About the Owner

We are Jan and Ningsih. After having worked and lived in the far flung corners of the world for the past 30 years, we are now preparing for retirement and realising our dream to settle in France.

We love this particular region of France because of the beautiful landscapes, food and people. We believe that we have found something truly special in Grandcoing and look forward to growing old here.

We had a lovely week here, Jan was very helpful with where to go and what to do. We loved the lake in the village of Saint Saud. Gite nicely decorated and very comfortable.

Great property, tranquil location in the heart of beautiful French countryside.

Away from the 'hurley burley' of life and commercialism.

Wonderful local produce to enjoy.

Friendly locals in picturesque villages, with a range of sightseeing/destinations and activities reasonably close by - or you could just sit by the pool.

Location

From the Owner

We love the this part of the Dordogne because of its beautiful countryside. The Perigord-Limousin natural park with forests, fields, rivers and many lakes and ponds create a wonderful setting. Whilst having easy access to all the wonderful attractions of the Dordogne, it is away from the tourist crowd and is the perfect place to relax with family and friends.

Special interest holidays:

This area is great for cycling and very popular with cyclists, both for mountain bikers and road cyclists. Mountain bikers can enjoy the many kilometres of off-road tracks, passing chateaux, lakes, rivers and fantastic scenery. For the road cyclist, these quiet, undulating roads make road cycling safe and a pleasure to ride, passing through many typical French villages and along lakes and rivers. The views are breathtaking.

The area is perfect for family holidays. There is a large dam in nearby Miallet which is wonderful for walking. There is a nature trail with information on flora and fauna, or even off-road cycling, and safe for the children. A little further afield we have a modified disused railway track which again is very popular for families to cycle or walk along as it is traffic free.

Although this is a rural location set in a natural park, there are many lakes locally with lovely man-made beaches. Many have diving platforms, canoes, pedaloes, cafes and toilet facilities. The beaches are patrolled by life guards during the summer months. The nearest one is just a few minutes away on the outskirts of Saint Saud (our nearest village).

Travel:

Limoges airport, which has daily low-cost flights from/to the UK is only 45 minutes away. Because of its rural setting it is recommended to have a car (car rental is available from Limoges airport). It is about seven hours by road from Calais.

Distances:

The local villages of Miallet and Saint Saud, each at about 5 km (3 miles) distance, cater for all the basics with a general store, bakers, butchers, bars, restaurant and garage.

Around 12 km away is the town of La Coquille. Here you will find a larger supermarket, a mainline railway station together with further shops and a selection of cafes/restaurants. St Pardoux, also at around 12 km with a good supermarket, many shops and restaurant s. Further afield are Nontron (20 km) and Brantome (30km)

Further Details:

The Perigord is well known for it gastronomy. The many local markets offer a great choice of fresh produce, fruits and vegetables, poultry, fish, cheeses etc.; every day of the week one or more markets are open in the vicinity. There are excellent restaurants nearby, as well as simple bistro style places.
