About Helen & Carl Smith

We discovered this beautiful, peaceful and relaxed corner of rural France some years ago. We have spent time renovating our house and our gîtes as well as enjoying the relaxed lifestyle here. With the building work completed, we developed into a small smallholding and now have a thriving vegetable patch as well as chickens and pigs. We love it here and would love to share it with you.

French idyllic countryside at its best

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived on a hot summer's afternoon after a long journey from Germany we found everything just as described on the website - and better. The property is lovingly kept by Carl and Helen - you really feel their hearts are in it. At no time did we have the feeling that we were missing anything. And if we had a question or query at all, the two were always very helpful, but never overbearing.

One highlight on the grounds was definitely our own private pool (immaculately clean!!) with the most soothing view over rolling pastures. Just the right thing if you're looking for some peace of mind. But also the evenings in the barbecue area and on the cosy garden swing added to our comfort.

And if you ever felt you wanted a change of scene there were a great number of picturesque destinations less than an hour's drive away.

I would definitely recommend this property to any of my friends who want to get away from it all for a bit.

Absolutely lovely, quiet country retreat

  • 4 of 5

The husband and I have just returned from two weeks in France and 13 nights in Gîte Pigeonnier.

We had an absolutely lovely time, the pool was brilliant, the land surrounding the farm was beautiful and the gîte itself was spacious and well provided for.

The local area was equally beautiful and La Souterraine is a lovely place to explore with lots of excellent food shops - plus a huge Carrefour - very essential!

The nearby fishing lake is also recommended and we were lucky to be there the weekend of the annual fete - featuring 11.30pm fireworks! :-).

Tips:

- Azerables is tiny and we didn't see the boulangerie open at any point, don't bother going there for shopping, drive to La Souterraine. Pretty village however!

- Don't forget mosquito spray for the evenings!

- The farm bikes are really good to use for a bike round the lake.

A quiet, relaxing country location with views.

  • 5 of 5

On arrival my wife and I were greeted by the owners Helen and Carl. They gave us the grand tour of our gite and explained the workings of any appliances. They had left a welcome pack comprising of bread, wine, vegetables from their own plot and eggs from their chickens. The gite was spacious and clean .The accommodation definitely had the wow factor , stone walls oak beams and shuttered windows all added to the rural effect. Looking out from the windows or from your very own private patio area over rolling hills and wooded countryside let you know you where away from the stresses of life. so very relaxing. The pool area was excellent and very welcome on those very hot and sunny afternoons. This area of France is idyllic with its large markets, beautiful small towns and villages and good shopping. Our hosts Helen and Carl were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble for them. They should be very proud of what they have achieved at Limousin Gites. We would recommend this holiday location to both family and friends and will definitely return in the future.

Carole's review

  • 4 of 5

Our holiday lived up to all of our expectations. A beautifully restored house set in a little piece of paradise. Wonderful scenery, peace and quiet and the owners who were so helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this to those who want a quiet getaway but also great for those who want to explore the Limousine region.
