About the property

Cottage near Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, S Wales - Peaceful, Countryside Location. 5 - 10 Minutes Drive To 2 (uncrowded) Sandy Beaches

Set in half an acre of fenced garden, with a fenced pond, the property offers far reaching countryside views, The Old Chapel has character and was beautifully converted in 2002 with a new kitchen installed in 2010. The Chapel is open plan from the kitchen, dining room through to the spacious sitting area. The underfloor heating on the stone floors in the sitting room and dining room, plus the gas, wood effect fire provides a toasty warm Chapel in winter. Whilst in summer, the stone property keeps cool, especially as it has two French windows which open out onto the garden. The sun room/porch offers warmth in the summer and is ideal for coats, wellies and dogs to dry out after a walk ! There is a barbecue and outside table and chairs in summer. Off road parking for at least two cars. The Chapel is wheelchair friendly throughout the downstairs and twin bedroom with en suite bathroom which includes a disabled shower.

We have deliberately not installed WiFi & TV so you can totally unwind but there are lots of games, books, table football, CD player.

Linen and towels aren't included in the price but should you wish for our cleaning company to make up the beds and supply towels for an additional amount, please let me know at the time of confirming your booking.

About Sarah Brand

We bought The Old Chapel 12 years ago and have enjoyed the peace and quiet of its surroundings (even with 3 small children !). Nowadays, our two teenage daughters take a day two get used to no Wifi (and their 02 mobile phones not working) and actually talk to us and play games in the evening instead of scuttling off to the beaches nearby are wonderful for sea side walks. However, we never let them go into the bedrooms nor sofa's or chairs and they are confined to the "sunroom" to dry off their paws before being allowed in. their bedrooms on their laptops !

Our 2 Labradors love coming here as the garden is secure and

We are not precious about our house but do like to keep it clean and well kept and we leave games and books for everyone to enjoy.

New in 2017: A gardener twice a month, a gas log effect fire, new fridge/freezer, new carpets in bedrooms and a new cleaner who goes the extra mile by making up beds on arrival (by request),removing rubbish from all the bins etc.

Sarah Brand purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Sarah Brand chose Carmarthenshire

We bought it in 2004 after it had been recently converted and we fell in love with The Old Chapel as soon as we walked through the white garden gate. The location was an accident as we were trying to find somewhere near beaches and didn't have a huge amount of money. A friend of ours from Wales suggested Carmarthenshire as it was unspoilt and even in the summer, the beaches aren't crowded. Another friend had been to Ferryside by train and thought that it was a hidden treasure. We were so lucky to find such a characterful house. It was slightly a "coals to Newcastle" experience as my husband is a vicar but it wasn't too "churchy", more homely and the garden had never been used as a cemetery, so we were happy.

We have just won an award for 2016 entitled Hidden Gem of Wales.

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits are the un-crowded beaches, countryside walks, easy to reach by car. Lots to see and do but in a peaceful location. We love the dairy farm and enjoy watching the cows walk slowly past after milking in the summer. We have experienced a calf being born in the field opposite (great excitement for the children), the green pasture all around is so relaxing to wake up to in the morning especially with the birds singing and watching the Heron in the pond opposite.

The neighbours are helpful and friendly but always leave us in peace until we pop over for something !

Distinct lack of footpaths , however this did not detract from the house's charm

Owner's Response: Thanks Chris for your 5* review. I agree, we would love more footpaths but when we bought The Old Chapel 12 years ago we enquired at the farm about them and found out that as it is in a very rural location, the footpaths/bridleways were hardly ever used so were closed. We walk up and down the lane, some of the more energetic of our family run to Ferryside, you just have to listen out for tractors and the odd milk lorry.

Wonderful peaceful and relaxing break!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the Chapel. It's set in a beautiful location with amazing views! The Chapel itself is wonderfully equipped with everything you could need for both practical and enjoyable activity. We had 2 teenagers and younger child, ourselves and grandad and the Chapel suited us all. I found that my phone and 4G worked in patches (ee), but it wasn't needed and we made the most of the games, puzzles and telescopes! We paid extra for our beds to be made upon arrival and they were lovely and comfortable. We found many wonderful local places to eat and a very good fish and chips takeaway in Kidwelly. You do need a car, unless you're a very keen walker. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay at the Chapel!

Peaceful rural location but short drives to lots of places of interest

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated with masses of space and full of everything you could possibly want or need. The rural location was so peaceful and quiet surrounded by Mother Nature's animals and birds. Great fun watching the cows changing fields, walking down the lane right next to the Chapel.

Very special

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, well maintained and unusual place to stay. We had the most amazing time and was 100% quality family time without the interruption of a TV or internet. Our kids loved playing in the garden and riding their bikes on the farm track. The beach at ferryside was perfect. Sandy, clean and quiet. Our kids 3, 5 and 8years went horse riding at Marros Riding farm for the first time and was truly special. We would definitely come back.

Interesting conversion in a lovely location.

  • 4 of 5

Spotlessly clean throughout. A roomy open plan living/eating/cooking area with plenty of comfortable seating. Lots of hot water - very necessary as most of us were cycle racing! The dogs enjoyed the heated floor and the unexpectedly spacious garden. Ferryside is only a few minutes drive away - good beach for digging by dogs and children (absolutely NO swimming), wellies or bare feet advisable for walking below the high water mark as the river makes it quite muddy. Pembury sands (about 10 minutes drive) are big and beautiful enough for anyone! We had a splendid long w/end (the glorious weather was a bonus) and would not hesitate to stay at the Old Chapel again. Thank you, Sarah.

Welcoming home

  • 4 of 5

The house was very spacy and warm with all the facilities including lots of indoor games and activities. The owner was very easy to contact.

We loved our short stay. Not having access to internet and mobile reception didn't bother us all.

Surrounding was really nice. Would love to recommend this place to a family with or without kids.
