A Converted Old Chapel Surrounded by Countryside Views Located On A Quiet Lane

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
Cottage in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, Wales - Peaceful, Countryside Location. 5 - 10 Minutes Drive To Two (uncrowded) Sandy Beaches

Set in half an acre of fenced garden, with a fenced pond, the property offers far reaching countryside views, The Old Chapel has character and was beautifully converted in 2002 with a new kitchen installed in 2010. The Chapel is open plan from the kitchen, dining room through to the spacious sitting area. The underfloor heating on the stone floors in the sitting room and dining room, plus the gas, wood effect fire provides a toasty warm Chapel in winter. Whilst in summer, the stone property keeps cool, especially as it has two French windows which open out onto the garden. The sun room/porch offers warmth in the summer and is ideal for coats, wellies and dogs to dry out after a walk ! There is a barbecue and outside table and chairs in summer. Off road parking for at least two cars. The Chapel is wheelchair friendly throughout the downstairs and twin bedroom with en suite bathroom which includes a disabled shower.

We have deliberately not installed WiFi & TV so you can totally unwind but there are lots of games, books, table football, CD player.

Linen and towels aren't included in the price but should you wish for our cleaning company to arrange this, their costs are as follows:

Duvet cover, under sheet, pillow slips & towel

Double bed £19 (includes 2 towels)

Single bed: £13 each (1 towel included)

£13 for 2 hand towels, tea towel, oven glove & bath mats

Please let me know if you wish to order these at the time of confirming your booking.

About the Owner

We bought The Old Chapel 12 years ago and have enjoyed the peace and quiet of its surroundings (even with 3 small children !). Nowadays, our two teenage daughters take a day two get used to no Wifi (and their 02 mobile phones not working) and actually talk to us and play games in the evening instead of scuttling off to their bedrooms on their laptops !

Our 2 Labradors love coming here as the garden is secure and the beaches nearby are wonderful for sea side walks. However, we never let them go into the bedrooms nor sofa's or chairs and they are confined to the "sunroom" to dry off their paws before being allowed in.

We are not precious about our house but do like to keep it clean and well kept and we leave games and books for everyone to enjoy.

What a wonderful property. We stayed for a long weekend as we were attending a wedding at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and this was a perfect location. It is weird not having a TV as a focal point, but the kids were very happy with the table football, the games and the space!

It was great to watch the cows going past, being mindful of your instructions regarding spooking them of course.

We would definitely stay here again when visiting our family in the area.

Beautiful haven, so peaceful 😊

  • 5 of 5

Spent 5 days here with my children, 2 girls aged 12 and 13 and 1 boy aged 8, also my friend with her 8 year old daughter. I wouldnt change a single thing about The Chapel, the lack of Tv and Wi-fi had a wonderful impact on our holiday, we interacted, played games, ate our meals together and bonded. The weather was stunning and we explored Pembrey Park and beach, Burry Port beach, Kidwelly castle as well as some smaller childrens parks, coffee shops and local takeaways, we have all come away with a lovely tan (better than the one i came home with from Portugal!) The Chapel had everything you could need kitchen wise, all the beds were extremely comfortable, many many games with we used daily, the children kicked our butts at beat the parents (many times!) we played jenga, monopoly, cards and also taught them how to play dominoes which they surprisingly loved! Molly the dog was a much loved daily visitor and we also witnessed two calfs being born in the field next door. The bbq got alot of use and we sat outside and ate the majority of out meals in the glorious sunshine.

Overall we loved each and every moment of our stay and i will cherish the memories we made there (i got very emotional locking up to leave!) As a family we will definitely be returning as there is still so much more that we want to see and do. I would highly recommend this beautiful converted Chapel and hope anyone visiting will enjoy their stay as much as we did.

Relaxing pleasant location.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well appointed location, good access to local towns and beaches. Really nice to be totally disconnected for the week.

Highly recommend this converted chapel if you want to get away from TV and the Internet. Comfortably sleeps 4/5 adults and 2 children.

Blissful

  • 5 of 5

Following a friends recommendation we as a family of 6 with mixed ages from 12 to 84 years young have enjoyed a fantastic relaxing weekend, not even the wet weather could dampen our spirits. The Chapel itself is lovely decorated and very homely and has everything you need to relax and escape the hum drum of modern life. We thoroughly enjoyed no TV or Wifi and went back to basics with games, playing cards and puzzles, the children had a great time. The dogs loved the garden and we struggled to get them in the house as the freedom was lovely for them and they were safe to explore. Fully equipped with loving touches and everything you need. Was perfect for my elderly father in law to have his own downstairs room and bathroom with ease of access all one one level. This place is a little gem, just 20 minutes from Carmarthen town and a lovely pub 5 mins away where we had a lovely meal. the weekend was just perfect and we can't wait to visit again, hopefully later this year. Thank you to our very accommodating owners x

Gorgeous, comfortable holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

Just got home after a weekend stay at the old chapel. It was heaven!. We were a group of 8 ladies enjoying a hen weekend together. The house was gorgeous, very well equipped with everything we needed and more! Plenty to do in the surrounding area and close enough to walk to the beach. A truly beautiful place to stay!

Amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing idyllic experience. A hidden treasure in Kidwelly. No TV or Internet allows true family time and works extremely well. You really do forget the simple things in life but this brings it flooding back. Perfect get away for couples or families. Beautiful garden which catches the sun until late evening. Can't say enough about this place. I will definitely be returning and recommend others too.

Location

From the Owner

We bought it in 2004 after it had been recently converted and we fell in love with The Old Chapel as soon as we walked through the white garden gate. The location was an accident as we were trying to find somewhere near beaches and didn't have a huge amount of money. A friend of ours from Wales suggested Carmarthenshire as it was unspoilt and even in the summer, the beaches aren't crowded. Another friend had been to Ferryside by train and thought that it was a hidden treasure. We were so lucky to find such a characterful house. It was slightly a "coals to Newcastle" experience as my husband is a vicar but it wasn't too "churchy", more homely and the garden had never been used as a cemetery, so we were happy.

Facilities

From the Owner

The benefits are the un-crowded beaches, countryside walks, easy to reach by car. Lots to see and do but in a peaceful location. We love the dairy farm and enjoy watching the cows walk slowly past after milking in the summer. We have experienced a calf being born in the field opposite (great excitement for the children), the green pasture all around is so relaxing to wake up to in the morning especially with the birds singing and watching the Heron in the pond opposite. The neighbours are helpful and friendly but always leave us in peace until we pop over for something !
