About the property

Cottage in Upham, Nr. Winchester, Hampshire, England - Peaceful Location, Glorious Countryside. Ideal For Walking, Exploring Or Just Resting!

Rays Farm Cottage is a pretty country cottage set on the edge of the lovely village of Upham near Winchester and although modernised it has retained its 17th century charm. The cottage offers immediate access to miles and miles of beautiful countryside for walking, cycling or just unwinding. The South Downs Way is a long distance footpath and bridleway running along the South Downs from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is the only National Trail to lie entirely within a National Park. The village is also ideally situated should you wish to explore the fascinating cities of Winchester, Southampton, Chichester or Portsmouth all full of interest and places to go. The New Forest is about 40 minutes drive away with its heathlands, ponies and pubs. Our own village pub is just a few minutes walk down the road and has a lot to recommend it after a day's activity!

About Anita Parratt

My husband Mike and I have lived in the village of Upham for over 25 years. We have 3 children, all of whom went to the village school. Two now live in Brighton and one near Winchester.

Why Anita Parratt chose Upham

Although we have lived in Upham for over 25 years, we only managed to acquire our cottage in 2007. It was originally owned by the local farmer who kept it for his farm manager. Over the years we have modernised the cottage but have always tried to retain as much of the original character as possible. We so love living in Upham because although it feels so peaceful and remote, surrounded as we are by miles of open countryside, it is within easy reach of other villages and towns.

What makes this cottage unique

We hope visitors to our cottage will feel very much at home here. It is well equipped and has a very welcoming 'feel' about it. We will certainly do all we can to make your stay here a memorable one. The cottage is right on the edge of the village so has immediate access to the countryside and woodland but is within a few minutes walk of the local pub and church. However if you want to go further afield you will be ideally suited to explore the major towns and cities and all that they have to offer.

Nice little cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice, well kept little cottage in the South Downs. The owner of it made us feel very welcome and even had a fresh loaf of bread ready for us in the big kitchen, which smelled gorgeous. The reception room of the cottage was a bit small. but cosy and had good chairs. The two bedrooms were big enough en the beds slept very well. The bathroom was a bit small, but O.K. with only the shower.

We were fortunate to have nice, sunny weather the whole week and could sit in the garden in front of the house when we were not on our way somewhere else.

That is also the cause of a four star instead of a five star rating, because behind the property lies the recreational area of the little village and to get there, a lot of mums and dads are taking their kids there in their cars along the driveway directly past that garden. It's not really a quiet spot.

But we enjoyed the stay very much and can recommend it when staying in the South Downs to do some walking or visiting Winchester or Southampton.

Beautiful, quiet and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for an all too short weekend and did not really want to go home! The cottage is really lovely and very clean and comfortable. Throughout the booking the owner Anita was so friendly and helpful and we arrived to find homemade bread and marmalade and a couple of other really nice touches. Would highly recommend you try the cottage for yourself and we are sure you will not be at all disappointed. Such a lovely peaceful location with a very good but busy pub, The Brushmakers Arms, within a few minutes walk.

Beautiful location, amazing cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is absolutely stunning in the wonderful quiet village of Upham. Wonderful walks very close by and a very highly recommended pub.

The owners are very friendly and provided a lovely goody basket along with freshly baked bread. We went with our 6month old daughter and, although we brought our own travel cott they also were able to provide one if necessary.

We will definitely return here in the future!

A lovely stay, lovely welcome!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our two small children and had a lovely time. Great place to base yourself for walking and sightseeing. In a small village setting, right next door to playground. House is comfortable, cosy, well equipped, quiet with everything you might need. The welcome we received was second to none, lovely lovely hosts!

A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. The owners were very welcoming and left a basket of goodies, including Easter eggs for the kids and a home baked loaf! Very comfortable and all mod cons. Great location for walking and access to Winchester & Portsmouth. Good local pub with very good food. Would definitely recommend (and probably go back!)
