About the property

Chalet in Kippford, Nr. Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland - An Exclusive Private Development Nestling In Mature Woodland Above An Idyllic Coastal Village.

Kipppford is an idyllic coastal village nestling on the estuary of the river Urr where it joins the Solway Firth. The area is surrounded by unspoilt mature woodland, rocky cliffs and sandy beaches. The village's nautical origins date back to the fifth century AD and landscape wise, little has changed. Kipplochan is one of nine luxury log cabins which nestle round a small pond or "lochan" on a private and exclusive site on the north side of the village. The lodge is the largest of the nine on an exclusive site. It is bright, spacious and lavishly equipped in every way and is intended to provide a secluded and tranquil retreat but with all the comforts and technology of home. Free Wi-Fi, large flat screen HD televisions, high end HiFi, Microsoft Xbox gaming consoles, DVD player and SKY / BT sport are all included in the package. We are suitable for families, couples, sailors, mountain bikers, in fact anyone other than stag or hen parties!

Great dog friendly log cabin

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a lovely weekend at Kipplochan Lodge with my partner and our 2 dogs. Lodge has everything you need including sky tv and a good hifi system (nice extras not usually included in property rentals). There was a nice welcome basket waiting for us on arrival, which is always appreciated. The lodge is of a very good standard and immaculately clean. It is situated on a quiet site just outside of the village of Kippford. The village is a quiet small place about 10 minutes walk down the road. There are 2 pubs. We only went to the Anchor and they were very welcoming of the dogs, served decent food and decent beer. What more do you need? We would definitely return to Kipplochan Lodge. Great property!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

From first arriving at the lodge everything was perfect, its so homely and comfortable we hardly wanted to leave. Its in a great location not too far from Dalbeattie where we had a lovely lunch at The beach tree. Everything you could need for a break away was available at the lodge, cooker, ironing board etc. The beds were comfortable and the shower in the en suite was just amazing. We had a lovely welcome basket when we arrived, it was clean and tidy.

Definitely luxury!

  • 5 of 5

What an upmarket cabin! Nicer than my house! Only thing was the shower had a noisy pipe and would scream at you whilst showering! Told the owner and she knew and apologised for it. But really it was no problem. The welcome pack was great, a litre of decent red wine, posh crisps, fudge and crackers. Fabulous! We walked the coastal path round to Sandyhills and got the bus back. Loads of rockpools abundant with wildlife. Amazing views. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (Family with three teenage girls)

Castle Douglas
Anchor Hotel at Kippford
The Mariner Hotel
Car: recommended

Kippford lies at the mouth of the Urr estuary where the river joins the Solway Firth. The Colvend Coast is often referred to as the Scottish Riviera due to its mild climate and spectacular beaches. This secluded and rugged coastline was once a haven for smugglers, because then as now, it's practically empty of people.

Kipplochan is less than ten minutes walk to the nearest beach at Kippford. Others, such as Rockcliff or Sandyhills (see photograph) can be reached in under ten minutes by car.

Use of a car is highly recommended although the nearest public transport (bus) route passes the entrance to Kipp Paddock on an hourly basis.

Dalbeattie town is less than three miles away. Castle Douglas is ten miles away and Dumfries is eighteen miles away.

The M6 motorway is approximately forty three miles away.

Further Details:

There are three hotels close to Kipplochan which provide good meals. In Kippford village there is the Anchor hotel and the Mariner Hotel. Both have a friendly atmosphere and good food and are situated on the sea front. In the opposite direction and slightly inland is the Clonyard Hotel which is tucked away in mature woodland. This is more of a country house hotel and also has a friendly atmosphere and good food.

During the summer months there is a small shop on the local caravan site - five minutes away by foot, which sells essential items. If more substantial shopping is required then Dalbeattie town - three miles away - boasts three small supermarkets and numerous shops, pubs and restaurants.
