About the property

House in Le Grand Pressigny, Nr. Loches, Indre-et-Loire, Centre, France - Enjoy A True French Village Experience In This 'Home Away From Home'

From your Loire Valley house it is only a few minutes walk to the village centre with its restaurants, bars and shops. The village’s location halfway between the cities of Tours and Poitiers makes it an ideal base to explore the Loire Valley, its many chateaux and pretty villages as well as the department of Vienne where you can visit the theme park of Futuroscope. The nearest chateaux at Le Guerche and Le Grand Pressigny itself are only minutes away. You can have a true French experience as it is relatively 'tourist free' but still take advantage of all this beautiful area has to offer, everything from picturesque villages, citadel towns ( many with their own chateau), sandy beaches by beautiful lakes, safari parks and troglodytes. More details of places to visit and things to do on our own website: www.loirevalleyexperience.com where you can book online

We are Jim & Pauline Craig a Scottish couple living in the village of Barrou who have had the pleasure of receiving visitors to our holiday home 'Les Balcons' in Le Grand Pressigny and managing 'Le Bourg' here in the village for the last 5 years. We enjoy sharing our experiences of living in rural France and passing on the benefit of our 'local knowledge'

Fabulous stay

  • 5 of 5

From our initial contact with Jim and Pauline we were impressed. They responded quickly to our emails and were very helpful (Jim's own website is great). The house is as described; spacious, tastefully decorated, well-equipped: in short the perfect holiday home. The balcony is a fantastic place to relax and the garden had lots of seating and dining options - and fresh veg to pick! We stayed with our two children (11 & 9) and we all loved it- we even thought about buying a house in the village ourselves. The house is 4-5 minutes walk to the centre of the village, which has a bakery, small grocer's, cafes and restaurants, a superb tourist office and a castle. Our best find was the village's open air pool - under a Euro for a full day! There is so much to do in the area: Loches, Amboise, the chateaux, Futuroscope, markets, bike rides, canoeing, safari parks - and lots more that we didn't have time for - in short something for everyone! The weather was gorgeous and we had a wonderful stay. We will definitely return to the Loire and Les Balcons will certainly be where we choose to stay. Thanks Jim and Pauline for a brilliant stay.

Perfect holiday location

  • 5 of 5

Les balcony is the perfect holiday home. Located in a small town yet it has all the amenities you would want. The hosts have thought of everything. The house located at the edge of the town provides a private and well appointed base for exploring the surrounding area. The town has a couple of good restaurants and shops. The hosts are on hand to provide good advice if needed yet they leave you to enjoy the peace the house had to offer. I would recommend without hesitation this home away from home.

As Advertised

  • 4 of 5

Jim & Pauline were waiting for us to arrive with a box of food to get us going. The house is everything it say's in the advert and very well equipted. The only critism I could make is the house would benifit from a larger TV.

Unfortunately the weather didn't rise to the same standards as it rained nearly all week, the knock on effect was that the Tabacs shut at about 19.00hrs. Also a mistake I made was thinking that as we were reasonably close to Tour it would'nt take long to get to the Loire but due to the narrow roads, farm traffic & speed restrictions it took nearly an hour, so for us the location did'nt work.

La Grand Pressigny

  • 5 of 5

we are delighted to have the opportunity to review Jim and Pauline's charming house in the Loire valley. Near the river, you can relax at the end of the day on the first floor balcony with a drink and marvel at the peaceful, green countryside. The two-story cottage was spotlessly clean, roomy, warm at night and only a short stroll to the baker's, the cafés and the chateau/museum. Jim was the perfect host, even volunteering to drive us around to visit the chateaux and grand houses in the vicinity. His local knowledge is extraordinary.

I would advise guests to shop locally and thereby get to know the locals. there are a number of expats living in and around the village and they were also a good source of advice.

We had a marvellous meal at the restaurant opposite the church and had an enjoyable chat with fellow (French) diners.

bravo Jim and Pauline!

La Belle France

  • 5 of 5

Having taken holidays in La Loire for thirty five years, this has to be the very best accommodation we've enjoyed. The house was spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed and excellently supported by the owners. Well done Jim and Pauline.
