Guestbook comments from the owner

"Every year there are new changes that the family lovingly add to this incredible place but fundamentally what we love about about it is that it is simple and comfortable and harks back to a time of our childhoods. That doesn't mean that it doesn't have the luxury of mod cons, it does (Wifi, washing machine, tumble dryer, TV etc.) but it is an environment where you can all relax." (from tenants who have been coming for more than 10 years)

A Wonderful Home From Home

  • 5 of 5

This year is our third family trip to YellowSands and we already want to book for next year. As soon as we see the wonderful views we instantly relax and we spend nearly all our time on the beach or walking on the cliffs whatever the weather. The house is very comfortable, with everything you need, and we love its history and little quirks. I recently, under some duress, gave the details to a colleague of mine, as i really wanted to keep this absolute gem to ourselves, which says a lot! Yellow Sands will be part of our family history now for years to come.

Breath-taking views

  • 5 of 5

Yellow Sands is a lovely family home and we enjoyed our stay enormously.

The views from Yellow Sands far exceeded our expectations and we were fortunate enough to have warm and sunny days to sit in the garden and enjoy watching the sea and the beach.

The garden is lovely, well enclosed to make it safe for dogs and with a feeling of seclusion and very very quiet.

We really liked the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the house, full of character and a lovely step back in time, but still having the conveniences of a dishwasher, washing machine etc.

It was nice to be in such a quiet location but still only a short drive to Salcombe or Kingsbridge for a day out.

We hope very much to be able to return to Yellow Sands next year.

Owner's Response: Julie and Steve, Thank you so much for taking the time to send your lovely review. We are delighted that you both enjoyed your time there, and that Ben and Harry also found it to their liking. It is so difficult for photographs to really capture the views from Yellow Sands, or the special atmosphere of the house, but I think that your review has added so much to the advert and reflects our own experiences since childhood. It would be lovely to welcome you all back to Yellow Sands next year, we have a number of tenants who have been coming back year after year. Just a note of warning, book early, it is beginning to fill up already.

A special place

  • 5 of 5

We feel so lucky to have been able to stay at Yellowsands. It has such incredible views that you almost can't believe they are real. The house is very special, is full of character and is completely unforgettable. The beach and cliff top walks are absolutely stunning. It was genuinely hard to leave at the end of our stay and we really hope it was the first of many visits!

Activity and Interests

There are 5 beaches within the area. You can hire water sports equipment at South Milton Sands, which is a 15 minute drive away (or you can walk along the coast path). Going west is Leasfoot, next to the Golf Club, then Yarmer (in front of the house), and Broadsands, (reached via a steep cliff path). Bantham (a 20 min walk along the cliffs), is great for surfing. Not all the beaches are safe for swimming at all times, so check local conditions.

Use of car essential.

Exeter airport 60 minutes.

There are regular trains from Totnes (45 minutes drive) to Exeter, which links to the full national rail network.

The shop and Post Office in Thurlestone is an 8 minute walk along a private road. Kingsbridge (20 minutes drive) is the nearest town, with 2 large supermarkets and lots of useful shops. The pretty town of Salcombe is about a 20 minutes drive away, whilst Dartmouth, Dartmoor, Plymouth and Totnes are all about 45 minutes drive.

Further Details:

The Village Inn (8 minutes walk) has good pub food and there are pubs in all the local towns and villages. Thurlestone Hotel is good for a treat, and Kingsbridge has several places to eat, as well as takeaway restaurants which will deliver to Thurlestone. The Beach House at South Milton has good food but booking is advisable. Details of local places to visit can be found in the house, and you might want to consider Burgh Island, Overbecks Garden in Salcombe, Buckfast Abbey, Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, Paignton Zoo and the South Devon Railway.
