Converted Barn in St Jacques de Nehou, Nr. Cherbourg, Normandy, France - Ideal Location a short drive from Cherbourg and Stunning Beaches

Recently renovated, and featured in Living France magazine, the gite offers stunning original features and sits in 5 acres of land with its own orchard. St Sauveur le Vicomte & Bricquebec are 5 miles away boasting their famous castles along with a delightful bars and restaurants, plus excellent supermarkets. Outdoor markets are in abundance selling fresh local produce. The historic Normandy landing beaches are within easy reach along with Ste. Mere Eglise, Honfleur and Bayeux home of the famous tapestry. Further along the coast lies Le Mont-St-Michel and Granville, home of Dior. For those wanting to visit the romantic city of Paris it can be reached in a little over 3 hours, either by car or train. La Vaquerie is ideal for a romantic getaway or family holiday and a wonderful place to unwind and re-charge your batteries. About Tom Reilly & David Streets

We bought La Vaquerie in the autumn of 2004 and started to convert the 2 barns attached to the left of the house in 2010 and completed them early 2014. It was important to us that we retained as many original features as possible, the oak beams have been restored along with original stonework. Having worked in the hospitality industry for most of our working life, Tom owned a restuarant for over 25 years and David worked in hotels for all of his career, so we understand our guests needs and requirements.

We live in the main house so are on call to ensure you have a holiday to remember in this lovely part of the Cotentin Peninsula.

We were thrilled to be featured in Living France magazine's Autumn 2014 edition.

Why Tom Reilly & David Streets chose Cherbourg area

We had been visiting the area for a number of years to visit friends and by chance we saw La Vaquerie for sale, in fact the day it went on the market. We fell in love with the house and its great potential and bought it straight away. It's a lovely area to live not far from some fantastic beaches, and so much history. The local community have been extremely welcoming and we are happy to have made many new friends both French and British.

What makes this barn unique

La Vaquerie sits down a winding country lane so is a very peaceful spot but not far from some lovely towns and villages. There are a number of bakeries near by that make beautiful croissants, numerous breads and pastries and are a must to visit. There are markets most days of the week near by and a number of Depot Vente's if you want to snap up a bargain.

The local beaches are clean and quiet.

There are some fantastic restaurants to sample with great seafood.

We offer a complimentary welcome basket of wine, bread, butter, cheese and eggs and complimentary toiletries in the 2 bathrooms.

Bed linen is of a good quality, Laura Ashley. Farrow and Ball & Annie Sloan paints have been used in our colour schemes.

Liz & Matt Hather arrived 17th April 2014 - We spent a lovely week at the Gite which has been restored lovingly and it shows. The interiors are stylish and 100% French a total treat to stay in.

Tom & David are fantastic hosts and the little touches they left for us made us feel so welcome and at home. The Gite was spotless and had everything we needed, we couldn't have asked for anything more

We would highly recommend a stay and we will certainly be returning very soon.

A fantastic stay

A beautiful and lovingly restored property. The delightful owners Tom and David have taken great care to provide everything you might need during your stay, and the fantastic basket of goodies when we arrived was most welcome. They were extremely helpful in advising on places to visit locally, and the méchoui in the village which they recommended was an excellent way to celebrate the 14th July. We felt that we arrived as clients but left as friends, such was the welcome we had. Highly recommended.

Beautiful and comfortable gite

Traveling with another couple, we sought a comfortable secluded home accessible to the American beaches and Mont Saint Michel. La Vaquerie exceeded expectations in all ways. The restoration of the former cow barn adjacent to the owner's home is spectacular and is accurately shown in the photos. Facilities for cooking easily met our needs. Bedrooms were comfortable, as were bath facilities. The location is very private and scenic. David was very kind, provided some very helpful groceries at our arrival, had useful advice when asked, and respected our privacy. We would happily return.

The perfect place to stay in Normandy

This is our second visit to this property, we liked it so much we brought friends with us this time and they loved it too.

The property has been converted to a very high standard and it wants for nothing, everything has been done to make your stay perfect.

Tom and David live next door and are the perfect hosts nothing is to much trouble yet at the same time your privacy is respected but if you need anything at any time you only have to ask.

If you want to go to Normandy - this is the place to stay.

Beautiful Gite with everything you could wish for.

We couldn't have asked for more. The fire was lit when we arrived after a long drive from Yorkshire, there was a welcome basket of goodies, wine and beer in the fridge and Tom and David were delightful hosts who couldn't have done more. The Gite is beautifully decorated, they have thought of everything you could possibly need and it is spacious, clean and cosy. It is tucked away in an idyllic location, with deer in the orchard at breakfast, but close enough to be a base for all the areas attractions. We visited all the landing beaches, Pointe du hoc, the US war cemetery, Bayeux, Carteret and just wished we had been able to stay longer. Would thoroughly recommend.

Perfect accommodation and location

This property has been lovingly restored and converted into beautiful accommodation by the present owners, it is a credit to them - they have got every detail just right.

The interior furnishings and fittings are all of good quality and everything you need for a good holiday has been thought of and provided. The house is immaculate and has lots of really nice extras that you don't normally find in most French rental properties.

The owners live in the property next door, they make it quite clear that if you need anything at any time you can just pop round to them and ask. However, they very much recognise and respect your privacy.

On arrival we were surprised to receive a very comprehensive hamper containing lots of essentials plus some nice treats - a very nice touch.

The location of the property is excellent, it's in a very quiet part of the country with beautiful grounds but at the same time very close to some lovely beaches and places of interest .

My wife and I go to France every year so we are quite experienced at renting French properties and I must say that we feel this is probably one of the best we have stopped in.

We will definitely be re-booking this property in the near future.

Paris can be reached either by train from Valognes or car in a little over 3 hours

Bookings can be made via this website, the owners website or contacting David or Tom direct. A non refundable deposit of 25% is due on booking with the balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival together with a refundable security deposit of £150 to cover damage and breakages. Payment can be made either via PayPal or Bank Transfer. When replying to you please check your junk email as sometimes our reply goes there. We are happy to consider alternative arrival dates than Saturday. If you prefer to talk to us about your booking rather than email please give us a call leave a message if we are not available.

Changeover Day:
The gite is available after 4pm on your arrival day and must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure. We are flexible on arrival and departure days.
