The Olive House, Psilithrias, nr Fiskardo, Greek Islands - Idyllic rural location with a ruined village as a back drop, Fiscardo only 15 mins walk away,
The Olive House is a newly renovated 2 bedroom stone property with private pool. Surrounded by Cypress and Olive Trees and set on the edge of a ruined village you can feel yourself slipping back in time. The village of Antipata is less than 10 minutes walk away with shops, taverna's and a cafe. Fiscardo can be discovered by walking down a small track through the forest and again is only 15-20 mins walk or a 5 minutes drive. The house is well appointed and spacious with a veranda overlooking the pool. The exterior has a large patio with pool in the centre and plenty of room for sunbathing.

Nice and relaxing
About the Owner
The Olive House is managed by Ionian Property Services and has been for 4 years. The original owners purchased the ruins and finished a full restoration in 2007. The owners Katherine and Emma would like to welcome you to their Kefalonian home that their mother so beautifuly restored. From our point of view as the management company it is a real joy to maintain such an old building that has such a rich history. It is quite different from the usual modern villas with quirky features and a touch of style not found in other properties.
Ionian Property Services has been trading since 2008 and has been growing every year since. We are a small family run business with an emphasis on the personal touch. Please feel free to visit our website. www.ipsgreece.com

Nice and relaxing
We have stayed in the area before but first time in this villa, We found it a very nice place to stay and relax. 20 min walk down to Fiskardo for nice meals and 10 mins walk in to Antipata to the stone house for very nice evening meals and Picnic for great sunday breakfast and other treats. Nice beaches around the area. The couple of times we contacted the house manager about minor things they were delt with very quickly so no complants about service. We will probably return next year and would have no problems recomending this property or area to others (provided they dont want it when we do ) . I can see why the owners bought this villa.
Wonderfully peaceful but so close to all amenities
We went here with two friends and loved everything about the house. On Google Earth it looked as though we were quite a long way from any amenities but it was the ideal spot- two minutes drive from two great tavernas and a cafe, five minutes to a mini market in the next village, and five minutes drive to the beautiful Fiskardo with two supermarkets and more restaurants than you could hope to try! And yet it felt as though you were in the middle of nowhere with cockerels and goat bells being the only sounds to disturb you. Very few people passed by so no issues at all with feeling overlooked. One reviewer mentioned privacy in the villa itself, and it is true you can hear every sound, but hey, we were with great friends and just had a laugh! Highly, highly recommended,
Lovely property and location
The pool is lovely and is well maintained. Privacy was not an issue when we were there, as the location is very rural. The walk to Fiscardo is not, I believe, as taxing as other reviewers have indicated. There is a PADI affiliated diving school in Fiscardo, which I intend to visit next time. Bird song in the (late) morning was especially beautiful. An excellent centre for walking and botanising.
The house is welcoming and well maintained, and there was no evidence of the fungal growth that was previously reported. There is now mozzy netting on the windows, and although mosquitoes were not a problem for us in early season, I am sure that this netting would be most welcome in high season. The kitchen was very well equipped. The Managers were quick to respond to any queries we had.
After all this praise, why only three stars? There were a few reservations about the property, the main ones being that: there is no acoustic insulation between the upper floor and lower bedrooms. Privacy and Embarrassment must be issues if the occupants are not on especially friendly terms. Every cough, movement, and toilet use made by occupant(s) of one bedroom can be clearly shared with the other bedroom. This would not be an issue if you were just one couple. The second gripe is the lack of hanging space in the upper bedroom. And, just a minor point: although welcome packs were available to purchase as extras, given the fact that it was not advisable to drink the tap water, a couple of bottles of water would be especially useful upon arrival. Having said that, there was a bottle of wine!
I was so impressed with this property. It was bigger than I expected and was very well equipped. The pool and pool area were gorgeous. With only the odd walker passing by! My husband and I wanted a total chill out week and this was certainly what we got. You have total peace and quiet, but within a short walk you have a couple of really lovely Tavernas and then if you feel a bit more energetic then the walk to Fiskardo is good too. However, for the walk to Fiskardo (Via the track by the Villa) next time i’d take my walking boots or some decent trainers as it was a bit rocky in places.
Having visited most of the Greek islands, Fiskardo is way up there at the top. It is very traditional and stunningly beautiful.
