About the Owner

Margaret was born on the Island and instantly feels at home there, as we have relatives of four generations still living locally. Martin has come to love it and regards it as a second home and although we live in nearby Dorset, the Island still feels like a very special world apart.

Since we bought it, a number of family and friends have appreciated the chance to stay there.

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful sunsets over dinner every night provided the icing on the cake. This place is a little treasure. Nothing fancy (apart from the view) but does the job at a fair price, and just right for our stay, with golf on the doorstep and the beach just a few steps beyond that. There is also a play area for under 12s, a football pitch and tennis court in the huge grassy area to the side of the chalet and easy access to the coastal path for walkers/cyclists. The neighbours were all friendly and helpful. The chalet itself is quite small, but the kitchen is well equipped and the stunning views across to the mainland more than make up for the limited storage. One slight drawback with this place is the state of the access road. A car with high clearance and good suspension is a plus!

Colwell bay chalet

  • 4 of 5

Myself and my two teenage boys enjoyed staying at this chalet at Colwell. It was such a beautiful spot, I loved the view across to Hurst Castle, and walking down to Brambles chine and looking out across the Needles.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we loved sitting outside with that view at dinner time. The other residents were friendly and helpful too.

Wonderful weekend

  • 4 of 5

We are just back from a lovely weekend at Colwell Bay. The house was so perfectly situated with stunning views across the water and we enjoyed watching boats racing up and down and saw two stunning sunsets. The house is compact but well-equipped - we were two adults and two children which is a good number for the property in my opinion. The kids enjoyed being able to walk out of the door and play football, tennis and golf all within view of the house which was ideal. The beach is a two-minute walk and there is so much to do on the island that we could have quite happily stayed a full week. Thank you for a lovely time :-)

Second stay

  • 5 of 5

We chose to come back here after having such a good holiday last time with our two children. The property was clean and had everything we needed. It is ideally situated with a great sea view. It's easy to supervise children playing in the playground and on the crazy golf course as these are both visible from the front door. There's plenty to do on the island, even on rainy days. I can recommend the swimming pool in Freshwater which has a lovely shallow pool for families, as well as Carisbrooke Castle in Newport.

Lovely family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We and our two small children had a lovely holiday in this cottage. There is a beautiful sea view and it is right next to an open green space with children's play area. The site has a shop and laundry room so there was everything we needed. The beach is a short walk away. My Italian husband fell in love with the Isle of Wight and we will be returning very soon!

Location

From the Owner

This peaceful site, with only a playing field between us and the sea, gives us views of shipping, sea birds and beautiful sunsets - all from our window or from a seat on the patio. In just a few minutes we can be on the beach, or on the coastal path into Yarmouth. It is an excellent area for walking, both coastal and rural footpaths being very well sign-posted and maintained. Butterfly enthusiasts will also find it convenient for sightings of the Glanville Fritillary on nearby Compton Down or the Wheelers Bay area of Ventnor, in May and June.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Ideal for walking holidays, as the coastal path runs through the site & the Island has an excellent network of footpaths.

Coast/Beach:

5 minutes walk to beach, 15 minutes to Colwell Bay where there is a promenade, beach shops and cafe. The beach is mostly sandy, gently shelving with occasional rock pools. It is accessible from a private slipway, except at high tide, when a short detour via Colwell Bay is necessary.

Travel:

The property is just over two miles from the Wightlink car ferry terminal at Yarmouth.

The Lymington to Yarmouth route is the most convenient for the property but the other terminals at East Cowes (Red Funnel) and Fishbourne, near Ryde, (Wightlink) are each less than an hour's drive away.

You are advised to book your ferries as soon as possible as they can get very busy at peak periods.

Access to the site from the main road is by an unadopted road called Monks Lane.

Distances:

Yarmouth - 2 miles, Freshwater - 2 miles, Totland - 2miles, Newport - 10 miles.

Further Details:

There is a small shop on the Brambles site and also a launderette. Freshwater has two supermarkets; the Co-op and Sainsburys and a variety of local shops. It also has branches of Nat West and Barclays. There is a restaurant by the beach in Colwell Bay and the Waterfront pub in Totland.

An indoor swimming pool is located in Freshwater.
