Quinta Quatro Abelhas is a 5 bedroom Premier Villa. This hilltop country property is set in 9.5 Acres of land, has beautifully landscaped gardens, a large 11x6m heated swimming pool, its own tennis court and is surrounded by the beautiful Algarve countryside. The villa is exceptionally private and very peaceful. The villa is just outside the traditional Algarvean town of Messines in a small hamlet called Cortes. Just a 15 minute drive away is the famous town of Silves the ancient Moorish capital of the Algarve. Here you will find an excellent selection of restaurants, bars and shopping, with a sense of the region’s history to be found at the castle, the cathedral and the narrow winding streets. There are now three golf courses within a 10/15 minute drive of the property. The beaches are about a 25 minute drive. Quinta Quatro Abelhas is an ideal location for guests who wish to have a quiet relaxing holiday but at the same time be within close reach of the amenities.

About the Owner

My wife and I live in England but we had brought our children most years, for family holidays, to the Algarve. In 1987 we started to build what for us is a "home" rather than just a holiday villa and it was completed in 1989. I retired in 1994 but having people to visit us at Quatro Abelhas has proved to be the best possible way to keep up with friends and family

We also began in 1987 to create the large garden which has been a consuming passion ever since. It is a deliberate mixture of lawns and semi formal garden surrounded by wild areas showing off the natural beauty of the hillside. We have a substantial orchard area growing all types of citrus as well as peaches, nectarines, plums, avocados and other fruits.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The Algarve is well known for its numerous clean golden sandy beaches, the nearest to the villa being Gale/Albufeira, Armacao de Pera, Praia Grande and Castello beaches which are only a 20/25 minutes drive away.

Travel:

Faro airport is an approx 40 minute drive.

Some guests choose to fly to Lisbon which is approx. 3hrs drive.

Car is essential and together with the central location of the villa, is a great asset, allowing visitors to explore the whole Algarve - the Spanish border to the east, and coastline to the west are both approx 1-1.5 hour drive from the villa.

Distances:

Silves with its historical XII Century Castle and Cathedral, several excellent restaurants, shops and good supermarkets is within a 15mins drive.

Messines, a busy market town with some typical restaurants at a driving distance of 5mins.

There are several restaurants within a 5 mile radius.

Further Details:

Take a boat tour from the Albufeira marina, to view dolphins & caves or the catamaran day trips, from the Vilamoura marina that includes a beach sardine BBQ & a dip in the ocean. There are water sports on Falesia beach, 25 minutes away or Vilamoura. Family fun at the water parks (Lagoa Slide & Splash), Lagos zoo with monkey islands, Guia’s Zoomarine with an opportunity to swim with dolphins are all close by. Enjoy a wine tour at Sir Cliff Richard’s vineyards & a range of shops, eateries, 9 screen cinema & Nike outlet at the Guia Algarve shopping centre. Pottery shops are in Porches & Monchique. The Moorish town, Silves, has a castle, cistern well in the archaeological museum, a cathedral, the Cruz de Portugal & lots of shops & restaurants to enjoy. Rui's restaurant is known for seafood. The English Cafe near the castle has great views or try one of the riverside restaurants. Silves is the perfect setting for the annual Medieval Festival in August with its narrow, cobbled streets, medieval market, barbecues, spit roasts, strolling musicians & jugglers to entertain you. Alte, a typical attractive Portuguese village is nearby with picnic tables, BBQ facilities, cafe & restaurant at the Fonte Grande where you can to enjoy a swim in the lovely cool waters. Purchase linen, pottery & lavender oil at the handicraft shop. The largest Algarve waterfall is outside the town. In Caldas de Monchique, famous for its warm springs, you can enjoy lunch in the quiet square under tall shady trees. There is a pleasant walk in the forest along a stream. En route to Caldas de Monchique enjoy views on a clear day of the Algarve coast from the highest mountain, Foia, peak (902m) in Serra de Monchique.

  • Outside: The villa is situated within 9.5 acres of land comprising of beautiful formal gardens and a wild natural area which is a picture in the springtime. There are patios and terraces well equipped with tables, chairs, sun-loungers, brollies. There is an 11x6m swimming pool (which can be heated £125pw) with a pool house which has a fridge, sink and WC. There is a private Tennis court (equipment not supplied) and Table tennis, Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, ironing board, roller press Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and are changed weekly. There is a daily maid service (no cooking). Other: Dining room for more formal dining