I cannot wait to go back and I’ll be going back to the same Villa as it was absolutely perfect.
Quiet, peaceful get-away
Upon arrival and for the duration of our stay we were very pleased with our choice of villa. It was very clean and well maintained throughout the entirety of our stay. The main living area is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped although could do with some champagne flutes!
James was quick to respond to texts sent and kept the pool extremely clean.
As we only had a car for 3 days of our holiday we relied on walking and taxis. The walk into Fiscardo via the forest is good but rocky underfoot at times (flip flops not recommended!). The taxis were excellent especially Vangellis who became our regular taxi driver. We walked to many of the beaches via the road which although was hot was do-able. Despite having a kitchen we chose to eat at the 2 tavernas in Antipata on a regular basis - the food being excellent at both places. The cafe Picnic is a must: they made up a superb picnic which we took to the beach and served THE BEST eggs benedict on Sunday morning!
We became very fond of the 2 cats that had made the balcony their home. We found out that these cats had belonged to the original owner who had sadly died. We fed them regularly and would encourage other users of the villa to do the same.
All in all a wonderful holiday, great location if you want to get away from it all.
Our stay at The Olive House
The Olive House - for us, a couple in our early 40s - was just what we wanted and in a perfect location. The house was bigger than expected from the pictures on Ownersdirect - there's more on the IPS website. The kitchen is fairly well equipped with all we needed, though we only made snacks or breakfast. More glasses would be a plus, but as there were only two of us it really wasn't a problem. The pool and the terrace area are great and we spent a lot of time at the house just relaxing and enjoying the property - what's the point of renting a house with a pool if you don't! The air conditioning worked well and we slept well in the main bedroom, which is lovely & dark with the shutters closed - curtains aren't usually a typical fixture of houses in Greek or Spain etc. so we were expecting this. We used the main bathroom for showering, as it was a full stand-up shower, rather than an over-bath one in the en suite. There was an occasional smell of damp in the kitchen cupboards, as it is at the back of the house and built into a hill, but it wasn't terrible and I imagine as the summer goes on it will dry out more. Cleanliness in the house was fine - we had no problems, and the lovely IPS lady pops by every 3 days or so and cleans around the whole place and changes the beds and towels.
Location - we had a car to explore and get to and from the airport, but we didn't go very far (Assos probably being the furthest) while we were there. Antipata is just up the lane and the two restaurants there were great. We tried each of them. We also picked up a few provisions on arrival in the village and had brunch one day at a snack bar/cafe called Picnic which is also in the village. Most nights we ate out in Fiscardo. We walked into Fiscardo down the old road a couple of times and got a taxi back (about 6 euros). The walk takes about 20 minutes - it's fine; it's a wide and clear track and a fairly gentle slope towards town. We didn't need a torch as we went about 7.30-8pm and sunset wasn't for quite some time after that. We saw very few people around the house - an odd walker a day if that. You are in the countryside so we could hear goats behind the house up the hill and a couple of cockerels wander about and crow, which is quite sweet! There are many cats around in Greece, and on the road near the house and in the village & Fiscardo, but we weren't bothered by them at the house.
Overall, we had a great holiday. We loved Kefalonia and IPS were very easy to deal with.
Activity and Interests
Nearby is the beach called Dafnoudi. It is a 5 minute drive and then a 10 minute walk down a beautiful forest track. Fiscardo harbour is only 10 minutes walk / 5 minutes drive away which has a small town beach. There are a total of 5 beaches all within 15 minutes drive from the villa.
The island only has one Airport (Kefalonia EFL) which is about 1hr 20 minutes drive away. Car hire is recommended but due to the proximity of the villa to the forest tracks it is very popular with keen walkers.
10 minutes walk to Antipata which has shops, tavernas and a cafe.
Fiscardo is 15-20 minutes walk.
There are 5 beaches all within 15 minutes drive away from the villa, Dafnoudi, Emblisi, Agia Jeurasaleum, Alaties and Foki.
Fiscardo is the main town only 5 minutes drive away. This has supermarkets where you cash buy meat and fish. A wide range of Tavernas, shops cash machines and travel agents. On the waterfront you can find snorkelling and dive trips as well as Yachts and motorboats for hire.
