Farmhouse in Nantille, Saint-Jean-D'Angely, Charente Maritime, France - Within Easy Reach Of Towns And Beaches

We have renovated our old farmhouse with love and care. The hamlet of Cluny is set among the vines and sunflowers of the Charente Maritime and the thick walls of our traditional old house give a cooler feel to the rooms in the heat of the summer. We are well situated to explore The old Roman towns of St Jean d'Angley, Saintes and the world famous town of Cognac with its many distillery visits and we are only 40 mins drive from the coast. We have a farming background and this holiday rental is in fact our own retirement home for a large part of the year. When the younger members of our family are busy running the farm in England, we go back and help out. It has always seemed to us to be a great shame to leave our house in this typical French hamlet at the height of summer and the tourist season. We have therefore decided to make it available as a holiday rental and because it is not the usual gite type property you will find it is just as comfortable and convenient as your own home. We have a fully fitted kitchen, there is everything there you could wish for. Our bathroom has the choice of bath or shower. We have all of the usual media equipment including British Satellite tv and wifi internet connection. Outside there is private parking for two vehicles and the rear garden is a real sun trap but there is always a shady place to sit and enjoy a cool drink and listen to the bird song. The photographs have been taken in February when there isn't much colour in the garden, you should see how lovely it is in the summer. We love our home here in Charente Maritime and we're sure you'll love it too.

A nice cottage in a quite hamlet. The house is well equipped for a couple or a family.On a warm evening you can eat outside in the garden. A car is necessary but there are lots of things to see in this part of France, both on the coast and inland. Communication with the owner was good before our arrival as were the directions.



Review: One of the nicest holiday homes that we have used in France. Very quiet area, you need a car to get around and for shopping. Lovely kitchen with all mod cons. Good size lounge. Sunloungers and chairs outside. Good secure private parking area. We really enjoyed our stay and would go back again. Lots of good places to visit in the area, we were very fond of Royan. Very helpful owners and an English relative living nearby, just in case of any issues. All in all first class.

Location

From the Owner

We love the area for its diverse countryside from the rolling hills covered in vines to the flatter fields full of sunflowers and maize. The village is very quite with only 6 houses and a car is a needed to get the bread etc. There are many miles of rural tracks to walk and cycle on.

Nearest Airport : LA Rochelle at 80 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : St Hilaire at 5 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : St Malo at 400 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Saintes at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Siantes at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A10 Paris to Bordeaux at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : St Jean d'Angely / Saintes at 20 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Royan at 60 Kilometres

Special interest holidays:

I understand that the area is great for bird watching area. The local towns offer everything you could require from beauty treatments to canoeing. St Jean de Angely has an excellent market on Wednesday and Saturday with bars all around the town where you can enjoy a coffee or something a little stronger and watch the world go by!

Coast/Beach:

Royan is approx. 40 mins drive with La Rochelle being 1Hr15Min away. From either La Rochelle or Royan boat trips can be taken to see the offshore islands including Fort Boyard.

Travel:

Our nearest Airport is La Rochelle 1h15mins, Bordeaux 1h30mins, Poitiers 1h30mins and Limoges 2h.

The TGV is available to Anguoleme 1h drive and Surgers also 1h away.

The nearest Channel Port is St Malo which is 4hrs drive with Caen being 5Hrs away. Dover is approx. 8 hrs drive

Distances:

Our nearest village for supplies is approx 3 miles away, with a general store, doctors surgery, pharmacy and 2 bakeries, an open air swimming pool and an ATM. For supermarkets and larger shops St Jean d'Angley is 15mins drive with Saintes 25mins.

In both of these towns you will find many places of interest as they both date back to Roman times. In Saintes there is the Abbey with it cloisters and the Catherdral. There is also a fantastic ampetheatre built and used buy the Romans.

Also in Saintes river excursion down the beautiful Charente can taken.

Further Details:

We have a house book which we have left our visitors that contains local places of interest, restaurants, bars etc, and our guests have added to this and have left their own comments.

Where during the summer months there are innumerable exhibitions street entertainers, museums and festivals. At Cognac not only are there daily tours of the famous Cognac houses but they hold a world famous blues festival in July with fantastic acts.
