Gran Paradiso is located on the top floor, with panoramic views along the Chamonix Valley. Bedrooms can be made up as twins or doubles and all will fit a travel cot. Gran Paradiso can be rented together with Stac Pollaidh to provide 7 double bedrooms for a larger group of family or friends. Gran Paradiso can also be rented as a 3-bedroom apartment.
These delightful apartments are situated in Les Praz, a small peaceful village a 15-20 minute walk (or short train or bus ride) from Chamonix town centre, which has good transport links to other parts of the valley. The apartments are fully equipped for a relaxing holiday and adjoin the Hotel Eden, which has a good restaurant and bar. Offered on a self-catering basis, the apartments can be rented for weekly or short-stays. Both modern and well furnished for a comfortable stay, with lovely views over the Chamonix Valley, each has: living/dining area, fully equipped kitchen, large bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV and DVD, Wi-Fi Internet, balconies, and undercover parking. We are two friends who live in England (respectively in Sussex and Devon) who have known each other and worked together for almost 20 years and own adjoining apartments in Chamonix. We and our families all love the outdoors - particularly the mountains - and have numerous dogs, horses and other animals between us.
Maggie purchased this apartment in 2005
Chamonix is a unique mountain resort - not only because it stands beneath Mont Blanc. It is equally busy and enjoyable in Summer and Winter with outdoor activities suited for all ages and abilities, and places to relax, eat or shop in abundance.
Barely an hour from Geneva it is extremely accessible, while the variety of other resorts, towns and mountain areas that are themselves within an hour of Chamonix are too many to mention here. It is easy to find yourself in France, Italy and Switzerland all in the same day.
The quiet village of Les Praz is right next to the golf course and the Flegere lift. It is a pleasant 20 minute walk into Chamonix centre or a matter of minutes on the free train and bus services.
The properties enjoy the benefits of being in Les Praz which has its own shops and good restaurants as well as access to the skiing, golf and other outdoor activities - all still just a few minutes from Chamonix centre.
The two properties can be rented together or individually - meaning that they can accommodate larger groups with plenty of space for everyone. The rooms are all very well sized and with good facilities in each apartment.
Coming back to Chamonix, whether in the ski season or in Summer is truly like coming home.
The Gran Paradiso is perfect for a ski holiday in Chamonix or surrounding area. It is clean and has all a family or group would need on a holiday. It's a short walk to Flegere ski lift, a great walk along the river into the town center, and is very close to the Chamonix bus and train stops. (You can hear the train as it runs immediately near the property - but it's only twice an hour and is not bad but you can hear it....it helped us know the time as it passed 12 and 52 minutes past each hour). The views really are wonderful and the wrap-around balcony was a bonus when we wanted to enjoy the views and fresh air.
Additionally, Maggie was great - she answered all my questions quickly and fully, providing information and working with us when we inadvertently made the bank transfer in the wrong currency (oops). We are most grateful to Alex, the property manager, who met us upon arrival (used the AlpyBus shuttle from Geneva airport - dropped off just in front of the building). Early in our stay, my youngest son and I both had ski accidents requiring a short stay at the hospital (30 KM away). [We both experienced being rescued off the slope, an ambulance ride to the local hospital, then another ride to the larger hospital in Sollanches.] Everyone was very helpful - Ravanel, where we rented our ski equipment, took our equipment back early and reimbursed a portion of our rental fees. Alex made extra trips to meet and open the door for members of our party arriving after our accident - and made an extra trip to reset the wifi (located in a neighboring apartment) once we were out of the hospital and had to stay in the apartment. My son and I spent more time in this rental property than any other before and truly found it a wonderful stay.
My husband and two other sons were able to enjoy the trip fully - skied multiple lifts, visited the glacier, took the scenic train ride, enjoyed the Christmas market, shopped in town, and frequented the mom & pop store a few minutes walking distance from the apartment. I would point out that ski school and private instructor sign up is in the town center (vice at the ski lift where we purchased our lift tickets). Definitely recommend this apartment for anyone.
We had a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend and return.
We were a family of 8 adults and had a great time cooking our evening meals and playing games in the apartment after our days spent skiing. The apartment is well equipped and in a perfect position for the Flegere ski area and lift. The Chamonix bus stops 100 metres away and the attached Hotel Eden is excellent for good food. All facilities were available in the apartment. It was comfy, cosy and warm. Apart from one of the TV's in the bedrooms was not working but otherwise it was well equipped having everything that was documented. There was good customer service from the owners prior to flying and then on arrival at the apartment.
We will stay there again and have already recommended it to friends..
Well equipped apartment with all you need for a comfortable stay. Fantastic views from three different sides, which was great as we had blue skies for all but one day. The apartment was exactly as detailed in the description and was well-maintained. A little worried when we first arrived that is was next to a railway line but after the first day didn't notice it - no early or late trains. Nice to have UK television to catch up with the news. DVD player. When we experienced a problem with the Wi-fi Alex the representative was very quick to fix it. The apartment was an excellent base to explore the delights of the Chamonix valley.
The views from the apartment are quite stunning at all times of the day. We would recommend the apartment to stay in as a well-positioned base to explore the area. It is quiet and calm in the evening and time was spent on the balcony chatting and talking and taking in the view. The narrow gauge railway (the Mont Blanc Express) runs in the day below the apartment, usually about hourly with the stop approximately 100 yards away. It is a free (with the visitors card that comes with the rental), easy, and pleasant way to nip into town for visiting, shopping and pick up other travel connections up and down the valley. However if you have a car your options are increased, particularly in the mid to late evening. The SuperU supermarket in the town centre has a great array of produce and household items (it has a car park). The town has range of speciality shops from sports equipment, to gluten free and organic, and cafés.
The apartment was well maintained, well presented and very comfortable. The support from the owner’s local representative was very useful. WiFi is strictly within the apartment. All that was needed to prepare food was available. The restaurant at the neighbouring Eden hotel had a relaxed atmosphere, the food nicely presented and the staff were very accommodating for special requests. The Cabane restaurant at the nearby golf club is particularly good for a special meal.
For the second week of the visit the Cosmo Jazz festival was on, free concerts over the town and in the mountains which was great fun to sample. Also worth a visit, particularly if you have children is the St Bernard Dog Museum complete with live dogs and puppies, up the valley in Martigny, Switzerland, accessible by train and either a walk or taxi (we did both). In the same town is an elegant museum and art gallery (it had a fantastic Matisse focused exhibition when we visited) also with a sculpture garden. Well worth a visit.
Locally, the market on Saturdays is worth a visit (8am-12) for fresh produce and gifts-homeware. The local swimming pool is very good (again cheaper with the visitor’s card) flume, waterslide, fun pools, 25m indoor and 50m outdoor pool. There is an activity park not far from the terminus for the train with both adults and children enjoying particularly ‘The Luge’ run.
The main visits are up to the hills for glaciers and magnificent views. But it is a lovely place just to relax and have a mixture of culture, sport and easy living to hand.
