A warm welcome in the Wye valley

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in this cottage. It was exactly as we expected from the website description but in addition there were many special touches which enhanced our stay. We particularly enjoyed the local wildlife especially watching the small birds feeding in the garden and the tame pheasants clearing up the scraps. The owner of the property was efficient during the booking process and quickly responded to any queries. Our housekeeping deposit was returned promptly.

Once we arrived we did not need to move our car throughout our stay as there are several good pubs nearby for evening meals and plenty of walks and other activities on the doorstep.

We would not hesitate to stay there again and would happily recommend the cottage to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

Excellent accommodation with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our family holiday with two small boys. It was well equipped with plenty of extras to keep the boys entertained, games, books etc. The owners were extremely helpful, both before we went and on arrival. The views from the cottage are beautiful and we all enjoyed watching the local wildlife from the front room, the friendly pheasant, many other birds and of course the friendly sheep who we liked giving the treats to. Symonds Yat is a great location for exploring the Wye valley with lots of lovely walks right from the doorstep. We also enjoyed days out to Eastnor Castle, Puzzlewood and the Forest of Dean. Would definitely recommend the place and accommodation, we hope to visit again

Spacious cottage overlooking Wye Valley

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic week at this clean well equipped and spacious cottage. The pleasant owner greeted us on arrival and showed us round the property. Very convenient for local walks from the doorstep and within walking distance of local hostelries. Goodrich Castle and Monmouth well worth a visit. Fantastic view from the balcony and upper floors and pleasant rear garden area -loved watching the birds on the feeders and the pet sheep in the paddock. Hope we will be able to make a return visit.

Great location with stunning views of the surrounding area. Also great location with regards to getting to nearby attractions for children. Cottage is very well equipped with everything needed especially all the toys for the kids! One final mention for the very friendly sheep that are always ready for a feed!

The perfect location for a quiet family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks with our twin daughters (5 years old), and we enjoyed our stay very much!

After a friendly welcome, we found a holiday cottage that was absolutely clean, with all the little things provided we often missed in other places: liquid soap, shower gel, washing-up liquid etc.

The cottage was great fun for our children:

- games and childrens' DVD's provided (a choice much larger than we actually needed for a holiday)

- wildlife (squirrels, birds) attracted by feeders just in front of the large sitting room window: a perfect view from our dinner table. When we were away during the day, the feeders re-filled themselves magically for the next evening's show...

- they could hand-feed the two sheep every evening (a box of suitable dry food provided by the owner)

- an outside playground with a childrens' hut and a lot of garden toys to use whenever they wanted, no worries for the parents as everything is away from the village street (the gate at the end of the drive is kept closed at all times).

For the parents, there were books on local attractions to browse through, and free WiFi with a reliable connection.

Outside table and seats are provided with a beautiful view over the Wye valley, with the landscape presenting itself in impressive light and colours especially during the evening hours.

We found this place to be ideal for a quiet holiday close to nature, without the tourist crowds of a large resort. You can set off for walks from the door although to explore the area we would judge a car is necessary.

Attractions in the area (except for the great walks): we enjoyed Goodrich Castle (really close) and Tintern Abbey, also there is Symonds Yat East with the famous Rock, further away you might want to see Kilpeck Church or the ruins of Llanthony Priory, and Gloucester is a good choice for a rainy day.

At least two pubs also offering food are within walking distance, one of them just next-door. A third one can be reached using a historic foot passenger ferry across the Wye to Symonds Yat East (this ferry is also very convenient for walks on the other bank of the Wye)

And sorry... - no review for the TV as we did not feel like turning it on even once! ... with our children watching the squirrels instead of a DVD.
