About the property

Studio Loft - I bedroom, Totally Rural, The Sea 3 miles, 10 mins walk to Military Canal

The Shed stands in the garden of the listed Old Oak, once the smuggling pub of Bonnington. The Shed has its own garden space, table and chairs and BBQ. Built in 2012 to the highest specifications and in traditional style it offers an ideal base for exploration. There is one bedroom with a king size bed, and a kitchen living room which is equipped with a dishwasher, cooker and fridge, TV and WiFi and prettily and individually designed for total comfort. Built for our far flung family to stay in when in England - we would love to share it with you when they are not with us! We love this special corner of England, and built the Shed to reflect its rural surroundings, and offer a cosy welcoming retreat. Sadly the Shed is not suitable for those with mobility problems as the only access is by the outside stairs, but it has proved to be a great base for artists, writers and those with a creative spirit.

About Tina Metcalfe

Jeremy and Tina Metcalfe have lived at the Old Oak for 40 years and look forward to sharing their love of Romney Marsh and the area with guests.

Tina Metcalfe purchased this barn in 1974

Why Tina Metcalfe chose Kent

There is something for everyone - churches from Canterbury cathedral to the little gems on the marsh; castles galore like Leeds, Bodiam and Dover with its wartime history; enchanting villages and small towns like Rye, Whitstable, Tenterden and Hythe; extraordinary Chatham Docks; the seaside just 3 miles away and Folkestone with its world famous Triennial Art Exhibition. A day trip to London or France is quite feasible with a return to your own cosy peaceful place to stay. It is 25 minutes to the Ashford International with Eurostar and fast link to London (37mins to St Pancras) and 20mins to the Eurotunnel. Golf is available at Littlestone and Rye etc. And for shoppers there is the famous McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Centre 2mins from Ashford Station with bargains for all!

What makes this barn unique

There are views over the pretty country garden across the sweeping fields of Romney Marsh. Our pub dates back to the 1740s with lots of local history we can share with you. The battle of Britain was fought in the skies above and the wonderful memorial museum is now open near Folkestone. There are delightful country and village pubs we can tell you all about! The Marsh has always been the artist's dream with its huge skies and luminous light.

A beautiful place and a wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in the shed. It's such a quirky, beautiful little place to stay! Everything you need and more! Every detail is thought out and everything had that little extra homely touch. The shed was spotlessly clean and wonderfully decorated! The private garden was lovely, beautiful flowers and such a lovely view. This holiday was very relaxing and peaceful and we didn't want to leave! I would highly recommend the shed for it's something everyone should experience! Thanks again Tina and Jeremy!

Quirky and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at 'The Shed'. It is cosy, comfortable and unusual with lots of charming artistic touches and has beautiful views across the marsh. We went for some rest and relaxation and weren't disappointed. It was also lovely to meet Tina, Jeremy and the dogs.

Brilliant

Lovely home from home. Set in the countryside surrounded by fields but just a short distance from many Kent places of interest. The " Shed " is like no other we've seen before, light bright & airy with views from every window.

The owners have put a lot of thought into making your stay comfortable with just about everything you may need. Tina's own special touches are a real treat.

Beautiful setting, wonderful accommodation!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely weekend at the Shed, it had everything we needed. The views were wonderful and accommodation was so cosy and comfortable. Tina & Jeremy were wonderful hosts, so welcoming, it felt like we'd known them a long time. Tina very kindly made me a Birthday cake which was delicious and so thoughtful. We would love to go again and will recommend to everyone. Many Thanks! X

We had a very good time in a Kent county side visiting many places in good sunny weather. The shed is in a central position for visiting the local villages,Good pups locally for eating.

Beautiful retreat from the city

  • 5 of 5

The Shed is a wonderfully comfortable and peaceful place to stay. We came as a short break from the city and were given a warm welcome by Tina and Jeremy whose recommendations for local restaurants and activities added extra enjoyment to our trip. The Shed has panoramic views of Romney Marsh and was a cosy base from which to explore the area.
