'Sovereign Retreat' Terraced House with Parking In Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
House in Eastbourne, Sussex, England - Quiet Harbour Location On Bus Route to Eastbourne, Close To Restaurants, Shops, Harbour and Beach

This delightful property is in the lovely marina development at Sovereign Harbour yet only three miles from central Eastbourne. This house has been beautifully appointed newly for this season in a fun seaside theme. It is in an ideal position for walks around the marina watching the boats as they go in and out of the locks, or enjoying a meal or glass of wine at The Waterfront.

The development has an Asda, a multiplex cinema, a hairdresser, TK Maxx, Boots, Next, an ice cream parlour, a fish and chip takeway and other shops. It also has an Indian restaurant, a Thai, two Italians, two American diners, a Harvester, hairdresser and two bars. So have a tasty meal or a glass of wine while watching the boats come and go.

A short drive away by car, bus or Dotto train, or by foot for the more energetic, is Eastbourne town centre with its beach, shops, Victorian pier and theatres. Or why not venture into the lovely surrounding countryside? Take the children to Treasure Island or Fort Fun. Five minutes drive up the road is a Miniature Railway next to a public golf course. A twenty minute car drive away is Drusilla's Zoo with fun and entertainment for all the family.

Child free? Experience an open air opera at Glyndebourne or take a ramble on the lovely South Downs. Play golf or visit Virginia Woolf's last home. Why not take a walk along the Cuckoo Trail, a 14 mile nature trail along the now disused train track to Heathfield?

If you fancy relaxing on the beach there is central Eastbourne for a town beach or two miles east, Pevensey Bay for a quieter beach location. When you tire of the beach pop along to Pevensey and take a stroll around the Castle.

If it's entertainment you are after then look no further. Take a trip to the Theatre. You are spoilt for choice with The Congress, Devonshire Park Theatre, The Winter Garden and the Bandstand to choose from. They provide shows ranging from West End extravaganzas, to Gilbert and Sullivan, from opera to Birdsong. For the youngsters and young at heart there are tribute bands, Grease and Singing in the Rain. There is something for everyone.

You will never run out of things to do and see nearby this property.

About the Owner

This pretty little house is in a quiet location yet is only minutes away from the boats, restaurants and bars at Sovereign Harbour and just down the road from the seafront. We live on the Isle of Wight and bought this property last year as a base on the mainland near to our family. We have spent a great deal of time over the years in the Eastbourne area and, being sailors ourselves, especially love the Sovereign Harbour development. This property suited our requirements. It has been newly furnished in a seaside style, which makes it light and cheerful, putting you in the mood for a lovely stay.

My familly and I spent a really good time during our stay. The house is lovely, everything is provided to feel you like at home. Nothing is missing. In fact an ideal place. Better than we expected.

The house is within a walking distance of all shops, restaurants, beaches of Eastbourne. You don't need to get your car.

Above all, the owner gives you all information to make your holidays easier and pleasant with a nice gift upon arrival.

We hope coming back and strongly recommend the house for others.

Fabulous house

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous place, home from home with a holiday feel, we didn't want for anything, everything we wanted or needed was provided! I have stayed in a few places in Eastbourne and this was the best one, will only ever stay here again!! A stair gate was fitted at the top of the stairs for children, which I thought was very good and a few toys and games, which again I thought was very good. The house is very clean, presentable and in a great location with just a short walk to the marina. I'm so pleased we found this place and can't wait to return!! Thank you for having us! :)

Owner's Response: Am so pleased you had a good stay at our little house. The weather wasn't even great (well it was October) and you still loved it. I tried to think of everything when I put it together and maybe I did it right! My husband and I love it too when we get a chance of coming down. Look forward to having you back next year, hope you enjoy it as much then. Debbie

Esatbourne cottage

A very nice little accommodation very close to Eastbourne seafront ;

Pretty, clean, well-equipped and ideally located for sightseeing (Battle, Brighton, Canterbury and lots of lovely and interesting places are within a reasonably short distance).

In addition, the owner, Debbie, is thoughtful and very helpful.

I highly recommend this place!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We are really looking forward to getting there ourselves in September but it will probably be raining then! We love the Yacht Club (so if you have any sailing connections they will welcome you as guests) and the local bar called Seamoors as it is friendly - ps it also has all the sports channels, (not that I am interested) but it is a great bar. Not smart but comfy. We need to do some sightseeing of our own and for us it is definitly a romantic getaway. We love it and am so happy that others do too.

Enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as described, clean, well equipped and in a very quiet area, there was plenty of local interest literature with bus time tables, Wi-Fi and a welcoming bottle of 'bubbly' (very thoughtful).

Although we drove to Eastbourne the car stayed in the parking bay outside the house until the day of our reluctant departure.

A service bus into Eastbourne ran hourly from the bus stop a few minutes away and the 'Dotto' road train left from the same place, we found this an interesting journey along the seafront ending at Holywell Retreat.

The biggest mistake we made was visiting the Harvester restaurant on the evening of our arrival, England were playing a World Cup match, it was packed and very noisy, a second visit was much better. The Crumbles retail park is a short walk away and The Waterfront at Sovereign Harbour has restaurants and shops.

