About the Owner

I live nearby the Old Barn with my partner and children. I grew up in the main house and went to school in the village.

I have always loved this area and have recently returned to live here once again.

Wonderful old barn tucked away in an idyllic rural location.

Lovely touches from the owner. Flowers in bedrooms and kitchen. Milk in the fridge so we could make a cup of tea when we arrived especially beneficial when you arrive late in the day and have not got your bearing for he local amenities.

Facilities for pets including bowls, towels and biscuits.

From the Owner

This was the house in which I grew up and I have always loved the area and its rural ways. Our family still run businesses associated with the property and the forge is a working Farriers business run one of my brothers. It is a quiet and idyllic place and gave us all a great environment in which to have been privileged enough to have grown up in. My father still lives in the main house and all our children are now benefiting too from being able to enjoy the grounds which we all explored as children too.

From the Owner

Apart from the unique nature of the building itself and the history that it enjoys. It is truly an idyllic setting in which to get away from it all. Whether you want a romantic stay in four poster beds, or want to express you artistic desires and draw or paint the numerous scenes that surround the barn and the grounds, this is a great place to fall back into a sense of our rural history. If you're the outdoors type there are walks and historic gardens within easy reach by car, golf courses and places for a good family day out. We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by a great historic legacy too in the buildings and castles that are still standing and open to the public. Information on all these and more are available both at the property and on our website.

  • Notes on accommodation: The age and nature of the building and its original rustic character, means that some of the doorways are lower than modern entrances. The barn has excellent structural architecture and is a tribute to the skilled building techniques of oak beamed structures, redolent of its period. The rooms have bespoke four poster beds, and wooden paneling throughout. The glass windows at the front and rear of the property allow excellent natural light to fill the rooms, as well as affording views of the surrounding landscape. This quiet, idyllic, unspoilt scene is the quintessential getaway from the modern, hectic pace of life and welcomes not only families and friends seeking a retreat, but also those of an artistic nature. The area and grounds are perfect for painters and artists seeking some wonderful locations to capture. The Mill was chosen by Christopher Hampton as the setting for his film, Carrington, a film about the Bloomsbury set, starring Emma Thompson and Jonathan Price. Outside: The grounds consist of a meadow to the rear of the accommodation, which can be viewed from the sun terrace/patio area to the rear of the property, there are well tended beds that border the patio. There are also a Calor Gas and a Charcoal Bar-B-Q which residents can use when the weather is conducive. Disposable Bar-B-Qs are also available from the Proprietors, price on application. There is a mill pond to the front of the property, a working forge and a collection of ducks, geese and chickens. the chicken's eggs are available for the guests to take and enjoy as part of their stay. There are walks that surround the property following ancient pathways through the Sussex countryside, as well as ancient bluebell woods. The original watermill lies adjacent to The Old Barn, and although it ceased to be a working mill in the late 1940s, it still retains some of the original features of the grindstones in its interior. Utility Room: Washing machine and cleaning facilities are based in the kitchen and in a cupboard containing, hoover, brush, mop and other cloths and materials for all basic cleaning jobs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided. They are changed at the end of each stay, unless a long stay has been booked when towels and linen are change each week. Other towels are available on request.
