About the Owner

We are a family of 5 who have have recently renovated and extended our home and cottage. We love being outside and enjoy gardening. We have a small holding consisting of a variety of chickens, pigs, sheep and two ponies!!

I enjoy making jams, chutneys, cakes etc. Nick (my husband) has just bought a Smoker for fish and meat and has been experimenting with that!

Understandably, our friends call us Tom and Barbara!!

Lovely Spring break in a wonderful cottage

  • 4 of 5

We needed a cottage for a short break at the time of the Bath Half Marathon, in March. Hillary and Nick made us so welcome and we had a great time with them. The cottage is lovely and so convenient for Bath and Bristol, which were our main places to visit.

There is a good bus service at the end of the lane, to Swindon and to Chippenham. Castle Combe and Lacock are a short drive away.

We had some meals at Sally Pussey's pub, in Royal Wootton Bassett, which was excellent.

A lovely break, tucked away, yet so accessible from the M4 and other major routes!

Comfortable, private, pup-friendly, off the beaten track but close to everything you might want

  • 5 of 5

High quality, comfortable accommodation with lovely outlook and a feeling of privacy. We needed a bolt-hole for 3 nights only in the dead of winter - New Year's Day, as a matter of fact - and dog-friendly. Very helpful owners, willing to open up for us at short notice on this major holiday.Lots of good info about lovely pubs nearby. This was just the right choice, and exceeded all we needed. A real gem!

Quiet and peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We received a really warm welcome from Hillary and we felt instantly at home. The nest was comfy, cosy and well thought out. Everything you needed was there. The setting was peaceful and we really enjoyed sitting at the breakfast bar in the morning watching the deer grazing in the adjacent field. There were lovely country walks on the doorstep. At night it was wonderful to lie in bed and stargaze through the velux windows. Just a lovely break and we left reluctantly, but refreshed and recharged. Well done Hillary and Nick. Spot on.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Hilary and Nick are the most wonderful hosts, making you feel like part of their family from the moment you arrive. The cottage is finished to the highest standards and so well thought out. The kitchen provides full cooking facilities, there’s even a slow cooker! The cottage is set in a tranquil setting with beautiful field views. Once you arrive, you will not want to leave.

From the Owner

We bought Burrington because of its location. We are situated down a very quiet lane surrounded by fields with a view of Tockenham wood, which has Tockenham Lake within it. You could hardly believe we're only 2 miles from Royal Wootton Bassett and therefore have easy access to the M4 - which makes Heron's Nest an easy to get to retreat!!
