Croft Corner at Croft House Sleeps 2 (1 bedroom)

Croft Corner has very special views to Skiddaw and to Latrigg. The newly fitted kitchen leads into the lounge/dining room. The kitchen includes an electric cooker with ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

There is a double bedroom and ensuite bathroom. It has a cottage style garden with water cascade - and a magnificent view of the summit of Skiddaw towering over Applethwaite village.

The view from the double bedroom is across fields to Latrigg which overlooks Keswick. The view from the lounge/dining room is out over the garden for Croft Corner and up towards Skiddaw.

Croft Corner has its own independent heating system. It has an adjacent small boiler room which provides storage and also space to dry clothes. A cot and high chair can be provided at no extra cost.

Croftside and Croft Corner both have magnificent views to Skiddaw and to Latrigg. In addition Croftside also has panoramic views to the Borrowdale and the northwestern fells. They are set surrounded by fields on the fringe of Applethwaite village just 1 mile away from Keswick and with easy access to other areas of the Lake District. There are fell walks from the door and three restaurants and health spa facilities within walking distance. There is on-site parking and wifi. Each property has its own garden.

We have been offering self catering holidays at Croft House since 1997. We have many returning guests - some guests book from year to year. We hope the spectacular views and peaceful locations of all of the properties will tempt you to visit Applethwaite and choose one of them as your holiday accommodation.

Why Jan Boniface chose Keswick & North Lakes

Applethwaite has a magnificent setting at the foot of Skiddaw and the views are spectacular. Croft House is just 1 mile away from the hustle and bustle of Keswick but all the facilities of the town are on hand when required. It is easy to get to other areas in the Lake District and there is a range of walking on hand - ridge walks, valley walks or gentle footpaths.

We take many self catering holidays ourselves - so we know what we would like to find in a holiday property and how we would like it to be presented.

Many guests very kindly comment on our attention to detail and on the little extras that we provide that made them feel welcome straightaway. They also enjoy the gardens and of course the spectacular views that Croftside and Croft Corner can provide.

Notes

Short Breaks
We offer short breaks from early November through to mid March - except in school holiday weeks. This website will show the rate for three night breaks during this time - which is 70% of the weekly rate. However additional nights are just 10% of the weekly rate - which will be much lower than the indicated additional night rate. Currently this website cannot display correctly the price for 4 and 5 nights. Please just enquire!

We also offer short breaks at other times of the year - at short notice.


Changeover Day:
Between mid March and early November the usual start day is a Saturday. Outside of this period the start day is flexible. The usual access time is 4pm and the usual access time is 10am - though sometimes these can also be flexible.

We can provide a travel cot and high chair in both Croftside and Croft Corner and stairgates in the former.

Notes on accommodation: Croftside and Croft Corner are VisitBritain 4 stars. In addition Croftside has a VisitBritain Gold Award. Both properties have wifi and towels are provided. There is a separate, shared laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer - and plenty of space to dry wet walking gear. Lockable cycle storage is also available. There is parking for both properties in a separate car park. Outside: Both Croftside and Croft Corner each have their own garden with BBQ and garden furniture - and views! The garden for Croftside can be enclosed. In addition there is another shared garden area with space for children to play ball games. There is a swimming pool in Keswick - just a few minutes drive away. This has a wave machine, water slide and a graded "beach" area - which is ideal for young children.

A good stay in a beautiful house in a nice area

We 've stayed in Croft Corner for 6 days. We are very satisfied with our stay here. The house is very well equiped, really everything is there, even a lot of information about the area. The setting of the house is beautiful with mountains all around.

Owner's Response: We were delighted that our guests had such a good time at Croft Corner over the New Year. They had journeyed from the Netherlands by ferry and train and made very effective use of the local bus network when they were here. Croft Corner is only one mile from Keswick and there are walks you can do direct from the door. There are also three restaurants and health spa facilities all within walking distance.

Perfect homely cottage in great location for hikes

We were very happy with our stay at Croft Corner.

