About the property

Wigford Farmhouse and The Chalet both provide relaxing bases for the perfect beach holiday. They are booked separately, and some bigger groups like to book both. (NB Chalet photos are after farmhouse photos: keep scrolling for these, and the interiors all have a written description under the photo so that you can tell what's what. You may have to scroll down to see the description.) Each has its own private garden as well as use of the large shared play areas and large games barn.

15 minutes drive from surfing/barbecue/family beach at Bantham. Half hour to 'cool' Totnes. 15 minutes from Dartmoor. Close to Salcombe and Dartmouth. Walks to the River Avon start outside the door. You can even plan your walk along the river to end with a delicious lunch or home-made cream tea at local family-run garden centre. South Devon is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The South West Coast Path is just 15 minutes from Wigford and Dartmoor is a mere 15 minutes in the other direction: every day of your holiday the choice is yours!

The market town of Kingsbridge is five miles down the road, with great local food shops and a leisure centre. The immediate locality of Loddiswell boasts a pub and two shops, including a very helpful post office, a fabulous local butcher, a garden centre with a cafe selling cakes to die for and a chilli farm with cafe and shop.

If you require a supermarket grocery delivery Tesco and Waitrose do one. Sainsbury's also deliver locally.

About Anthony Johnson

Wigford Farm is in the most amazing location. Now that my children have mostly left home it's a joy to share it with holiday-makers throughout the year. Deep in the countryside and yet only a 15 minute drive to some of the most stunning beaches in the country; we can hardly believe our luck.

What makes this cottage unique

We delight in telling people how they can walk out of the front gate and follow a fairy tale path through woodland to be at the River Avon at Topsham Bridge in 10 minutes. If you've never seen a Devon river, this is something else... from sparse and clear in the summer, to a raging torrent if it's been wet for long, The Avon is ever changing; reflecting nature in her changes by the day.

On a clear night we're still amazed by the number of stars you can see...

Guestbook comments from the owner

“Pretty close to Paradise. An Enid Blyton idyll for the kids, with the tree house and trampoline. Loved the house, nothing wanted, and Ant a great recommender of beaches.

Birdsong, Babbling Brook, Blue Skies. Wonderful.”

“The three families all had a fab time. We enjoyed Salcombe and the foot paths. We came across the peacock on the walk! We visited the chilli farm, and the kids loved all the toys and the outdoor space. Facilities were excellent, and we’ll recommend family and friends!”

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Wigford Farm is in a great location, in a quiet valley and the farmhouse is lovely, warm and comfortable. It was very clean and well-equipped and the owner was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed walking from the farm and exploring the immediate area as well as driving to Bigbury on Sea for a stunning coastal walk. We had a wonderful weekend and would have loved to stay longer.

Fantastic property, flexible layout, well equipped

  • 5 of 5

We used the farmhouse and chalet as a base for the extended family attending our son's wedding to a local girl. Our party of 14 ranged from six months old to nearly 70, and all needs were catered for. The play equipment and games room were great for kids of all ages. Ant was the perfect host, most knowledgeable on the best beaches and restaurants. and most flexible with people arriving different days and staying for different periods. Cornelia's communication and organisation is impeccable. The house was spotlessly clean and the chalet was just a delight for young couple with babies - keeps the noise down for the oldies! Don't miss Totnes - a delightful 'alternative' shopping and dining day out.

Lovely house with lots of space for a large party

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 9 adults and 3 children staying over the New Year period and the house was spot on for all of our requirements. The bedrooms had a good mix of doubles and triples and there were en suite bathrooms as well as large main bathrooms. The kitchen table was brilliant for us, especially with the lazy susan in the middle and the aga kept us very warm! The front room also had plenty of space for us to gather together and play games even with all the kids about.

Unfortunately as it was winter we didn't get to enjoy the large gardens as much as we would have liked. Might have to plan a return trip when the weather is better!

There was plenty of space to park the four cars we had with us, I'm sure we could have squeezed in one or two more if needed.

The Chilli Farm at the top of the hill has a great cafe and shop, just beware the free chocolate with your tea/coffee. Maybe take little bites!

Overall we had a great time and Ant was a great host, thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. I'm so glad you had a great time. We always feel that contented guests are what it's all about, and we're delighted when people enjoy the house and what it has to offer. You're right about the garden: it's great fun in the summer, and at least you have the games room in winter, so you can burn off excess energy with a spirited game of table tennis! We look forward to welcoming you back one day.

A great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Booked for my family brother, sister, nephew and nieces. We were all made to feel at home straight away ant. The farmhouse was fully equipped and we could fit 12 people around the wonderful kitchen table. The location is perfect for seeing Devon and we all enjoyed the games room especially the table tennis . My 2 year old nephew loved the brio and the toys in the farmhouse. Everyone had a great time and we will be going back next year.

Fantastic funky farmhouse weekend

  • 5 of 5

This property was just perfect for our family group of 6 adults and 5 children (aged 5 up to 10). Lovely to have a proper bedroom for everyone (rather than having to draw straws for who gets the sofa bed!). Loved the design in the property too especially the little reading gallery with fantastic views. Our group of girls loved the outside space and games room. The only downside is that we only were able to stay for two days. Nearby we can heartily recommend the beach at Bigbury on Sea, the farm shop for BBQ meat and the fantastic South Devon Chilli Farm

A lovely Christmas at Wigford

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the farmhouse, 2 families with 5 children ranging from 3yrs-9 yrs. a perfect size for the 9 of us, lots of room for everyone to run around. The farm is well presented without being too precious, a necessity with young kids. A lovely Aga in the kitchen and a table big enough for us all to eat at together. A great garden with beautiful views in the countryside. There was a trampoline (no safety net) and tree house- the kids loved it but had to be supervised on it! The games room with table tennis and table football was brilliant for my 9 year old son.

The surrounding area has lots to offer with some nice beaches and salcombe and Torquay nearby.

Ant is a really nice man who was very helpful. He even put a Christmas tree up for us. Would definitely recommend Wigford Farm and we are hoping to come back soon.
