The house is on three floors, a sitting room with log burning stove, wifi. In summer the enclosed garden with small wildlife pond is full of flowers with an eating area and BBQ. Ideal for a any age of family holiday, with all facilities including a bread maker! The house is comfortably furnished with antiques and contemporary art.

Hidden in the heart of a village, close to pubs and wild life reserve. Perfect for her hobby of carriage driving.

One hour to Edinburgh and only Three and a half hours to train station and London, even getting to Paris by Eurostar for dinner!

The beaches are great too, as is golf and diving.

Notes on accommodation: There is a drying cupboard in the downstairs bedroom, sports equipment can be dried in the garage/stable Outside: Lovely enclosed and secluded courtyard garden, with small wildlife pond. Entirely safe for a small children and dog. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is included, and towels are an extra. The house is fully serviced every week or on a new rental period. Other: Traditional comfortable country style, spacious and well furnished.

Warm comfortable house. Very quirky and homely.

Very comfortable, beds comfortable except for single beds downstairs which were very soft. Kitchen well equipped, bathrooms and showers good. Very quiet and secluded good to have secure offstreet parking.

Owner's Response: Glad you found almost all the Secret House facilities pleasing, I was most appreciative of the immaculate way the house was left. I will do something about single beds being firmer!

Beautiful & spacious house, Parking spaces for 2-3 cars, caring owner

We stayed here with 2 families including kids. We had a great time. Price is very reasonable as compare to others. Co-operative store and pub are very close to this house.I would highly recommend.

A beautiful home tucked away in a beautiful town. All enjoyed their stay.

Had a wonderful week here. Duns a fab place, accessible for all, friendly warm people, All felt very relaxed here as if they were at home using all facilities, strolling out to shops, pub, ice cream parlour and tea/coffee shops. Would recommend to friends and may go again.

Quirky yet comfortable, central but private.

Very comfortable house in a hideaway position but literally two minutes from shops and pubs. There is an enclosed garden which was perfect for dogs with lots of walks nearby. Anne made us feel very welcome and responded to queries quickly from start to finish. I would go back to duns as it was perfect for a new year break

Superb cosy house in great location

We arrived just before Christmas, and were exceptionally happy with both the location and the property. The very friendly owner dropped in and explained how to use the facilities. Dun's is a quaint little town with enough shopping facilities and eating opportunities to satisfy most without going further afield. Of note, the butchers is very good.

It takes very little time to drive to Berwick-upon-Tweed and then take a train to Edinburgh (45 mins). Or when visiting relations outside Edinburgh it took about an hour and ten minutes to get to the outskirts of Edinburgh. To be honest Duns is a perfect locale to travel all over the lowlands of Scotland.

The town house itself has not only a great locked and secluded parking area, but is very quiet. You enter the house generally from the rear going through the enclosed courtyard. Which we could see would look wonderful in spring or summer. There is also another entrance from the street. But we didn't use it. The ground floor houses a lovely very well stocked kitchen, which we generally ate in. Then there is a main living/family room on the first floor and more bedrooms upstairs. The house is furnished in a wonderful eclectic and artistic vein. The whole house feels very welcoming and personal. Other things, the heating is excellent, there is even a wood burning fire in the family room which we didn't use. The wifi is good, the tv reception is good and the bedrooms are all very comfortable. I would heartily recommend the property and would visit again.

If you would like a cookery course, the owner had a cooking school in Paris, and is delighted to organize tailor-made lessons, where all guests can dine.

Anne also has Shetland ponies, which can be ridden or carriage driven. If you would like to go on a picnic, or organize another special occasion, that can be done.


Beaches are twenty to thirty minutes by car. St Abbs Head is a special National Trust reserve, where you can also dive. Fishing trips can be organized from Coldingham. Berwick Swans can be seen at Tweedmouth. The Farne islands and the Bass Rock have wonderful trips for bird watchers.


Edinburgh and Newcastle airports are almost equidistant, roughly 1 1/2 drive. Berwick-upon-Tweed has a very good East Coast train service, and there is a connecting bus service to Duns. Car hire is available from all these destinations.


Edinburgh is 43 miles, Kelso is 18 miles, Berwick is 18 miles. There are lots of historic houses, including Manderston, Mellerstain, Abbotsford all within thirty minutes drive.

Further Details:

Duns Market Square has a Fish n Fine foods, a game dealer, banks, chemist, a couple of bistros, lots of charming boutiques. There are five very ancient pubs in the village, some of them as hidden as the Secret House.