The place had everything we needed and more. So cosy and warm. All conveniences thought of, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, welcome basics etc. All makes for a stress free holiday. Very peaceful and quiet. Perfect base for exploring hills, some by foot straight from the cottage and some only 5 minutes drive away. Croft Corner is a much nicer location to stay than in the centre of Keswick, we will never do that again now that we have stayed here.

The owners are so lovely and helpful and great at communcating before and during the stay

Would very much recomend to others, in fact we already have. Looking forward to staying again.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased to know that our guests had such a great week in Croft Corner. Many guests do indeed like to walk "from the door" - you can climb Skiddaw (by hard or easy routes!), Dodd, Latrigg and Lonscale Fell and there are many lower level footpaths. There is a wealth of walking routes to choose from in the Borrowdale valley just a few minutes drive away. We hope our guests will return to Croft Corner - we have some guests who have done so each year for over 15 years!

Delightful Cottage in Beautiful Setting

Just back from a week at the delightful Croft Corner and must say we couldn't have chosen a more lovely cottage. It is ideal for a couple and has 4 separate rooms. A cosy kitchen, complete with all mod cons, including a dishwasher (tablets provided) and counter top larder freezer. A lounge cum dining room with views across to the flank of Skiddaw. A very comfortable bedroom with lots of storage space and finally a roomy bathroom with over bath shower.

The cottage came complete with basic condiments in the kitchen and toiletries in the bathroom. There was also a welcome pack of milk in the fridge and a packet of biscuits to munch on whilst reading the complementary local newspaper. There is also the use of the washing machine and dryer located in an adjoining building.

There were many brochures and a large folder containing suggested walks. A complete edition of the Wainwright books and a laminated OS map of the area made sure we returned each night thoroughly exhausted.

The cottage is part of the large house which comprises Croft Side above and the owners accommodation at the far end. The fact that there were other people above us never once caused us a problem, as Croft Corner is completely self contained with it's own entrance and garden.

Jan and David who own the properties were just lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. They were never intrusive, but it was reassuring to know they were they if we needed anything.

We would not hesitate to recommend this property and for sure we will be back.

Owner's Response: We are really pleased our guests enjoyed their stay. We always like to welcome our guests to the properties whenever we can - and then to be on hand if required but not to intrude. Croft Corner has many return guests who book from year to year. It is also suitable for guests who prefer no steps as the accommodation is all on the ground floor and it is a level access from the car park.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The sandy and pebbly beach at St Bees makes a good destination - about an hour's drive. There are good views of the headland and it is the start of the Wainwright Coast to Coast long distance walk.

Young children also enjoy the pebbly beaches on the side of Derwentwater which are just a few minutes drive away!

Travel:

The nearest train station is at Penrith which is 18 miles away - there is a frequent bus service to Keswick. The nearest airports are Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne - all about 2 hours drive. You can hire a car in Penrith or in Keswick. There is a network of local bus services which access the various valleys around Keswick as well as the nearby towns. Many of our guests like to leave their car at the property and walk into Keswick to access these local bus services.

Distances:

Croftside and Croft Corner are on the edge of Applethwaite village. Keswick is just 1 mile away. Ambleside is 18 miles away and Cockermouth is 12 miles distant. There are several National Trust properties nearby including the Wordsworth House in Cockermouth, Dove Cottage in Grasmere, Allen Bank - also in Grasmere and Wray Castle on the shores of Windermere.

Further Details:

There are fell walks from the door of each property. Easy and difficult routes are available ranging from low level footpaths to high ridge walks! Skiddaw at 3000ft towers over the village of Applethwaite.

There are three restaurants and the health spa facilities at Oxleys at Underscar all within walking distance. Keswick has a wealth of other eating places and also has a characterful cinema and the renowned Theatre by the Lake. there is a busy market in the town on Saturdays and most Thursdays. Keswick is known as the "Adventure Capital of England" - you can try many "adrenaline" sports locally - or more restful activities. The Lake District has many literary connections - to Wordsworth and Coleridge in particular and of course Beatrix Potter.
