House in Graiguenamanagh, Kilkenny, Ireland - Stunningly Designed House In A Peaceful Location With Amenities Nearby

Clarahawn House sits in its own private and secluded three acre (1.2 hectare) garden with stunning uninterrupted views of the Blackstairs Mountains. The garden has large lawn areas with seating and a fire pit, an area of woodland and private river frontage onto the River Barrow (the main photo is the bottom of the garden). It is just over a kilometre from the pubs and shops of Graiguenamanagh (Village of the Monks), 40 minutes drive from the popular historic Kilkenny City, ninety minutes drive from Central Dublin and sixty minutes from both Rosslare car ferry and the sandy beaches of the Hook Peninsula. The house is a nineteenth century cottage with a modern architect-designed wing built onto it. Both the house and gardens have been luxuriously renovated in 2013. Inside the house is a comfortable mix of antique and modern furniture and contemporary artwork.

Why Dermot Scully chose Carlow

I love the rolling countryside, the rivers and the mountains. The property feels like it is in the middle of nowhere but only a mile from numerous shops, bars and restaurants.

It is a great base to explore Kilkenny City, Dublin and the picturesque villages of Graiguenamanagh, Inistioge, St Mullins and Thomastown.

What makes this house unique

We were constantly looking for lovely places to stay in Ireland where we could stay with our dog.

We also wanted the house to be big enough to get all the family together with enough space for everyone.


Special interest holidays:

The river barrow provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and river swimming. You are very welcome to use the river bank to moor watersports equipment.


Dublin airport is an easy 90 minute drive. Rosslaire port is 60 minutes drive. Waterford airport is about 30 minutes drive. Trains from nearby Bagnelstown regularly go into Dublin.


Graiguenamanagh Village is one mile away, Inistioge is 7 miles and Kilkenny City is 20 miles. Dublin is 80 miles.

Notes on accommodation: Clarahawn House is a mile from Graiguenamanagh village which has a number of pubs, shops and restaurants as well as a famous Abbey and still working Victorian wall mill. The house is on the bank of the River Barrow and has three acres of private land a private river frontage and fishing. Surrounded by fields and with uninterrupted views of the Blackstairs Mountains, the house provides a very comfortable and relaxing escape with everything you need close to hand. It provides an ideal base for exploring the local area, Kilkenny City and Dublin and is convenient for the ferry at Rosslaire. The house is furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique furniture and a selection of contemporary art. There is a downstairs toilet and shower room, two downstairs sitting rooms and a utility room. All four bedrooms, the main bathroom and the ensuite are upstairs. Outside: The house is surrounded by gardens. The upper garden is about an acre and relatively level with some tiered stone walling. There is a wood deck area and additional terrace with outside seating and dining for eight people (with additional benches). There is a fire pit for sitting out in the evening. At the front of the house is a courtyard garden with herb beds. Stairways lead down from the upper garden to a childrens play area with swings and then onto the water meadow which banks onto the River Barrow. Utility Room: The utility room has a microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a spare sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are provided at the start of your stay. Other: There is another separate sitting room downstairs with a log burner, and 2 seater leather chesterfield sofa, TV DVD and sky access.

Fabulous Property, amazing location...we loved it!!!!

We loved our stay at Clarahawn so much we are returning in March. The house is brilliant for use as a holiday home, very tasteful and practically designed, in top notch condition but it immediately feels homely. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and is a pleasure to cook in with high end falcon range cooker and top quality appliances. The grounds are perfect for our dog, plenty of secure area for him to romp in and the views even in January are wonderful. The town has excellent supermarket, and facilities including a great dog friendly pub which does a fine pint of Guinness. Everyone is so friendly and the house manager and her husband are great, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area,nothing is too much trouble. If we were to buy a holiday home in Ireland, this is the place I would love.
