tan in March!. As we only take children of 13 years and over the environment is very calming and 2 people have told us tht they have not had to take sleeping tablets during their stay with us. People have commented that when you are in our little haven it feels like it is giving you a big comforting hug, but you can judge that for yourself! That is one of the things that we noticed when we bought the property but it is nice that other people have felt it too. We opened in 2014 and have already had guests returning again and again. A complimentary bottle of wine is left for each stay. From January 2017 we are able to take card payments over the telephone. Please phone or text your initial enquiry if you are not booking via the owners direct website.

Many thanks

OUR GUEST BOOK

"Throughly enjoyed our stay yet again.... we love coming over to stay, this is our third time and we will be back again. We always go home refreshed and relaxed and it's just the perfect tonic for my recovery from my illness, see you soon".

" Thank you Julie and Robert for fantastic cottage. Everything we hoped for and more. Really lovely place, thoroughly enjoyed the area and hope to make a return visit sometime. Neo our dog loved the walks but wasn't too keen on the dog bath outside ( which we thought was brilliant)"

"We have had a lovely stay in your most beautiful cottage. It's definitely the best place we have stayed with our dogs. Your attention to detail is fabulous. We have explored the countryside and coast and have worn the dogs out on a daily basis ( particularly loved Sandsend beach (as you can park for one hour for 20p) Homeward bound now to start the diet! Wishing you much success and we will certainly recommend Cliff Farm. Hope to be back one day soon"

"Totally agree with all the great comments about Mr Ralph's cottage: brilliant, very relaxing and a great location. Sandsend excellent. We've had a lovely time, looking forward to booking again"

"A lovely week at Mr Ralphs cottage, perfect location and as echoed by other guests, the best we have ever stayed in, home and abroad. It has been great to re-visit N Yorkshire after at least 20 years plus, and get to see all the lovely sights and beaches again. Many thanks to Robert and Julie and hope that they continue to build on the success of the cottages. The wine on arrival most welcome"

" A lovely cottage, filled with quality furnishings and fittings, it was a pleasure coming back each evening after an exhausting but highly enjoyable trip out. Location is stunning with so many interesting beautiful places to visit nearby. We made good use of the guide book provided. We shall be back next year without a doubt"

"We have stayed in so many luxury cottages and yours is up there with the best. Robert and Julie are fantastic hosts, their taste is impeccable and we are so impressed by their attention to detail. the level of comfort and luxury which they provide is amazing. We've had a great time choosing from their extensive range of CD's, so many we could not get through them all. Oh well, as if we needed an excuse , we'll just have to come back to listen to some more!! Thank you so much"

" The Coach House, what a beautiful place, 3 nights were just not long enough, everything finished to such a high standard by Robert and Julie. Must return and maybe try out Mr Ralphs cottage. About Julie Milnes

My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.

Julie Milnes purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Julie Milnes chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are newly converted with full commercial hot water and gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm.

A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016.

Mr Ralph's Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Great place and location, friendly owner but I think that overall it would be a struggle for 4 people to stay there comfortably as the bathroom was upstairs and accessed through the main bedroom plus the bathroom had no door to it because of the bedroom and bathroom being located in the roof space under the sloping roof itself.

There could have been more cooking equipment and cutlery available as well but overall it was of a high standard and well laid out and situated well for easy access to many places of interest in that part of North Yorkshire.

Owner's Response: This cottage is not advertised for 4 people. We never book this cottage for more than a couple. I think this person must have got mixed up because we have 3 cottages in all. I will personally check the cutlery available as people usually tell us that our cottages are well equipped, with everything you need and more. The crockery is of extremely high quality, ample for the 2 guests that it takes.

Beautiful property

  • 4 of 5

The property is beautifully furnished with lots of home comforts. Although on hand the owners once introductions are done leave you in peace. My only issue was the bed was very firm and I found this uncomfortable for me . My husband had no complaints though

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our cottages. I would like to confirm that the bed in question is a 2000 pocket sprung mattress with a pillow top on a devan base. Other quests have made comments to us on how comfortable it is. I do appreciate that some people would prefer a different type of mattress and one kind does not fit all but we have only had positive comments in the past.

Cute and tastefully decorated

  • 4 of 5

A beautiful little cottage, dog friendly and very clean. Our only negative was the ceiling height upstairs. A bit tricky getting around the bed. We were so lucky with the weather and explored some lovely beaches.

Owner's Response: I can only apologise that this lady felt the ceiling height an issue, It does comply with building regulations. Our cottages are situated in an idyllic oasis within the National Park, meaning that we can only work with the stone outbuildings that we have when it comes to planning. Out of our 3 cottages this one is the most popular with numerous repeat bookings. Most people take an overall view of the package that this cottage offers, and as a whole our guests rate it as 5 star and return time after time.

Gorgeous little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Mr. Ralph's cottage was a delight for the senses and everything you could possibly want for a week's stay. The cottage was definitely an Escape to the Country and the decor and surroundings were everything we had hoped for.

The cottage is well placed for visiting North Yorkshire and we enjoyed the easy walk (via Ruswarp) from Iburndale to Whitby saving on parking and after a fish dinner at the Magpie the extra exercise was welcomed.

Julie and Robert were sublime hosts and we certainly are recommending the cottage to our friends in Australia.
