Great location and full of character!

  • 4 of 5

We gathered at Ships Cottage for a big family holiday, with 7 adults, 2 little ones and a baby and we had a fabulous stay! The layout meant that we all had our own space without feeling on top of each other, plenty of bathroom/toilets for us all, the kitchen was well equipped, the dining table was enormous and it felt very homely! It was obviously well used but that meant that we could relax and feel at home rather than being on edge with the little ones! The location was amazing, in the middle of everything and right on the beach. A few of the electrical bits needed updating (e.g. Radio/ DVD-Video player/ Microwave). The only thing it lacked was some outdoor chairs to sit in the sunshine.

Fantastic cottage and location at a great price

  • 5 of 5

Just wanted to say how lovely the cottage was when we stayed last weekend. Exactly what we were after and expected.

Absolutely fantastic setting and the kids were overjoyed to be so close to the beach.

We were sat on the beach at 7am on the Saturday morning drinking coffee and watching them splash in the sea in their pyjamas!

Hopefully we will be back for another fun weekend at some point.

Thanks very much.

Great family holiday

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a long weekend at ship cottage with our 3 kids and our extended family. 12 in total.

We all throughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is in an amazing location, literally on the beach and a stones throw from the harbour (great for crabbing!), there are a couple of lovely pubs that do nice food within 2 minutes walk, a lovely beach cafe that does great breakfasts/coffees/pizzas etc. we all had a lovely time.

The cottage is huge and was very well equipt for large parties, it has a dishwasher, wifi, washing machine... Everything you need. Yes it is a bit tired and could certainly not be disribed as modern, but it's a 200 year old thatched cottage for goodness sake! We loved it's shabbyness because it meant we could all relax (even with 3 small boisterous boys!) and enjoy our fantastic holiday! We can't wait to go back

Great location but poorly maintained inside

  • 1 of 5

We were a party of five families and booked to stay for three nights but all left after two nights. The location of this property is amazing (directly on the beachfront) but unfortunately parts of the inside really let it down. At best it could be described as 'shabby chic' - the property has huge potential and is characterful but in its current state is more akin to student digs. The main living area and dining area were okay but the bathrooms and some of the bedrooms were in a very poor state. Our bedroom had a sink in it and a heater / boiler that ignited every few hours - felt very unsafe with young children around. The place also looked like it needed a good clean. Sorry for the poor review - it was lovely to see our friends but the accommodation failed to meet expectations and was overpriced for what we got.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the positive feedback on the location, and also for pointing areas that need improving. While we believe most of the areas are in a good condition, some parts have probably been neglected. The owners are now working very hard in order to get the bathrooms up together - while they they were clean and functioning, I would agree that they were 'tired' and needed updating. The owners are also replacing the carpets and painting throughout, as I write this, so everything should be in order soon. We would welcome for you to return and enjoy the house again, and see how much better everything is. While it is by no means a five star property, I think one star is a little harsh! I would also say that the price reflects the fact that it isn't a luxury property. I believe you'd be hard pushed to find a 9 bedroom property on the beach, at £1260 for a three night weekend.
