4 Bed, 4 Bath, Barn on the edge of Aldborough, in North Norfolk

Chestnut Barn is a recently converted barn situated within 5 miles of the coast and close to the National Trust properties of Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park. Bewilderwood and the Dinosaur Park are within 15 miles, as are The Norfolk Broads, and Norwich is 18 miles away. The barn is very spacious with an air source heat pump underfloor heating system throughout the ground floor, and offers excellent accommodation for families or groups of friends who will be welcomed with a cake, tea, coffee and milk. Aldborough village has a shop/ Post Office within walking distance. There are many good pubs/restaurants in the area. Waitrose and Sainsbury at North Walsham, and Tesco in Aylsham, all deliver, and there is a Morrisons in Cromer. We have 3 large bedrooms (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs), a mezzanine with 4 single beds, 3 shower rooms and 1 bathroom. The mezzanine also has a TV and beanbags for relaxing. There is another TV in the living/dining/kitchen area. There is a trampoline in the garden, table tennis and table football in the garage. To the west is a patio area with seating for 10 people, and on the other side there is parking for several cars.

My name is Penny Hammond and Chestnut Barn belongs to our family farm. Together with my daughter-in-law Kate I am looking forward to welcoming guests to our recently converted barn which previously housed Grandpa's snooker table and Granny's old car and gardening tools!

We are lucky enough to live in a lovely part of North Norfolk where there are plenty of market towns providing good shopping but we also have all the advantages a rural location offers. It's a good place to stay.

Chestnut Barn - lovely even in middle of winter

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Chestnut Barn which is lovely property and enabled me to celebrate my birthday with my family. The barn was well furnished, bedroom plenty big enough. Very peaceful setting. I should imagine it would be even nicer in summer as there is lots of outside space. I understand the shortbread that was left as a welcome was delicious but unfortunately my sons got there before me and ate the lot.

Beautiful Barn with charm and comfort.

We all got together for our Christmas/ New Years break (9 of us) and we weren't dissapointed. We were met on arrival by Kate (owner) with some homemade shortbread which was most welcome and delicious. The barn is beautiful and very impressive, all mod cons and very comfortable. We wouldn't hesitate to book again.

My family and I had a fantastic stay here. Finished to a high standard with so much character it was lovely accommodation.

We were welcomed by Kate on arrival, with freshly baked shortbread, still warm from the oven.

Lovely hosts who were there on hand yet gave you space and privacy.

Wonderful

We had the most wonderful stay at the Chestnut Barn. It was very clean, nicely decorated and situated in the most beautiful area.

A car is a necessity but there is a charming pub well within walking distance. There is much to do for people of all ages, I particularly enjoyed Bewilder wood, while my mother preferred visiting the numerous towns by the sea.

The owner made us feel right at home, plus she baked us a cake! So thank you Penny for our stay.

Super quiet Norfolk location

Eight adults (all pensioners) stayed for a week at Chestnut Barn. We unanimously agreed that it is a super property, well equipped and comfortable. The two ground floor ensuite bedrooms (which are fabulous) suit visitors who find stairs a challenge as the two bedrooms on the first floor are up steep stairs. The room with four single beds is best suited as a 'chill out' area for young people as it is open to the kitchen/dining area and the shower room is just off the open plan kitchen. We found there was constant hot water for all our requirements.

The kitchen is well equipped and we appreciated the additional drinks fridge for bottles and cans. The dining table is ample seating for guests and the sofas are roomy for seven adults (Penny had provide an additional small arm chair for the number in our party).

The rear patio and garden provides lovely relax seating for 10 guests but be aware that this is not a secure area for young children or dogs as there is access to the front of the property and the quiet road beyond the entrance.

The location is great for both Natioanl Trust visits and the coast. We found nothing was too far away and everywhere was easily accessible.

We visited the Banningham Crown pub twice (Sunday lunch highly recommended) and enjoyed Friday evening fish and chips at the Black Boys in Aldborough which is in easy walking distance of Chestnut Barn.

We all highly recommend Chestnut Barn, book it and you will not be disappointed.

Probably the best self-catering we've ever had!

We were a group of 9 (ages 7 -72) and the barn was perfect for us. The description is totally accurate and the overall standard very high. The conversion has been done very thoughtfully with stylish, yet practical, furnishings and all the equipment we needed. My 13yr old grandson is an accomplished cook and was delighted to find all he needed, including a mixer to make me a birthday cake! The two main bedrooms are superb and a pleasure to stay in and the third one is pretty and cosy. The mezzanine is an inspired bit of planning. Our 4 (ages 7 - 16) loved it, and, when we were in, they were either in there or playing table tennis. That's undercover with one open side, and was especially good in the poor weather we had. Despite the weather we found plenty to do - we'd recommnend Miniature Worlds and the Magic Museum. Both good anytime, and very good in wet weather. Penny and Will were helpful if needed, but not intrusive and it's good that Will is next door. Small details, such as constant hot water and reliable wifi, all contributed to a very successful stay. We would certainly recommend the barn to anyone looking in that area.

There are five market towns within 10 miles - Aylsham, Cromer, Sheringham, Holt and North Walsham. Aldborough village is within walking distance - about half a mile.

Further Details:

There are several pubs and restaurants in the area including Morston Hall (Michelin starred), Gunton Arms, Buckinghamshire Arms (Blickling), Walpole Arms (Itteringham), The Saracen's Head (Wolterton), The Crown at Banningham and many others.

Up to 2 well-behaved pets are welcome. £10 per dog per week.

A 25% deposit is required upon booking with the balance payable 6 weeks before the start of your stay. Contact us for short-break pricing and availability. Three night breaks are charged at 65% to 70% of a week, 4 nights at 75%. A refundable damages deposit of £200 will be required at time of booking.

Changeover Day:
Fridays - but flexible in the low season. The barn is available from 4pm on your day of arrival until 10am on the day of departure.

We require a 25% deposit plus a £200 damages deposit to secure a booking. The balance is due 6 weeks before your stay. Failure to pay will result in a lost deposit unless we can re-let the accommodation.

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a No Smoking property. Note that there are two staircases and steps from the entrance hall to the living area. Bedroom 1 (and all areas) can be accessed through the double doors without using steps. We supply initial: loo paper, tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Outside: There is a lawn and patio area with seating and BBQ to the west of the barn and a double garage and lots of parking space to the east. There is a table tennis table in the garage. Trampoline. Utility Room: Entrance hall/utility: washing machine, iron and ironing board, storage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and one towel are provided, but not beach towels, and not cot linen. The barn will be cleaned prior to your arrival, and there is cleaning equipment there should you need it. Other: There are shaving mirrors in all bath/shower rooms. Hair-dryers in three bedrooms. WiFi is available. There are 4 lovely big beanbags in the mezzanine which can be used inside and out. There is also a 10ft trampoline
