About the property

Cottage Nr Staffin, Isle of Skye. 3 bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5. Great views, near sea and fabulous mountains.

Just upgraded including refurbished bathroom and kitchen, February 2018.

Discounts up to 50% for 7 night bookings.

Open plan living with wonderful natural light in a traditional stone croft house. Willie Mcleod’s House sits detached in a crofted landscape with beautiful views towards the nearby sea and the hills.

Near midway between Staffin and Uig, Willie's is well placed for access to the coast and the Trotternish Ridge with it's spectacular and wondrous Quiraing rock formations.

Inside the classic picturesque whitewashed cottage exterior is a modern-living surprise – all air, space and light downstairs in the living area, with smart, contemporary furnishings and tasteful, sympathetic decoration. The new wood-burning stove adds to the air of warm, comfortable welcome.

The newly upgraded kitchen and bathroom finish the ground floor accommodation in style and functionality, including a separate walk-in shower and bath and an additional single WC. The kitchen is fully equipped and newly upgraded, including electric oven, hob, washer/dryer, fridge, microwave and dishwasher.

Up the wide wooden stairs to 3 bedrooms – a (king-size) double, a twin and a single. A cot is available and we provide linen and towels. An initial basket of logs is also provided for the wood-burner. Boot room.

Off-road parking for at least 3 cars. Willie’s shares it’s large garden with our own Byre.

Free unlimited wifi. No smoking. Pets strictly by arrangement.

Absolutely gorgeous location, this is our best stay of the four homes we have stayed at so far on our trip, close to Quiraing which spectacular views and drive. We were made to feel very welcome.

It was a lovely cosy cottage with everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

Willie MacLeods cottage was remote but that didn't bother us. There was a lovley walk just at the end of the road too. It had everything we had needed with a new kitchen and nice fresh bathroom. The only thing was, mid way through our stay the oven stopped working which wasn't ideal. The house was very cosy with a wood burner which was nice as although the weather was good it was cold. It was nice to come home after exploring Skye and light it. There is loads of fabulous walks around Skye and the property had maps etc which we certainly made use of.

One thing I would say is that as there is a working croft next door, the crofter turns up every morning and let's his 7 collie dogs roam around. This wasn't ideal for us as we felt we couldn't let our dog out into the garden just in case something happened.

Overall we had a very comfortable stay and wouldn't hesitate recommending it.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much - we're delighted you had a great time. As you know, the oven is brand new so the fault was very unexpected for us too. All fixed now. We have a lot of comments in our visitors' book from guests who really enjoy the authenticity of the experience of being surrounded by a working croft, but we understand that that won't always be convenient. Thank you for your recommendation.

Nice house, lovely owners, beautiful Isle

  • 4 of 5

The house was nicely done and we very much enjoyed our time there as well as the hospitality! We were aware of the remote location, so expected that and appreciated many of the great things about being remote (like the stars)! For our trip we wish we had been there longer to fully appreciate all of the walks Skye has to offer and devote the time to finding food/groceries, driving, and seeing the sites. Overall it was a great trip and with some more planning on our part likely would have been even better. 😀?

Only suggestion for the owners may be to have a house manual or something with information about the house (I wondered about the history) as well as closest food and grocery information as well as hours. Things like that. We may have missed it but that was really our only take away. The house really was beautiful and we appreciated the aesthetics and wished we could buy some of that amazing artwork! Thanks! The muffins were awesome!!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much. We are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday and appreciate your kind comments. We're sorry you didn't see the information folder - we enjoyed compiling this with our children and adding to it over the years. We hope to see you for a longer stay in the near future.
