Cottage in Saint Benoit Nr. Limoux, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Quiet Village Location, Central For All The Attractions And Opportunities Of The Region
Situated Southwest of Carcassonne, between Limoux & Chalabre on the Aude/Ariege border, Chemin Cottage forms part of an old farmhouse property, occupied by the owners, on the edge of the sleepy medieval village of Saint Benoit. With views of the beautiful 13th century church and local rolling hillsides, the tranquil location affords easy access to Lac Montbel, the Cathar Castles, the Mediterranean coast together with the many and varied vineyards, monasteries and other attractions of the Languedoc. The gite is an ideal central location for relaxation, walking, cycling, horse riding and water activities or for just exploring the rich historical culture of the region.

Guestbook comments from the owner
“We enjoyed the peace, the village lifestyle and the memorable site-seeing. The Gite is ideally situated for visiting the historic Cathar region yet so comfortable, that we were content to relax within its cool walls and sun dappled gardens for much of our stay! Chemin Cottage provided us with all home comforts for self catering, including eating 'al fresco'. Paul and Briget have ensured everything for a comfortable and relaxing holiday is available and their knowledge and love of the region are readily extended to all their guests”. Ann & Mike C

We'd not been to this area of France before and it was a very pleasant surprise to be faced with so much choice of walking in such beautiful countryside. Our hosts Paul & Bridget made our stay extra special as they provided us with a very warm welcome providing some very helpful information about the local area and a bonus was the excellent broadband connection. We were also able to help ourselves to fresh vegetables from the vegetable patch a delicious addition to our evening meals. We would recommend staying here to anyone and well worth a second visit to continue exploring this beautiful region.
Wonderful, serene stay
What a wonderfully relaxing holiday we had. The gite was a wonderful space, and easily accommodated the 5 ladies in my party. It had a very well equipped kitchen and excellent dining space inside, as well as a wonderful alfresco dining area outside. The outside space was very peaceful and secluded, and a great place to relax with a good book.
The property was also excellently situated to do some exploring of the amazing Cathar sites in the local area. I would highly a trip to Carcasonne to explore the city as well as several other chateuxs such as roquefixade and puivert which are very easily accessible. Paul and Briget were excellent hosts and were always happy to share their extensive knowledge of the local area.
This is also an ideal location to be a little more active. We managed to fit in some climbing, walking, and swimming in a local lake as well as exploring the local towns of limoux (with some great wine tasting) and mirapoix; both well worth a visit with great local markets.
Overall a fantastic holiday with a great mix of serene surroundings for relaxation with great local attractions and amenities... well worth a visit, we will be back!

Lovely Place To Visit
Well what a lovely little spot this is! We came for a girly week to enjoy a relaxing holiday and thats exactly what we got. Chemin Cottage was perfect for us, great open space with good facilities to cook and do as we pleased. There is also an outside eating area and grassy space which was a perfect place to relax with a glass of local wine.
Chemin Cottage is situated in a beautiful little village called Saint Benoit and is not far from some great places, including Limoux & Mirepoix where weekly markets take place and are well worth a visit. It is also situated near to some fantastic castles that are great places to spend the day exploring! The beautiful town of Carcasonne is also not to be missed.
I had a fantastic week, Briget & Paul were great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. I definitly recomend this beautiful cottage as a great place to stay and explore this wonderful area, and I am sure I will be back in the future :)
Lovely apartment in picturesque, quiet location
We were a group of girls looking for a holiday combining some relaxation with more adventurous activities and Chemin cottage definitely delivered everything we wanted. The location was great, in a beautiful French village deep in the heart of the best of the South West countryside. The apartment was spacious and peaceful whilst also having everything we needed in order to cater and entertain ourselves. There is lots of outside space where we could eat and enjoy a glass of wine on an evening. Any questions we had were easily answered by the excellent hosts Paul and Briget who were always very helpful.
We enjoyed walks, climbing and cycling close to the apartment and drove to a nearby lake to swim in a couple of times. We headed for day trips to visit markets and sightseeing in Mirepoix, Limoux and Carcasonne. The nearby town of Chalabre was also lovely to visit and has a couple of excellent boulangeries and shops.
All in all, an excellent base to explore this area of France, we would love to visit again. Thank you!
We came for a girly holiday (maybe ladies now we're in out late 20s) to spend some quality time together and enjoy the sights, wine and cheese of Southern France.
We had a delightful stay - the gite provided everything we needed for the week, was clean and very comfortable. This hidden gem is set in a beautiful, rural village and is fantastically private. The patio was great for alfresco dinning and the private garden was a nice place to enjoy glasses of local wine in the evening or sunbathing in the day.
We wanted to see sights and do some climbing during our stay. Briget and Paul have clearly extensively explored during their Summers in France. They were happy to make recommendations of the best things to stay and do. They were relaxed, welcoming hosts and it was nice to have them close by when we needed them but we were not overlooked when we didn't!)
Carcassonne, Foix and a beautiful lake are all a short drive away for lovely day trips. We enjoyed local markets in Limoux and Mirepoix. We also spent a day or two climbing and a day with a good book each in the sun!
I would certainly recommend a stay here to friends and family!
