Santon Cottage is a Grade Two traditional Lakeland stone terraced cottage dating from 1850, located three minutes walk from Windermere train station and close to the village centre and its many amenities. It is situated in a very quiet secluded position. Our cottage sleeps six comfortably, and consists of three bedrooms, a bathroom and a cosy lounge, with a log burning stove. The dining kitchen has a stone-flagged floor and is well equipped. As well as BT Infinity Wifi, there is a good selection of DVDs, books and board games to help you unwind after a day exploring the Lakes or walking in the hills. To the rear of the cottage is a small enclosed courtyard with a patio table and chairs. At the front is a small garden with a bench. Dogs are welcome.

Wonderful holiday at Santon Cottage

Our family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 14, 11 and 9 and Charlie the dog have just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at Santon Cottage. We were totally blessed with the weather, it only rained on two days!!!!

The cottage is in a great location in Windermere just a short walk from shops including a Booths, Co-op, Sainsburys local and WHSmiths, bars, chip shops, take aways and restaurants. The bus station and railway station are a few minutes walk away and were perfectly placed for us as we don't drive. We arrived by train and travelled most days via the wonderful bus service.

We managed to venture to Keswick, Grasmere, Brockhole, Ambleside, Fell Foot park and Hawkshead all via bus.

The cottage was perfect after a long day walking and exploring. We completed a few local walks including Orrest Head and School Knott tarn- stunning!! Easy walk down to Bowness too.

The cottage is clean, traditional, spacious and well equipped.

We enjoyed it so much we didn't want to leave and we can't wait to return.

Lovely cosy cottage, fab location, LOVED IT!

We stayed at Santon Cottage for a week in July, as a team of 5 + dog, myself, husband, son (14), daughter (8), granny (no age!) & Roly (dog!). The cottage is absolutely beautiful, so cosy and perfect for a quiet getaway to the Lakes - the photos do not do it justice, it is STUNNING! Huge bonus' are the fast wifi & lovely cosy yard - we had breakfast out there on more than one occasion!!

I had just returned after being out of the country for 9 months and this was a fantastic place to have a break with my family.

The area is lovely, lots to do, water sports nearby, shopping in Kendal, walks for dogs, Go Ape 30 min drive away, chill out areas all about the place, surrounded by other small towns, its FANTASTIC!

I grew up in the North but have never had a trip to the Lakes like this one - so relaxing and a great place to stay!

We will definitely be going back, it is a perfect retreat away from crazy every day life! All correspondence before our arrival was spot on, they were even kind enough to give an Armed Forces discount - very humbling for us.

Thank you so so much!! :-D We will be in touch again soon!!

Fantastc Place

We stayed at Stanton Cottage for 3 days, and would highly recommend to anyone. Perfect location for all the local attractions yet hidden away from the busy roads. The Cottage was clean and comfortable and has everything you would need to enjoy your stay. We will be back for sure.

Cosy & warm

A cosy and warm cottage, well appointed throughout and a pleasure to stay in. A logburner, well equipped kitchen, excellent wifi (no family arguments over someone hogging the bandwidth this time) and a good shower - something for everyone in fact. The location was convenient, even with the off site parking - we used the railway station car park which is about 100m away and paid £19 for the week, which with the Booths supermarket on the same site was convenient. Communication with the owners was rapid and always responsive. We would have no hesitation in renting this property again and as such are pleased to offer our recommendation to others.

Travel:

CAR:When approaching Windermere on the A591, pass the Windermere Hotel on the right and take the second left onto Elleray Road then next left onto High Street (one way system). The Lamplighters Hotel is on the corner. The cottage is on High Street Terrace which is behind the Lamplighters and next to the Back Packers Hostel. There is small lane by Simpson and Parsons. Go down the lane and through the wooden gate saying “Private High Street Terrace”. Cottage is the last of four, number 18.

Distances:

Windermere Train Station is a 2 minute walk.

Manchester airport is about 70 miles with direct train services to Windermere.

Lake Windermere is 1.25 miles / a 25 minute walk.

Ambleside is 4 miles.

Kendal is 9 miles.

All of the many amenities (shops, restaurants, pubs, banks, parks, library, etc) are within easy walking distance.

Three screen cinema is 1 mile away.

Further Details:

Windermere is an excellent base for exploring the Lakes and mountains by foot, car or public transport.

Changeover Day:
June, July, Aug & Sept are usually full weeks with a Saturday change over, but this can be flexible. Oct to April, 3 night weekend breaks and 4 night midweek breaks are available. Arrival times are 3pm and departure is 11am but again this is flexible.

  • Notes on accommodation: Pets are welcome. Non-smoking. Noise: We would expect you to consider our neighbours and limit noise levels at all times in this quiet friendly neighbourhood. Parking: In the small lane there is a temporary parking area to unload, and one hour free parking (9am to 6 pm) seven days a week, 10 metres away on High Street. Unlimited free parking is available: 2 minutes walk on College Rd (opposite foot of High St) 5 minutes walk on New Rd (past shops, by the library) 6 minutes walk on Ellerthwaite (next left after library) Bedroom Three is in the spacious basement accessed from the kitchen down stone steps. The ceiling height is 6’ 8”, although the original oak beam across the centre of the room, is 6’ 2”. There are two full size twin beds, a window, and plenty of storage space. Outside: At the rear of the property is a small enclosed, private courtyard covered in slate chippings and at the front there is a small garden. Utility Room: A washing machine/dryer is situated in the exterior drying room accessed from the courtyard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, towels, tea towels, cleaning (on changeover day), electric/gas are included(Not logs) Beds are made up, ready for guests on arrival. Cot and high chair are available at an extra cost. Special celebrations catered for at an extra cost.
