Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

We moved to Chez Jabier, a tranquil hamlet in Central France in October 2005. Our dream to have a gite business here, 8.5years on our dream is finally a reality. It's been a long road getting here as we bought a house that needed renovating before we could start on anything else, every step has brought us closer to the dream. We are here now and it's all been worth it.

We hope that you will appreciate our fantastic piece of paradise as much as we do.

Quiet, tranquil, relaxing, ...........

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to spend our two week summer break. It was so quiet, time just flew by. The gite is a little gem, clean and welcoming and has everything and more that you may need during your stay. The owners, Ann and Tony were brilliant, on hand for anything we needed, yet giving us all the space we required. The gardens and pool are the big plus at the gite, very enclosed and private which is great when you have kids. Le Pal Zoo and Adventure Park is well worth a visit as are the local markets at Boussac and La Chatre.

Overall, we've had a superb holiday at the best gite we've stayed at in France. Many thanks to Ann and Tony for your hospitality and the use of your gite!

Highly recommended! We had a wonderfu stay at Gite du Lavande with our family.

A beautiful hideaway in tranquil surroundings, yet close to lots of family attractions.

The gite itself is charming, immaculayely clean, well maintained and has everything you could possibly need for your holiday, all provided to a really high standard.

Hosts Tony, Ann & Zoe are delightful, friendly and helpful, nothing is ever too much. They go that extra mile to ensure that the holiday is perfect.

We will definately be back!!!

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Gite Du Lavandre with our two children aged 7+4 in August 2014. After a long drive we were welcomed warmly by Tony, Ann and Zoe and there was even a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge for us.

The gite was beautiful, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It had been lovingly renovated by Tony and Ann and they really went out of their way to be thoughtful hosts i.e putting children's duvet covers on, pink butterflies for our daughter and a football cover on our son's bed - much to his delight. They had even put out a selection of toys, books and films that they thought our children would enjoy - they particularly liked the swingball. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Don't be put off by the fact that the gite is in their garden. They are very discreet- there if you need anything but they do not impose at all. The children loved to go out and see Zoe everyday when she was cleaning the pool - and she was lovely with them.

Our kids loved the pool and we had to tear them away from the gite and the garden. The lake at Sidiailles is a 15 minute drive away and great for swimming, relaxing and hiring boats. Again a popular place to visit with our children.

The gite is very rural and peaceful - time seems to stand still here. It is perfect for a relaxing holiday and worth the drive.

We were all sad to leave. This was Tony and Ann's first season and we wish them all the very best for the future.

Peace

  • 4 of 5

Living a hectic life - in the UK, it was wonderful to find ourselves in this unspoilt part of France. The family came out to greet us and provided a welcoming cold beer upon arrival (and a lovely bottle of wine in the fridge for later). They even provided extra items for the baby and when she was found with holly berries in her hand - they picked all the berries from the bush! The house is comfortable and well furnished and we even found they had purchased a gift for the baby. How kind and thoughtful they were! They were discreet and sensitive, we had a wonderful rest and would like to say thank you so much!

As yet, this is a relatively undiscovered part of France. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life. With Sunflower fields around every corner and sleepy villages along every lane. There are plenty of things to do in the area whether it be swimming at the local lakes complete with life guards, beaches, pedalos, canoeing and picnic areas, horse and llama riding or visiting the modern leisure centre in town with water slides, children's pools and outdoor pools. Walking and cycling are also very popular locally and the area has many well mapped walking trails.

Golfing is available at the nearby 4 star hotel/golf course. Access to the golf course with all the facilities offered by a 4 star hotel is within a 10 minute drive. The green fees are incredibly low for the quality of the course, and with an idilyic setting a brilliant setting for a round of golf.

The cottage offers views across the valley to the rolling hills and forests surrounding area, with a vast amount of Flora and Fauna in the immediate area and many birds, including birds of prey, deer and wild boar.

One of the most popular leisure activities at Chez Jabier is relaxing by the pool, enjoying a bottle of locally produced wine and watching the sun set across the valley.

If you are looking to buy a property in Central France this will be an excellent base with help and advice for you to find the necessary legal assistance.

Facilities

From the Owner

It is wonderful to sit with a glass of local wine when our daughter is in bed & watch swallows & bats swooping over the countryside whilst looking up into the sea of stars, there are no street lights here and therefore it's wonderful for star gazers.. We love the country walks just outside our door , here you stop the car for deer ,pheasant , boar and other wildlife that cross the road. In this part of France it is like the UK maybe 60-70 years ago , a time warp where life is at a relaxed pace. Walking & cycling is a delight in the virtually traffic free lanes & paths around Chez Jabier. Everything about living here is just perfect.
