Luxury retreat cottages at Cliff House Farm (no longer a working farm) situated in fantastic location 0.5 miles from Sleights in the little hamlet of Iburndale within The North York Moors National Park. Consisting of 3 luxury stone cottages and owners farmhouse set around a sunny courtyard . Children aged 13 and over are welcome. Sleights is ideal for both a coastal and country holiday, situated just four miles from the picturesque Yorkshire coastline. It is also on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors with its rugged landscape. Though quiet, Sleights boasts a fish and chip shop, Radfords renowned local butchers/deli selling quality meats and Bothams Bakers. There is also a Spar grocery shop with a comprehensive off-licence open from 7.00am to 10.00pm daily. A Post Office is located within the Spar shop. There is public transport to the picturesque town of Whitby with cobbled streets and many eateries including The Magpie which was featured by Rick Stein. There are also a number of trendy bars/bistros for your culinary delight. The Abbey is quite theatrical overlooking the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps. We offer luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. The cottages offered are quaint but not twee and are appointed to a very high standard, 2 with bespoke cabinet made kitchens in Farrow and Ball colours. The setting is ideal for a relaxing holiday but is very close to local beaches and visitor attractions. We are happy to advise on walks or restaurants. Each cottage has a beautiful fireplace with a log burning stove for those romantic nights. They are very well equipped with quality crockery and glassware. I am happy to provide things like a slow cooker for anyone who would like to use one.There are disposable BBQ's for use in our lawned BBQ area adjacent to the Summer House with seating in rattan sofa's. There are also deckchairs available and loungers and parasols for the summertime. There are candle lanterns and outdoor oil torches should you need them.This area is looking over the national park, where there is a gate to a beautiful circular walk taking around 2 hours. There is croquet for those who would like to partake, along with various lawn games - Jenga, connect 4 and lawn boules. It is our aim to make sure you will have a holiday making great memories .All cottages are renovated to a very high standard, even the external doors are insulated. They are very warm and cosy in winter, unlike some old cottages. They each have high spec bathrooms with good size shower cubicles and large raindrop shower heads and the towels and bed linen are of high quality, along with the beds to guarantee a good nights sleep. The larger cottage has two large soaking tubs where you can relax with a glass of wine and a candle lit lantern to ease those tired muscles after a hard days walking. The gardens are south facing with views of the national park hills with grazing cows.There is quality outdoor rattan garden furniture at each cottage for comfortably dining al fresco or partaking of breakfast, or just enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine after a busy day. Mr Ralphs Cottage and Drake Cottage have their own doggy safe garden which will keep in even the smallest of dogs. A waist high doggy washing bath with a warm shower is available for all doggies. The Coach House does not accept pets and has comfy rattan seating in the sunny courtyard. We have known people to go home with a tan in March!. As we only take children of 13 years and over the environment is very calming and 2 people have said they have not had to take sleeping tablets during their stay with us. People have commented that when you are in our little haven it feels like it is giving you a big comforting hug, but you can judge that for yourself! That is one of the things that we noticed when we bought the property but it is nice that other people have felt it too. We opened in 2014 and have already had guests returning again and again. A complimentary bottle of wine is left for each stay.

Mr Ralphs Cottage is a pretty stone cottage with it's own fenced garden. It has a bespoke cabinet made kitchen in Farrow and Ball colours which carry through to the good size sitting room. Here you will find a large antique fireplace with log burner

About the Owner

My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.

Gorgeous little cottage

Mr. Ralph's cottage was a delight for the senses and everything you could possibly want for a week's stay. The cottage was definitely an Escape to the Country and the decor and surroundings were everything we had hoped for.

The cottage is well placed for visiting North Yorkshire and we enjoyed the easy walk (via Ruswarp) from Iburndale to Whitby saving on parking and after a fish dinner at the Magpie the extra exercise was welcomed.

Julie and Robert were sublime hosts and we certainly are recommending the cottage to our friends in Australia.

Beautiful, tastefully restored property in a brilliant location. Well equipped and spotlessly clean. Julie and Robert are excellent hosts, extremely welcoming, friendly and approachable. Lovely outside seating area is an added bonus. Look forward to returning in the not too distant future and would highly recommend.

Had a fantastic week at this beautiful property. The cottage was very clean, warm and beautifully furnished. Everything was very well thought out right down to the parking. We spent the week walking and found the property ideally located. There was a brilliant information folder with walks in plus books on the area. The owners Rob and Julie were very friendly and happy to pass a while chatting offering help if needed. Even offered to start the wood burner!

Would definitely recommend this property but would also like to keep it a secret, not to be shared. We didn't want to come home!!

What a superb place to stay!

My husband and I took our dog to this cottage in January! We had a wonderful week in this quiet village. The cottage is beautifully set up with everything that you will need. The owner, Robert, met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the property. He and his wife Julie have obviously worked very hard to create this little haven. There are 3 cottages that have been converted from farm buildings and they are beautiful. The buildings are hidden away behind the owners main farmhouse, so no traffic noise. Ours had a private garden that was very safe to let the dog into.

We spent our week out walking each day (no matter what the weather!!!). This area has so many lovely places to explore. Whitby, robin hoods bay, staithes among our favourites, or you can walk into the countryside direct from the cottage if you choose. It was an absolute delight to return to the cottage each afternoon and relax in a hot bath and then cosy up by the log burner. Truly a week to remember. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.

Booking Notes: Mr Ralphs Cottage is dog friendly.

A deposit of 25% is required on booking with the final balance due 6 weeks before arrival. We are happy to take children 13 years and over. Well behaved clean house trained dogs only - by prior arrangement. No puppies (under 2 years old) Charge for dogs: £30 per stay. Dogs must not be left alone in the cottage and not allowed on furniture. We take babies and can offer a travel cot and a high chair on request.

The cottages are newly converted with full gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm. A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016 for the cottages that take a dog.
