About the Owner

Gill and Geoff Barton are the new owners of Rough Close House and Coppice.

Having recently retired, we are excited to be able to live in the heart of the Lake District in a beautiful location. We have worked in the area for over 30 years and have a background in sport and outdoor pursuits, so we know how to enjoy it and where to go, even pubs and coffee shops!

Second visit and just as good as the first.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at The Coppice with the superb owners Gill and Geoff, our first visit having been in October 2015. This really is a fabulous cottage being spotlessly clean comfortable furnished and with fabulous views from the lounge windows. It is well positioned for Hawkshead village for pubs and restaurants and is central for visiting other parts of The Lakes, although we did the majority of our walking straight from the front door. I can recommend The Coppice for a fabulous stay.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Superb property in perfect location. The accommodation did what it said on the tin. Warm, welcoming - a perfect base for exploring the scenic beauty of the lakes. A wonderful welcome pack was much appreciated as was Geoff's local weather & tourist advice. We will certainly be returning, hopefully later this year.

An absolute gem!

  • 5 of 5

The Coppice is an absolute gem with spacious and comfortable accommodation and spectacular views over Esthwaite water.

Gill and Geoff are perfect hosts and provided everything we needed for a relaxing holiday including delicious home baking and other treats. They have a wealth of knowledge about the local area and can offer advice on walks and restaurants.

This is our second stay at the Coppice and won't be the last! We even got to see the Ospreys... amazing!

A Fabulous Property in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived at the Coppice and met Geoff & Gill we knew we were going to have a great holiday. They are warm and friendly people and the location is absolutely stunning, with a view from the lounge window out towards the lake. We were too late in the year to see any ospreys but we did see an owl one evening just as it was going dark. The Coppice is beautifully decorated and furnished throughout with a large bathroom. We managed to do walks each day without using the car, straight out of the drive and head into Hawkshead where most local walks begin. We have already booked again for next year, it is really that good.

Magical family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had such a fantastic week staying in The Coppice. It was more than we ever could've wished for. We took our 9 month old son and Gill and Geoff were so accommodating, putting a high chair and cot up for us to use. Very kind people and extremely welcoming. Fantastic location with beautiful grounds and wonderful views. We were very sad to leave and are already looking forward to our next stay. Safe to say the best cottage we have ever stayed in.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that our visitors enjoyed their stay so much. However, we must point out that we normally don't allow children. Their son was born after they had booked, so we let the booking go ahead.
