About the Owner

Our Charente Maritime love affair began over 30 years ago -We moved from Hertfordshire in 2006, bought an acre of land and drew up plans for a new house.

Our wish list:near beach, town, shops, restaurants, large garden, quiet village location, good access to airports and roads.Oh and the many wonderful hours of sunshine and amazing chateaus, wineries, gardens to visit.

We just love the countryside and the different areas:

Saintes -our local Roman town on the river with its Amphitheatre, museums, restaurants and shopping. The glorious blue flag beaches ports and coves. Chic Royan with its marina and concerts on the beach in the summer!

When the work is done we love to relax in our quiet, private oasis - dip in the pool, chill on the terrace, get together with friends and share some wine. We would like you to share it with us.

Superb Bed & Breakfast in a great location for exploring the Charente Maritime & Medoc Region

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic hosts with a superb bed and breakfast establishment, kept to a very high standard and attention to detail that we could not fault. surrounded by a large well maintained garden with a pool with plenty of space if you wish to lounge and relax also ideal for eating.

Located 15 minutes from Saintes and 30 minutes from Royan it is a great location for exploring the region with ease, which we took advantage of visiting towns and villages locally, and also a short ferry ride from Royan is the Medoc Region with brilliant chateau's to view and visit.

Barbara and Jeff our hosts were vey helpful with great knowledge of the area so advised and advised of places we may wish to see.

Luchat is a quiet village with no facilities, however with Saintes so close it is not an inconvenience, we like exploring and visiting new places so the Location is great for us and would recommend to other like minded guests.

We would like to thank Barbara and Jeff again for a wonderful time

Lovely Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 days in late June with Barb and Jeff and had a wonderful time. their hospitality is second to none. The rooms are large, immaculately clean and very comfortable. We had our best 3 nights sleep out of our whole 3 week trip around Europe whilst staying at Chex Touresol. The breakfast was delicious with lots of fresh produce from their garden. The house and gardens are lovely and we really enjoyed been able to relax on the back terrace and enjoy the French countryside - the places to eat that Barb and Jeff recommended not only served delicious food but were memorable meals. We enjoyed our trip so much we are already planning our next stay in 2017.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased that we achieved what we set out to provide for all our guests: comfort, quality, peace, tranquil garden, space and a good breakfast to set you up for the day! It was a real pleasure having you in our home. And the evenings on the terrace + wine tasting are memorable, especially your last nite! Take care stay in touch and see you next year hopefully.

Oh my! A little piece of paradise.

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing holiday! Barb & Jeff are excellent (and fun) hosts; nothing was too much trouble. Chez Tournesol is modern, immaculately clean and very comfortable and beautifully run. Without doubt we will be booking again for next year and thoroughly recommending to anyone that will listen! Barb's cooking, if you chose to dine in, (and you should, at least once or twice) is superb!

There is so much to do and see in this beautiful area of France and if you enjoy 50's to 90's music or think you know a thing or two about wine Jeff''s knowledge is encyclopaedic - (just beware if you go head to head with him; prepared to be loose. He even makes you feel good about coming second!)

Thank you so much Barb & Jeff. Until next time. Terry & Bev

Owner's Response: Thank you Terry and Bev for your kind words! We are so pleased that you really enjoyed your stay with us. That's what we want for our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed (even if you lose against Jeff!). So pleased to hear you are thinking of coming back for more! I will try and dream up some more recipes! And, of course, yes there is so much to see and do here. Take care and keep in touch! Barb and Jeff

Excellent B&B

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in this B&B for a week in July/Aug. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. The room was immaculate, extremely comfortable, and spotlessly clean! Tea & coffee making facilites were also provided. You also have use of a small well equipped kitchen where you can prepare lunch/dinner etc..

A lovely fresh breakfast was provided every day, and if the weather permits, it is eaten out on the terrace. Homemade bread, jams, yoghurts are provided along with cereals, fresh juice, coissants and plenty of tea and coffee!

Barbara & Jeff are extremely helpful and have a wide knowledge of the area. The B&B is well positioned for exploring and easy access to the lovely beaches. We spent many evenings on the terrace with Barbara & Jeff enjoying a glass or two, and enjoying their company.

There is nothing to dislike about this B&B. First class!!

A month of bliss

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful 4 weeks at Barbara and Jeff's B&B/self-catering. Accommodation was top notch and Barbara and Jeff were extremely helpful and attentive. The area around Luchat is very interesting and beaches are only about 30 minutes away by car. Jeff is very interested in wine and he enjoys imparting his knowledge about the local wines in the area.

Location

From the Owner

Our individually designed home fulfilled our dream of living in the Charente Maritime and being near to the Royan coast. Luchat is very well situated between La Rochelle and Bordeaux Airports. We are 10 minutes from Saintes (A10) a large town on the River Charente. Royan is 20 minutes away with unspoilt beaches and yet we can embrace french life in our small friendly village with lovely quiet lanes to explore on foot or cycle. We have the best of both worlds -peace and quiet in the beautiful countryside with historic towns and coast nearby. Plenty of places to shop, eat and explore! Enjoy watersports, play tennis, golf, go horseriding. Sample the Marenne oysters, visit chateaus and vineyards, take a boat trip or simply relax at Chez Tournesol. There is something for everyone.
