About the Owner

I have been a francophile since an early age. To own a house in France had long been my dream, and in 2002 I realised this dream by buying this unique property in Uzes. It was love and first sight, not just with the house, but also the town and the surrounding countryside. I lived there full-time for five years, during which time I undertook substantial renovation and upgrading - an ongoing process. I am proud to have created a warm and comfortable environment in the centre of this friendly and incredibly attractive town, which I now regard as much as home as the UK. My houses and garden are a haven of peace and tranquillity, and I would love my guests to enjoy the experience as much as I and my friends and family do.

Fantastic house, facilities, perfect

  • 5 of 5

We booked in with friends (party of 10) and there was everything you could possibly need to make it a fantastic stay. Kate who met us on arrival was very helpful, without being overbearing, and on hand for any info we needed. The house is clean and well equipped and every detail thought about. Although your close to the centre of town it quiet. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody and would most definitely hope to visit again. Well done Loran and Kate for making this such a lovely holiday . Thank you again.

Spectacular Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house as it has a secluded and relaxing garden but is only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Uzes. The house feels loved and cared for and has everything we needed. There is almost no need to go anywhere except the lovely walk in the valley. We will return to it.

Spectacular stay!

  • 5 of 5

It's a beautiful location, a lovely medieval town. The house is in immaculate condition, spectacular open plan kitchen, all double rooms are very comfortable, plenty of games for the kids, great swimming pool, super barbecue for al-fresco meals. Within quick 5 minute walk to the beautiful Place that has plenty of great places to eat. Also a superb boulangerie within 2 minute walk for great French breakfasts. Highly recommended. We plan to revisit every year.

A lovely family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for several days at this stylish and well-appointed house nearly a decade ago, and have been back annually ever since for a break in spring or early summer. Our kids look forward to it all year. Uzes is a delightful town, with a vibrant weekday and weekend market, and with great access to local sites like Nimes, and canoeing underneath the Pont du Gard is a great experience. Families with children will enjoy lunch at various restaurants in the square; there is a good artisan ice cream shop too. Very highly recommended for families and also adult groups looking for a nice place to stay in the south of France.

Location

From the Owner

The area is lush and verdant, with rolling countryside covered with vines, cherry trees, mulberry trees, and Oliviers. It is not overly built-up, and offers walking and cycling through meadows and over hills, without even having to take out the car. Uzes is a stunning town, and is situated close to other places to visit, such as the Pont du Gard, Nimes, Arles, St. Remy, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, the Camargue, and the beach one hour's drive away. It is a friendly, relaxed and unpretentious town with plenty of culture and commerce, as well as places to linger, relax, and generally soak up the easy southern way of life.

Further Details:

The weekly markets (Wednesdays and Saturdays) held on the Place aux Herbes are a highlight for any visitor - bursting with colour and local life. There are festivals throughout the year - such as la journee de la truffe, la journee de la soie, le marche aux potiers - and concerts and performances both indoors and out. The local gastronomy is simple but tasty, using the fabulous range of produce from this very agricultural region, and haute cuisine can also be found in the hotels and in surrounding villages. Within walking distance there is everything you could possibly need for your stay - grocers, bakers, butchers, patisseries, hairdressers, dry cleaners, banks, a post office, and, of course, many wine shops, cafes and restaurants. No need to take the car out other than for excursions. For those in search of activities, the golf course is 5 minutes away, there is a large outdoor swimming pool with tennis courts nearby, horse-riding, kayaking, rock-climbing, and much more. The beautiful Vallee de l'Eure is a pleasant walk from the property, and the surrounding countryside can be reached within minutes, offering an extensive network of walks and cycle paths in the 'garrigue'. A highlight of any stay here is to kayak down the river Gardon under the Pont du Gard, and to swim in the blissfully cool waters at nearby Collias. There are not many things which Uzes is not good for.
