About the property

Private hot tub & garden - perfect for walking & cycling - pets & families welcome - stunning setting on fishery and farm - great reviews - sleeps 4

In summary our holiday cottage offers you a private hot tub* and garden within the stunning setting of our farm and trout fishery. It is the perfect base for walking, cycling and exploring this beautiful part of Devon. Pets and families are welcome. The cottage sleeps 4 and it has had great reviews; a warm welcome, home produce and a fly fishing taster awaits!

With a large private garden and wood fired hot tub your stay at Bellbrook Fishery is guaranteed to be a relaxing one. Bellbrook Farm Annex, which is partly made from cob and dates back to the 16th century, has been newly decorated and furnished in a warm country style and is all on one level. There are two generous bedrooms that can either be made up as twins or super kings, a bathroom with large shower and an open plan living area with a well equipped kitchen. There is Sky TV, internet access, two comfortable sofas and a selection of games and books for those wet weather days! The cottage forms an annex attached to the owner's farm house and is set down a quiet country lane. It is one of two holiday properties and forms part of a working Trout Fishery and small holding covering 40 acres and boasting seven lakes.

The large, private garden is very secure for pets and children and, as well as having a lawned area, boasts several areas dedicated to the natural flora such as bluebells, hellebore and primroses. The hot tub is situated on the patio area, seats 6 and robes are provided for your comfort. The hot tub is wood fired with an air bubble system; the soothing crackle of the wood in the stove and the natural scent ensures you'll have a relaxing time. There is a small extra charge if £25 for the use of thehot tub for the dureation of your stay and this includes a reasonable quantity of wood.

We aim to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and to this end we have provided little luxuries such as Duck Island toiletries and homemade produce, as well as everyday essentials from salt and pepper to cling film. Complementary tea, coffee and sugar are provided and you are welcomed with our own free range eggs and a homemade loaf! Dogs and children are most welcome and a travel cot and high chair are available free of charge. We also aim to be as eco-friendly as possible and most of the electricity and heating are provided by solar panels and a biomass boiler. In keeping with these intentions the hot tub is wood fired.

Here on the farm we breed our own rare breed sheep and at the right time of year our fields are full of lambs. We also have a pair of pet pygmy goats who love a cuddle! There are many beautiful walks right on our doorstep and of course there are the grounds of the fishery to explore. Bellbrook is also an ideal base for walking, riding, cycling or trying your hand at fly fishing. Included in your booking is an introductory lesson to casting for your group which lasts approximately 20 minutes. If you enjoy the experience we have a lake suitable for beginners and children and free rod hire is available.

We are easily accessed from the A361 - the M5 is only 15 minutes away. The local villages of Oakford and Bampton have welcoming pubs with local ales and good food. The nearest pub is 1.5 miles away. There are also two excellent restaurants nearby. Local shops and supermarkets can be found in Tiverton which is 10 minutes drive – there is also a regular pannier market with tempting local produce. We are close to the historic market town of Dulverton which is known as the gateway to Exmoor National Park and is a must for the cream teas!

Please note there is a small charge for each additional pet and a refundable deposit is payable on arrival. Please phone or email to book, or if you have any questions. We look forward to welcoming you to Bellbrook!

About Chris Atwell

Chris is the owner of the property and trout fishery and is helped by his wife Ellen. We enjoy the peaceful surroundings we live in and consider ourselves very privileged to live here. We live with 5 dogs and 2 horses, 2 chickens, 2 pygmy goats and 7 black welsh mountain sheep.

Chris Atwell purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Chris Atwell chose Mid Devon

We bought the fishery as we love the quiet location and the convenience to get to the rest of the West Country from here. The valley is rich with wild life and everyday you can see Exmoor Red Deer, Badgers, Foxes, Buzzards, Heron, Kingfishers and every songbird you can imagine. And yet if you want to get to the coast the beach is only 45 mins drive or if its a walk on Exmoor that's 20mins. If you are craving the city life Exeter and Taunton are 40 mins and Bristol just 75 mins.

What makes this cottage unique

The main benefit of staying at Bellbrook is the Trout Fishery on site. Please visit our website for full details but if you are an experienced fly fisher or fancy learning then we have all the facilities you will need including tuition and equipment hire. In addition to the fishing we have beautiful walks and cosy pubs all on our doorstep. The accommodation is located on one floor and is easy to access by those less steady on their feet.

Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

4 adults stay for Easter Weekend.

Absolutely relaxing, Chris was a great host and made us all feel relaxed.

Cottage had everything you needed in there. Very clean and modern!

Ellen made a delicious loaf of bread for when we arrived and also a few fresh eggs ready also which was very kind!

Hot tub was perfect at any time of day, made it even better with the smell of the fire!

Pub and town only few minutes away, very beautiful village close by. Chris recommend The Swan and it was a treat, would highly recommend going but prebook!

Would happily come back and hopefully will be soon!!

We wanted to say thank you for making our stay very welcoming and exactly what we were looking for. The location is fantastic and your home was perfect for us as well as being impeccably furnished and of the highest cleanliness of anywhere that we have stayed previously.

We hope to be able to have a return visit at some point in the future.

Total Serenity

  • 5 of 5

Total serenity. So much so, it took a while to acclimatize. You know; from the normal hustle and bustle of suburban life that my wife and I have gotten used to. That said, once you accustom yourself, it is bliss. We had five days of pure bliss.

The caravan was comfortable, with everything you need including a log burner. The view from the huge window giving you views across one of the lakes is amazing and was for ever changing. A couple of geese may wonder into the frame or a few sociable black sheep walk through. A fish may jump and cause ripples across the lake or simply the wind may change direction, blowing the trees into a different pattern.

We had to leave the caravan on one occasion and venture to the nearby picturesque village of Bampton. Just to restock on the essentials like wine and cider. When we returned, there was a loaf of freshly baked bread waiting for us. A nice touch and this was in addition to the fresh eggs that were there for us on our arrival.

Now, would I return for a second visit? Oh yes, that is for sure, as sure as god made little green apples.

A great cottage in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

The property had everything we needed and it was great to be able to walk the dog around the lakes. Chris and Ellen were really welcoming and there if you needed anything. Plenty to do in the local area and only 45 mins to the beach, a great day out. My husband definitely wants to go back but this time with his finishing rod in tow, so he can take advantage of the fantastic fishing facilities. Overall a great short, would definitely return. Thanks Chris and Ellen.