We would definitely recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your lovely review. I am pleased you had a lovely holiday. My only advice would be to avoid the Harvester during the World Cup and it does get busy during school holidays! It is great if you have children, but alternatives are Simply Italian and Pablo's both of which both do great food at a very reasonable price and cator for all ages. And round behind Asda there is a great American diner - 'Frankie and Benny's' which is also great fun. Hope you decide to visit us again. Regards Debbie

Cosy Eastbourne

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for one week in this lovely and cosy retreat in a very nice and quiet part of Eastbourne.

Contact with the owners is very pleasant and quick. We came from the Netherlands but the booking formalities were done very quickly. The owner also updated us before our arrival about some upcoming events in the harbour nearby. Very nice!

The welcome was very warm with a nice surprise in the fridge. Of course we enjoyed this very much. The property has a nice sailing theme throughout which totally fits the environment with the sea nearby. The house was very clean and tidy. And all needed basic utilities are present. The beds are very comfortable and all linen, blankets and towels are also provided.

The shopping can be done close by at the harbour or at the local shops. The ASDA (at the harbour) nearby is more complete in regards to the daily shopping’s (more choice in products).

From this location is it very easy to see all nearby tourists spots or go into town. We’ve done everything by car and went to places like Beachy head, Birling Gap, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Scotney Castle, Battle, Lewes, Brighton, Arundel, etc.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and if we come back to the UK we’ll have no doubt in booking this property again!

Location

From the Owner

We love this location as it is a stones throw away from boat-watching in the harbour with all its waterside restaurants and bars. It is also so handy for Eastbourne centre. Eastbourne can be a difficult place to park yet here we have a designated parking bay plus visitor's bays so a hassle free trip can be made to the town centre using the very regular bus or the fun Dotto train. We also love driving into the beautiful surrounding countryside to visit cultural or fun attractions nearby.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

It is only five minutes walk to the local beach. Eastbourne town beach with its lovely Victorian pier and beautiful gardens is about three miles to the west and Pevensey Bay is about two miles in the other direction by car or a short walk walk along the front. Pevensey Castle, which was a Roman Fort, is just beyond the beach. The Dotto train runs all summer until November along the sea front from the property to central Eastbourne with stops at Fort Fun and Treasure Island.

Travel:

Use of car is not essential as regular trains run into Eastbourne from where a bus can be caught to the end of the road. This is a trip of only three miles. Taxis are also available. Once at the property all amenities are within walking distance (ten minutes walk to shops and restaurants along harbour side paths). A lovely holiday can be spent within Sovereign Harbour itself but Eastbourne central is an easy bus ride and the bus also takes you to Seaford and Bexhill.

Distances:

If you wish to travel further afield Brighton is 24 miles away, Hastings is 17 miles and Seaford 12 miles. All these are characterful Edwardian/Victorian seaside resorts. Lewes is 20 miles away and Rodmell, the village where Virginia Woolf last lived is about 15 miles distant. Drusilla's zoo, Blackberry Farm, Treasure Island and Fort Fun for the children are all nearby. Herstmonceux Castle (11 miles away) and Michelham Priory (9 miles) are both great spots for a day out.

Further Details:

There is plenty to do for young and old in the Eastbourne area.

Don't forget Airbourne the famous International Eastbourne airshow which takes place 14-17 August this year (2014).

Asda has a cash machine and the local bars and restaurants take bank cards.

The Waterfront restaurants include: 'Ganges' (Indian), 'Pablo's' (Mediterranean), 'Simply Italian', 'Frankie and Benny's' (American grill), 'Thai Marina' a lovely Thai restaurant, 'The Chippy' (fish and chips to take away or go to Gringos to get the 'Chippy' food served in the restaurant, The Harvester, a pub which caters for children but also has wonderful views over the harbour to satisfy parents, Seamoors Bar (lunchtime fish menu), Gringos (American diner), Di Lieto's coffee lounge/ice cream parllour). Most of these have outside seating overlooking the marina. Upstairs is The Garden Bar (over 21s), 'Great Hairdressing', Inner Beauty. Over the road is a large medical centre. Pevensey Bay has the Castle Inn a traditional English pub with lovely bar food and Eastbourne centre has restaurants of all types.

The Harbour also offers boat trips which take passengers all around the development from the water for a very reasonable price. There are also fishing trips and longer journeys out to Sovereign Lighthouse.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Ideal quiet yet central location just off a bus route which goes down a no through road so little other traffic uses it. There are childproof closers on the cleaning cupboards and stair gates both up and down stairs. Outside: There is a sunny front garden which has a secluded area bounded by a hedge. It is not overlooked. With a table and folding chairs, a lovely little sunspot is created. An ideal place for a barbecue (provided) or a glass of bubbly. The sea is only a couple of hundred metres down the road or if you wish to swim in a swimming pool, The Sovereign Centre, (pool and gym), is about 10 minutes walk away towards Eastbourne. Utility Room: The outside cupboard contains the garden table and chairs. There is also a mop and bucket and broom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The beds will all be made up with crisp new sheets and duvet covers. At least two towels are provided per guest. For a two week holiday extra bed linen is available for the guest to change if required. Other: The dining area consists of a fold down butterfly table with four chairs. There is a seaside theme table cloth plus a more sophisticated cloth and mats for the cordon bleu evenings when you don't want to try one of the many restaurants nearby.
