The property is ideally situated in superb walking and cycling country. There is a network of footpaths and quiet lanes from the property, with maps and information provided to help you plan your routes. Six miles away, through the beautiful Mortimer Forest, is the historic fortress town of Ludlow with its castle, riverside walks, and traditional market. Ludlow is renowned for its annual festivals, fine butchers, specialist shops and restaurants. Three miles away is the village of Wigmore with its ancient castle ruins, village shop and pub/restaurant with highly rated food. The ancient cathedral city of Hereford is 25 miles away and a host of natural and historic attractions are within easy reach.
'The old granary' is a beautiful barn conversion in a lovely area of Ludlow.
It is obvious that time and money has been spent renovating the barn which is of a very high standard. Pall the bedrooms are beautiful, with colour schemes that are pleasing to the eye. The kitchen is modern with everything you would need, crockery, utensils, picnic items etc. Upon arrival we were greeted with a scrumptious display of homemade scones, jam and clotted cream which was a lovely gesture.
The lounge is a great size yet feels cosy and welcoming, especially when the wood burner is roaring away. There are a variety of broad games, DVDs etc to keep everyone entertained. There is Wifi in the cottage, which is great. There is also a room with a full size table tennis table which provided hours of fun on the first night. The cottage is about 6 miles from Ludlow and there aren't really any shops any nearer so a car would be necessary I think. There are a few nice pubs about 2 miles up the road, serving lovely food.
The owner really has thought about every little detail and was very welcoming when we arrived (even helped us surprise my mum for her 70th birthday - thank you Gill).
We had a fantastic time at this cottage, the only negative being that we didn't stay longer. 😀
Fantastic property with everything you could possibly need including home made scones and jam. Attention to detail excellent which made it home from home. Plenty of literature with things to do and games and DVDs an added bonus.
We were met with a warm welcome and a lovingly furbished property. The detail of provision was the best we have ever encountered. The children loved playing in the enclosed orchard and there were so many books, toys and games to interest them (5 &17 months).
The property is set in beautiful countryside within easy reach of Ludlow and many attractions. A walk in the Mortimer Forest is not to be missed.
We would certainly recommend the property.
We stayed for 3 nights in June and absolutely loved this cottage. Each room was decorated beautifully and it was obvious a lot of time had been spent on the whole place. The kitchen was really well stocked and we were left with lovely cakes. There was a lovely garden area for when the weather was nice. It is very isolated so I suggest if you wanted a taxi you book way way in advance as they local firms were booked up. In short this was probably one of the best properties we've ever stayed in and I would happily recommend to anyone.
The Old Granary is a beautiful property with fantastic grounds & views all around. We live 90 minutes away North of Ludlow & our friends 90 minutes south of Ludlow, with such logistics in mind Gill, the owner very kindly recommended somewhere local for us all to meet at lunchtime before the 4pm "check in time". The pub / restaurant was perfect for our 3 & 5 year olds to run off some energy after the car journey but even better Gill contacted us to say everywhere was ready for us long before 4pm.
Bob & daughter Amy met us on arrival & showed us around. There was the most lovely fruit cake & homemade scones, jam with cream & a bottle of raspberry lemonade for us.
Gill had asked how we wanted the beds made up (twin or double) & knowing the layout of her house came up with a really helpful suggestion taking into account the children before our arrival.
There was so many books, Lego , building blocks etc that I don't know why i packed any toys. There was also a great number of DVDs for children & adults.
Wifi was perfect & the TV had a lot of channels - I'm not sure if it was Sky but certainly there was everything you could want.
Also a lovely log burner which being August we didn't need but logs were supplied & there was more available.
The big bedrooms are all beautifully decorated in a neutral very relaxed way. The beds were huge & so so comfortable.
All bathrooms/en-suites were again perfectly decorated, loads of perfectly laundered towels & products like soap/body lotion etc provided. The showers were fast jet & both those & the bath had plenty of hot water.
The kitchen is huge & really well equipped for any cooking requirements & there is a dish washer & washing machine.
The large garden was lovely & there is also another room with table tennis which provided us with a lot of fun.
Weather wise we had one lovely day so went into Ludlow to explore the town & castle- Aldi & Tesco's there also came in handy. The weather the next day was so awful we barely ventured out but there was so much space & entertainment in the house that the children ( & therefore the parents) were happy.
This house has enough luxury to make the grown ups smile & enjoy the treat but at the same time it is relaxed enough to let the kids enjoy themselves to. Having stayed in so many places this ranks very very highly. I would seriously load up the car with food & drinks & cosy in for a lovely relaxing time in a beautiful part of the uk as soon as possible.
The Old Granary is a fabulous place to stay - beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and equipped. Incredibly comfortable, perfect for small children (with toys, books, cot, stair gates and a wonderful, safe garden) and great for adults too (luxurious bedrooms, lovely towels, excellent quality kitchenware and cosy log burner). We were made to feel very welcome with a delicious homemade cream tea on arrival. Also a great position: a short drive from Ludlow and nearby buggy-friendly forest walks and picnic spots. Cannot recommend too highly - thank you!
